Yokogawa is the official sponsor of The West Cumbrian Institute of Measurement & Control (IMC) Section’s first ever exhibition and lecture series. The day’s theme, entitled “Lessons from Buncefield – Fuel Storage and Beyond” will be held on Thursday 18th April 2013, at the Energus Centre, Workington, Cumbria in the North West of England.
As well as a keynote lecture from Colin Howard, a consultant and expert witness who gave evidence at the criminal court in respect of the instrumentation and control aspect of the Buncefield Explosion, Yokogawa will be giving an instructive and informative talk on how safety systems can be used to avoid such tragedies in the future. Other lectures cover subjects such as process interfaces and measurement, alarm handling and CCTV applications, as well as how to make the most of the IMC membership.
In the evening at the Annual dinner, Yokogawa will again be sponsoring the prestigious ‘Graduate of the Year’ Award. Speaking about the sponsorship, Mark Halliwell, Business Development Manager for Yokogawa’s Nuclear Division says: “We are proud to support the IMC and especially encourage new engineering graduates. There is a shortage of skilled engineers in the UK and as a profession we need to encourage more youngsters to study and reward the best.”
