Simplified liquid analysis.

Speeds water quality measurement installation with configurable, pre-engineered designs.

The Rosemount™ 105P Standard Liquid Panel Systems, configurable liquid analysis panel systems designed to reduce project complexity for water quality measurement applications. The pre-engineered panel systems combine Rosemount transmitters, sensors, cables, flow cells and flow control components into a repeatable architecture, simplifying integration and supporting a more streamlined path from specification to start-up with less on-site assembly and labour.

Liquid analysis panel projects are often handled as one-off engineered systems or assembled from loose components, creating added ordering steps, site work and installation variability. The Rosemount 105P panel systems standardise common water quality measurement needs in a configurable system that supports a range of analytical measurements, including pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), dissolved oxygen and chlorine.

By combining Rosemount transmitters, sensors, cables, flow cells and flow control components into one ready-to-install system, the Rosemount 105P helps reduce the cost, time and effort required to specify, order, assemble and commission liquid analysis panels. Its configurable, pre-engineered design enables organisations to standardise deployments and replicate proven panel configurations across sites. Compared with assembling similar systems in the field, the Rosemount 105P can reduce engineering and assembly time by up to 90%, helping teams accelerate project execution while reducing complexity and installation variability.*

“Customers need liquid analysis systems that are easier to configure, order and put into service,” said Peyton Munoz, global product manager for liquid analysis at Emerson. “The Rosemount 105P panel systems give customers a standardised option between loose components and fully custom-engineered panels, helping them standardise common water quality applications while maintaining flexibility for their measurement needs.”

Factory assembly, testing and documentation help create a consistent sample environment that supports reliable measurement performance and reduces variability often associated with field-built systems. By minimising field fabrication, troubleshooting and maintenance complexity, the Rosemount 105P helps organisations significantly lower lifecycle costs while maintaining the water quality insights needed for process performance, compliance and operational efficiency.

* Based on Emerson internal estimates comparing engineering and assembly of repeat Rosemount 105P panel deployments with comparable field-built liquid analysis panel systems. Actual results may vary depending on application, configuration and site conditions.

Towards a universal measuring instrument.

Frequency is a crucial parameter for efficient level detection. Just how crucial, however, was surprising even to VEGA as a manufacturer of measurement technology.

Level (L) and Solid applications
80-GHz radar technology found market acceptance at a pace nobody had expected. It quickly replaced the previous 26-GHz technology standard in many areas. With more than 100,000 80-GHz radar instruments already sold, there is good reason to celebrate at the company headquarters.

80-GHz radar sensors can be used universally for the majority of industrial level applications. VEGAPULS 64 detects liquids with unwavering accuracy, even with condensate or buildup on the antenna. Since the sensor can also be equipped with the smallest antenna of its kind, there’s hardly a mounting location where it doesn't fit.

80-GHz sensors also set standards for applications with bulk solids. It doesn't matter if there’s a lot of dust in the air or material sticking to the sensor: VEGAPULS 69 has the performance reserves needed to reliably handle measuring situations like these.

The Deeter Group has introduced a new Low Volume Liquid Dispenser.  Intended for accurate, repeatable dosing of small volumes of chemicals, colours or flavourings. The Low Volume Liquid Dispenser may be used to control any liquid being dispensed in a laboratory or manufacturing process.

The new Low Volume Liquid Dispenser is designed to deliver a measured volume of liquid at the press of a button.  In normal use, the operator selects a volume, presses a button and the Dispenser delivers the required volume without further operator intervention.  The volume required is simple to set and the dose is retained in non-volatile memory for repeat operations. Volumes between 0.025 litres and 10 litres can be selected in increments of 0.001 litres.

The Dispenser will accurately measure volumes over a flow rate range of between 0.2 litres/minute and 2.5 litres/minute and will automatically compensate for the effects of varying flow-rates and changes in liquid temperature.  A calibration menu allows fine adjustments to the compensation.

The Low Volume Liquid Dispenser has two John Guest Speedfit® 8mm push-fit connectors for input and output of fluids.  Wetted surfaces are nylon, PTFE, Buna and acetyl, making the Low Volume Liquid Dispenser suitable for a wide range of fluids over a temperature range of +1 to +65ºC.  Operator controls consist of a three-button keypad and a liquid crystal display.  The display shows the selected volume and progress during dispensing.  A number of additional features are available through the keypad, including pause and restart during dispensing, cancelling dispensing, and manual ‘top-up’ control.

Peter Whiteaker, Managing Director of The Deeter Group comments; "We have over twenty years of experience in designing fluid dispensers and our new Low Volume Liquid Dispenser will be ideal for single users in laboratories to automated systems for low volume dosing.  This new design features temperature controlled accuracy and the convenience of having software provided for control and monitoring from a PC.”

The Dispenser has a serial communication option to enable automated control and monitoring by an external computer using the software provided.  Communication is via USB ‘A to B’ cable and the Low Volume Liquid Dispenser is powered by a low-voltage supply, making it safe to use in damp environments or if liquid is spilt.  A 12VDC mains socket adapter is supplied with each Dispenser.

An audible ‘beep’ option is provided to indicate when dispensing has stopped and a further option will produce continuous ‘beeps’ if the flow rate is outside of  the limits for accurate volume measurement.  These audio options can be enabled or disabled through a display menu and are also saved to non-volatile memory and are restored to the operator’s preference after power-up.

New applications for radar level transmitter

Siemens has launched the Sitrans LR250 radar level transmitter with a new threaded PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) antenna for liquid and slurry measurement. The antenna opens up new applications in extreme conditions for this non-contacting level transmitter.

The Sitrans LR250 threaded PVDF antenna is designed for extreme conditions characteristic of acids, alkalis, and other corrosive chemicals: some examples include sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, and sulfuric and hydrochloric acid applications. These applications are not suitable for stainless steel and usually require transmitters be made from exotic and costly materials. However, it is able to withstand such environments while remaining a cost-effective solution. It also uses FDA-compliant materials suitable for use in food and beverage, chemical, and water treatment applications.

The unit is a compact 25 GHz 2-wire transmitter for non-contacting level measurement of liquid or slurry materials for measurement ranges of up to 20 m (66 ft). It is available with Hart, Profibus PA, or Foundation Fieldbus protocols. With the graphical Quick Start Wizard the Sitrans LR250 is operational in minutes and the infrared handheld programmer supports local programming. Full function diagnostics comply with Namur NE 43 and the Sitrans LR250 has also achieved a SIL 2 functional safety declaration with Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) of 86%, making it suitable for use in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Key fields of application for the Sitrans LR250 include bulk liquid storage tanks, process vessels with agitators, vaporous liquids and low dielectric media.
