Agreement for LED panel lamp and indicator ranges.

Anglia Components has expanded its relationship with MARL International and been named Master Distributor for Britain and Ireland covering the full range of panel lamps, PCB mounting indicators and other standard LED components. As Master Distributor, Anglia will not only carry an extensive stock of standard devices for customers and for other resellers, but will also offer support for customers who require customised products.

MARL’s range of Rail Industry LEDs as well as Network Rail approved LED Bulkhead Units are also available from Anglia. It will hold a wide range of the most popular devices in stock for same-day shipment. The new range complements the established and extensive Anglia optoelectronics portfolio.

Space saving narrow connectors.

Cliff Electronics SLIMS FeedThrough Connector series have been expanded with the introduction of the new DualSLIMS range which allows customers to choose between mounting the connector adapters from the front of the panel which permits simple and fast changing of connectors in the field, or the rear which brings a lower profile flush appearance to the connectors when rack mounted or side by side

“The narrow form factor is widely used by audio, broadcast and communications manufacturers in the USA and becoming more popular in Britain and rest of Europe for maximising panel density and for products being exported to North America.” Comments John Hall, Managing Director of Cliff Electronics. “Our new DualSLIMS FeedThrough connectors will not only grow our component sales in the USA but will also be welcomed by other system builders selling their products to that market.”

The new DualSLIM connectors now offer panel builders and system integrators the ability to mount up to 20 connectors in a 1U, 19” rack panel. At just 19mm wide the SLIMS range offers a more compact alternative to Cliff’s very popular 26mm wide XLR form factor FeedThrough product range. Just 16 of the existing XLR design, can be mounted in a 19” rack panel.

The new DualSLIM FeedThrough connector range is available in a plastic frame with a plain or countersunk Ø2.5mm or Ø3.2mm fixing hole. A metal frame version is also available finished in nickel or black with Ø3.2mm plain or countersunk fixing holes or M3, #440 thread. Panel cut out dimensions are 17.15mm (0.675in) x 22.86mm (0.9in) with mounting hole centres of 29mm.

The DualSLIM connector range has been launched with 14 different versions: HDMI, USB3 A-A, USB3 B-A, USB2 B-A, USB2 A-A, USB2 A-B, USB-C F-M, Cat5e, Cat5e Shielded, Cat6, Cat6 Shielded, Cat3, Cat6A Shielded and blank plate. With a total number of 11 variants of each type, the total number of possible variants is 252.

With its high panel density and low profile if rear mounted the Cliff Electronics DualSLIM may be used in audio, broadcast, AV and communications installations, medical, education and research, industrial control and space. DualSLIM can also be designed in alongside 1U rack mounted NUC computers and mini-PCs, such as Raspberry Pi, for projects of every scale; from custom-tuned gaming machines to industrial applications and are ideal for space constrained embedded or IoT systems, digital signage, media production and video conferencing applications.

All of Cliff’s FeedThrough connectors allow standard, off the shelf, connecting cables to be used for internal connectivity, simplifying and speeding up system assembly and facilitating easy repurposing of equipment.

Panel labels.

TE Connectivity (TE) offers TTDS-245 thermal transfer printable adhesive backed panel labels. Their panel labels use high-performance adhesive foam to adhere to the surface making the need for rivets or bolts used for engraving obsolete. In addition to fewer components needed for installation, the engraving process can be noisy, dusty, and require special tooling to engrave the surface.

“The panel labels are an ideal alternative to metal or plastic engraving plates due to the lower material cost, ability to print on demand, and reduced installation time,” said Marco Ungano, TE field application engineer. “Adhesive-backed panel labels can be printed on-demand, anywhere using any TE thermal transfer printer. Printing on demand saves production time, allowing faster installation time for less money.”

TE’s panel labels are die-cut pieces on a liner in a roll format offered in standard colors of white and silver. Custom colors and shapes are available. Typical applications are industrial control panels, data racks, switchgear and general Industrial equipment labeling.

“We’re finding that even for customer applications in the harshest of environments, TE’s carefully selected adhesive used on our panel labels, allows for replacement of traditional metal and plastic engraving plates” said Ungano. “It’s additional time and costs when a customer realizes the etched metal or plastic plate has incorrect data and requires a new plate. TTDS-245 panel labels allow our customers integrate custom logos along with variable data and print all in-house. TE’s panel labels provide a superior solution with a far lower average total cost”.

Panel labels have three distinct layers- a printable topcoat that provides protection, a central film for stability and structure, and an adhesive layer which is ideal to adhere to many surface types including low surface energy and powder coatings. The adhesive foam backing can conform and adhere to textured surfaces, uneven surfaces and rounded shapes unlike traditional rigid metal or plastic engraving plates. TE Panel Labels are ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Electrical measurement window.

Fluke has introduced an electrical measurement window which provides immediate access to voltage and current sensors inside an energised electrical panel. This offers decreased maintenance costs and reduced downtime. Power quality and energy measurements can be made using the external access points without opening the panel door, thus offering safer access and speedy connections.

The new Fluke PQ400 Electrical Measurement Window can be simply installed using a step drill bit and an electro-hydraulic hole punch. Three-phase voltage, current and ground connections cover most measurement configurations. Once installed, users can simply unlock the window cover, lift the lid and connect the analyser or logger leads. The Fluke PQ400 provides access to critical power quality and energy data to help reduce the risk of arc-flash and electrocution. Also by reducing the hazards associated with taking measurements on open panels, troubleshooting process time could be faster and connections can be made without impacting operations.

Automatic probe detection for Fluke 1740 and 1730 Series power quality and energy loggers and compatible clamps eliminate the need to open the cabinet to check the clamp model. Compatibility with standard 4mm shrouded safety-socket voltage test leads makes it easier to make voltage connections, increases safety by reducing the risk of accidentally touching live components and reduces the need for purchasing specialised voltage leads. The PQ400 is also compatible with the Fluke 430 Series Power Quality Analysers.

The PQ400 windows are safety rated to CAT IV 600V and CAT III 1000V. Full 360 degree rotation allows the electrical measurement window to be oriented in any direction.

Surface mounted indicators.

The latest LED surface mount indicators from IDEC have been introduced by Foremost Electronics.

The LH1D series of LED Spider Lights are a slim and stylish design ideal for mounting on the surface of equipment or panels and offer excellent visibility from the front and the side. The surface-mount design does not affect the location of other panel components and requires only a small space behind the mounting surface.

LH1D Spider Lights can be used in many applications that do not have space behind the panel to mount conventional indicators. Typical applications include robotic arms, product picking machines, door monitoring and other applications where designers require dual-colour pre-wired LED Spider Lights rather than having to mount individual status indicators.

Key Features include LED indicators in seven colours and dual-colour as standard in flat or dome designs with three-colour illumination available in the jumbo dome model. An integrated 1m connecting cable is provided as standard with 3m and 5m available as options and a 30cm M12 connector terminated cable is available for the jumbo dome version. Marking film can be inserted into flat Spider Lights allowing customer legends and symbols to be printed and displayed.

The 24V AC/DC Spider Lights provide an impressive 50,000 hour lifespan while consuming low levels of energy and are UL Listed, CE marked and TUV rated. All Spider Light LED indicators are NEMA Type 4X and IP67 rated for protection against exposure to water or oils.

Energy efficient lighting in housings.

The high-performance, energy-efficient LED technology of Rittal’s new LED system lights optimises illumination in housings and enclosures. As well as maintenance engineers, the new development also benefits control system and switchgear manufacturers. With user-friendly connection and assembly options, the lights facilitate everyday workshop production. This makes using the new LED system lights a no-brainer for Blumenbecker Automatisierungstechnik, a leading control system and switchgear manufacturer based in Beckum (D).

“That’s exactly what we want,” says Heinz-Josef Schmitz from Blumenbecker Automatisierungstechnik GmbH. Intelligent enclosure components that are easy to install like Rittal’s LED system lights are a great help to the senior executive responsible for switchgear production. “In our production processes with a large proportion of manual operations, it’s vital to find ways of achieving substantial time savings by making assembly easier,” he says, adding that Blumenbecker is benefiting from the lights’ fast, tool-free assembly and wiring. “Wherever we want to locate a system light at the end of the enclosure configuration process, it’s not fixed in a set position but can be installed flexibly in line with our requirements and fits anywhere in the enclosure frame.”

The new LED system lights from Rittal have been specifically developed for use in enclosure systems, where they ensure ideal illumination of the entire enclosure. With a luminous intensity of 1200 and 900 lumens, even large enclosures up to 1200 mm wide and 2,200 high are perfectly illuminated with the Rittal LED system lights. Should they require a lower light output in smaller enclosures, lights with 600 and 400 lumens are now also available for control and switchgear manufacturers. The version with 600 lumens of light output meets the standard requirements for the large TS 8 enclosure, for instance, while the 400-lumen lights meet those for wall-mounted enclosures such as the Rittal AE compact enclosure series.

An optical cover made of transparent plastic, in which a Fresnel structure is integrated, serves to optimally illuminate the enclosure. It focuses the light so that the entire enclosure is illuminated in a targeted way, even at the bottom. This means the light reaches exactly those places where it is needed – without being scattered into the outer areas. In addition, all the lights have been designed for a wide range of AC voltages (100 – 240 V AC) or DC voltage (24 V DC) and can therefore be used all over the world, so Rittal offers a light that is suitable for every market. This cuts storage costs and reduces complexity when selecting products.

The lights can be adapted to any type of installation, i.e. they can be fitted either vertically or horizontally in the enclosure section. They can be mounted quickly and easily simply by clamping them into the TS 8 enclosure section. They can also be screwed into the section. The use of a universal bracket aids rapid assembly in AE compact enclosures. Rittal also offers suitable accessories for all the LED system lights, such as door-operated switches and through-wiring for bayed suites.

Panel LED.

Wilbrecht LEDCO has introduced its new 14mm mount CL series panel LED for industrial and outdoor applications.

The CL series incorporates a 10mm LED available in red, green, yellow, blue and bicolor options. Pre-wired with internal resistors, the indicators can be configured for voltages up to 60 VDC or 120/240 VAC.

The robust M14 size metal housing is designed for panel thicknesses up to .394" (10mm) and is resistant to shock and vibration. Fully filled with epoxy and equipped with a front sealing gasket, the indicator offers IP67 front and back sealing for outdoor use.

LED indicators for thick panels.

Microprecision Electronics has introduced a new long body nickel-plated panel mount LED. The housing is designed to easily fit panel thicknesses of up to 9.0mm even with additional washer. The front mounted prominent and recessed bezel shaped forms come with termination options leads or Faston style quick connects. The fully potted leads version with additional gasket offers front and backside IP67 sealing for water resistance and outdoor use.

Long Body LEDThe rugged vibration and water resistant LED indicators are well suited for a number of applications, including industrial control panels, transportation dashboards, gaming/vending machines and aircraft/military instrumentation. The products are US made and can be modified to fit custom needs for special wires, connectors or marking.

All versions are available in a broad range of colors and intensities, including daylight readable red, yellow, green, orange as well as bicolor, blue, white, flashing, infrared and night vision compatible LEDs. They can be supplied with an additional built in resistor for voltages up to 48VDC.

Updated thermal calculation software!

To simplify the often time-consuming and complicated calculation of enclosure cooling and heating require-ments use Rittal’s Therm 6.3 software.

Input the dimensions and position of your panel, together with the heat loss of the equipment installed, the ambient temperature, your preferred internal temperature and details of the available power supply, you can then select a cooling or heating solution specific to your project requirements.

A user-friendly interface guides you step-by-step through the selection process and at the end of the calculation, you receive a detailed report that not only shows the selected product, but also the net heat transfer through the walls of the enclosure. In the case of cooling solutions, the internal temperature that would be reached without climate control. All evaluations are based on the requirements of IEC/TR3 60890 890 AMD 1 and DIN 3168 for enclosure cooling units and so this useful tool also gives considerable peace of mind that suitable components have been chosen.

Enclosures can be selected from Rittal ranges or alternatively, the dimensions of bespoke cabinets can be entered manually. The heat dissipated by installed equipment can be input directly, calculated using actual measured enclosure internal and ambient temperatures or selected from a database of standard components.

Sunshade for process instrumentation!

Intertec has launched a large cube-shaped sunshade for process instrumentation. It provides plant engineers with a highly cost-effective means of shielding equipment such as electronic monitoring systems, explosion-proof junction boxes or analyser installations from solar radiation. Dubbed CubeShade, the protective cover measures 600 x 550 x 500 mm (HxWxD). This provides a massive 165 litre capacity shaded environment that make it easy to accommodate and protect large or multiple instruments, as well as simplifying maintenance access.

The new sunshade design is manufactured using an automated moulding process and offers a particularly economic solution for this common application. Most process instrument sunshades on the market are relatively small and are often targeted at single instruments or small-scale field equipment installations. If Intertec needs to provide solar protection for larger installations – such as two or three process transmitters – sunshades are usually created to suit the specific application by building up multiple layers of glass reinforced polyester (GRP) in a custom mould to achieve the necessary thickness. This manually-intensive process can increase costs significantly. And if the number of sunshades required runs into hundreds – which is common for greenfield projects – the extra costs can be high. 

Intertec's new CubeShade is constructed entirely from glass fibre reinforced sheet moulding compound (SMC). This combines chopped glass fibres, fillers, polyester resin and a catalyst in the form of a ready-to-mould composite that is ideal for low cost, high volume manufacturing. The material has similar advantages to GRP for this type of application, including a high resistance to UV and corrosion from salt and common petrochemicals, and a low thermal conductivity, which helps to prevent heat generated by solar radiation being transferred to the shaded area. It also combines excellent rigidity and mechanical strength – for protection against impact – with a very low weight.

CubeShade’s single-part design and SMC-based construction facilitates production using automated moulding techniques. As standard, the body of the sunshade is 5 mm thick but incorporates 8 mm thick reinforcing ribs around the rim and down the back of the unit. These ribs also help to channel rain and melt-water run-off. 

Unlike many instrument sunshades on the market which essentially consist of a single top shade that only protects against overhead sun, Intertec’s design incorporates structural side walls that also shade low-angle sun, as well as providing partial protection against rain, snow, wind-chill, blown dust or sand and accidental impact. 

Intertec believes CubeShade is the largest SMC instrument sunshade on the market. The design is also suitable for use with equipment such as explosio-proof junction boxes or distribution units and is likely to prove especially popular for new-build processing plant projects. 


CubeShade can be mounted on a standard two-inch pipe stand, or attached directly to walls or steel structures. It is also available in an electrically-conductive antistatic version.

Ergonomics in enclosure assembly!

Allowing panel builders to work in the most ergonomic and safest way possible, Kiesling Maschinentechnik, a member of the internationally successful Friedhelm Loh Group (which includes Rittal), supply Assemblex assembly frames that support and rationalise processes throughout every stage of machining, assembly, wiring and testing of enclosures.

Three types of assembly frames offer simple and variable fixing of mounting plates using quick release fasteners, are mobile, can be tilted, independent of mains power and depending on the version, height adjustable with a maximum mounting plate or enclosure size of 1900 mm x 1900 mm.

Optional extras include the management of cable reels to the installation of the mounting plate inside the enclosure directly from the assembly frame to prevent heavy lifting. Panel feed-through housings offer sealing on both sides! #PAuto

The new Harting Han® HPR panel feed-through housings are sealed on both sides, and so meet the requirements of IP 66 and IP 68 according to IEC 60529 from both the cable side and the device side in a panel-mount installation.

With the new housings, no condensation from the device side can reach the contacts, eliminating the possibility of corrosion or even a short circuit. In addition, Han® HPR panel feed-through housings are ideally suited to fire-protection applications in rail vehicles that demand reliable sealing against fire and smoke in both directions.

The new housings also offer the possibility of factory pre-assembly of the cable sets, which can lead to additional benefits in terms of ease of handling and savings in time and money.

The Han® HPR panel feed-through housings, manufactured in robust die-cast aluminium, meet the usual requirements of the Han® HPR housing range, including protection of the contact area against corrosion, shock and vibration in harsh environments.

Variants are available for inside and outside installation for each of the sizes 6B, 10B, 16B, 24B. Han® HPR panel feed-through housings are equipped with the standard screw locking for the Han® HPR housing range.
