Foremost Electronics has announced the availability of two new windows for protecting Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) from enclosure specialist FIBOX.

The Protection Window (PW) series provide an easy to install, secure HMI access point for any enclosure or flat surface and offers high ingress and impact protection to IP66 and IK09. They can be used to protect control equipment or touch panels and feature integrated hinges and two double-bit locks providing system security while allowing easy access for operators. The Fibox PW series has the deepest working area and the largest viewing space available in the market.

The PW series are suitable for use for use with FIBOX enclosures or those from any other manufacturer. The secure low profile, continuous hinge design and sleek integrated quarter turn locks of the protection windows limits access when security and safety are needed. FIBOX PW series are available in two sizes of 340 x 300 x 90 mm and 450 x 400 x 90 mm and both fitted with double bit locks as standard.

Business development director announced for electromechanical components and sub-systems specialist.

The appointment of industry veteran Dave Martin as their Director of Business Development has been announced by Foremost Electronics. Most recently Managing Director and Sales Director for UK and Northern Europe at nVent Schroff, the market leading enclosure manufacturer, Dave has first-hand experience of both direct and distribution sales.

Cable entry from all angles!

The latest addition to Icotek’s range of cable entry plates are now available from Foremost Electronics. The new Icotek Cable Entry 360⁰ can accommodate up to 48 cables, with or without connectors, from all entry directions. This completely splitable distribution box safely routes cables and provides strain relief.

The new Icotek Cable Entry 360⁰ allows centrally located cables to be distributed over a 360⁰ range and offers nearly unlimited uses. Cables with diameters from 1 – 15mm can be routed, sealed and provided with strain relief in accordance with DIN EN 6244. The distribution box is suitable for metric cut-outs and can be fixed with a locknut, included with the device. Retrofits, maintenance and repairs are simple and fast to effect due to a screw fixed cover and split grommets.

The Icotek Cable Entry 360⁰ is constructed from UL94-V0 self-extinguishing polyamide (PA), rated to IP54 and halogen and silicone free. It has a mounting height of 39.4mm and operating temperature range of -40⁰ C to 140⁰C (static).

Control panel switches.

A range of 22mm control panel switches from IDEC with secure screw-less push-in terminations which greatly reduce assembly time has been intrioduced by Foremost Electronics.

Commonly used in control panel and machine building applications the Push-In termination technology option is available on the industry standard YW and HW series and the CW series (flush mounting) switches. Each of these three series of switches are for 22mm mounting and available as a push button (with and without illumination), selector switch, key selector switch and pilot light/indicators.

In recent years wire termination technology has slowly migrated away from the traditional screw connector and moved towards “screw-less” terminations. This was first seen on the simple DIN rail terminal and then on to other hardware such as PLCs, relay sockets and more. Initially this change to screw-less was done with a “spring clamp”, however this still required a screwdriver to open the spring to allow the cable to be inserted. More recently, the spring clamp has taken a step sideways and the “push-in termination” has taken the lead. This simple, safe and smart connectivity is now referred to by IDEC as the S3 termination.

With the PUSH-IN connection technology, the force on the conductor is generated by a pressure spring made of high-quality stainless steel. The spring sits in a cage and is automatically opened upon connection and only released when a release tool is used.

Multi rotary switch.

Alternative to traditional cable glands.

A new additions to icotek’s market leading range of cable entry plates, the KEL-DP 25 version A and KEL-DP 32 version A and B. KEL-DP products offer high cable density and are a simple to use cost saving alternative to traditional cable glands has been announced by Foremost Electronics. The KEL-DP is a hygienic design, free of dirt-collecting recesses and provides environmental protection IP65 / UL type 12.

The new products fit standard metric M25 and M32 cut-outs and, depending on the model up to 13 different cables can be inserted through a single gland. The KEL-DP range can accommodate cable diameters from 5.2 to 8mm and are suitable for mounting in enclosure wall thicknesses from 1.5 - 4mm

Cable access is quick and simple; the membrane only needs to be gently pierced for the cable can be passed through and the KEL-DP provides very good strain relief on the cable bundle. If a cable is removed and the puncture in the membrane is no longer required, it can be safely closed with an icotek ST-B plug.

KEL-DP entry plates are designed for routing cables without connectors and are snap-in mounted into the panel cut-out without requiring any tools. Integrated spring bars centre the position of the KEL-DP in the cut-out.

The KEL-DP 25 is available in version A (for sheet thicknesses from 1.5 to 2.5 mm) and the KEL-DP 32 has two options; version A (for sheet thicknesses 1.5-2.5mm) and version B (for sheet thicknesses 2.8-4.0mm). All versions have a height of 5mm.

Cabinets and components for Water and Waste.

Equipment enclosures and cabinets require careful consideration in these markets and protection from dust and water alone is often not enough. Electromagnetic interference emitted by electric motors, power supply, relays, solenoids or power lines can interrupt the operation of critical electronic devices used for control and monitoring of water treatment processes.

Cable entry grommet.

The icotek new KEL-SCDP single cable entry plate is now available from Foremost Electronics. This simple to install and use grommet provides a very wide cable diameter clamping range from 5 to 36mm.

The KEL-SCDP cable entry grommet allows single cables, hoses, and conduits without plugs to be routed through panels and sealed with a rating of IP65. Rigid cables may be installed at angles and for railway technology applications there is a version approved for use in in accordance with EN45545-2 HL3.

Once fitted to a panel, routing a cable is a very simple three step process with no special tools required. A small hole is pierced between the different diameter sealing rings, the single circular membrane is then peeled away to accommodate the specific diameter of the cable or hose to be inserted which is then pushed through the hole. The peeled-off area is always round, ensuring a secure seal around the cable or hose.

It is a very simple snap-in mount on to panels or enclosures and can be plugged into cut-outs with wall thicknesses from 1.5 to 4.0 mm. without having to use any tools. Four panel cut out nominal diameters of 25, 32, 40 and 50mm are available and once installed it provides perfect edge protection and sealing to IP65.

Manufactured from grey (similar in colour to RAL 7035) UL94-V0, self-extinguishing, halogen and silicone free, elastomer the gland has an operating temperature range from -40 to +80/+90⁰C (static)

Unique EMC Cable Gland.

The icotek EMC-KVT-DS, the world’s first split EMC cable gland for preassembled cables of thread size M32 which also provides IP54 protection for use in extreme outdoor conditions is now available from Foremost Electronics.

The new EMC-KVT-DS Split EMC cable gland is based on the standard icotek KVT product with the addition of a galvanised coating to create a conductive surface. Uniquely featuring two cable grommets, the KT (small) is used for strain relief and ingress protection up to IP54 on the cable jacket while the second EMC-KT (small) makes contact with the cable shield over a full 360 degrees reliably diverting EMC disturbances via earthing achieved by an EMC locknut.

Harsh environment connectors.

The latest additions to the Binder 696 Series of HEC (Harsh Environment Connector) series of connectors designed specifically for outdoor use are now available from Foremost Electronics.

A new power connector designed to handle up to 32A at a rated voltage of 600V is available in both cable and panel mount formats and comes with 4+PE silver plated male or female contacts. The panel-mount version is fitted with a hinged waterproof and dustproof cover for maximum protection when not mated.

Designed by Binder for fast and easy assembly, the Series 696 HEC female connector protects to IP67/IPX9K and can be supplied with 4+PE, 8 (4+3+PE) and 12 silver-plated contacts and features crimp termination. The contacts are also rated up to 32A at 600V.

Binder have also introduced a protective conduit hose fitting for applications where cables and single wires need to be protected when installed in harsh environments. When fitted, the conduit hose protects to IP68/IPX9K and it can be retrofitted to existing installations when the need arises. It can be used with both HEC 696 cable connectors and panel mount connectors. The fitting consists of a hose seal, pressing screw and securing clip, Binder can also supply the hose if required.

Binder Series 696 HEC connectors are manufactured from a robust UL 94V-0 rated polyamide and feature a fast and secure three-point, quarter-turn bayonet locking system designed for quick and secure fastening. The Binder HEC series has a service life of greater than 1000 mating cycles and the use of a variety of crimp contacts ensures a secure, vibration-proof termination.

They are waterproof and dustproof to IP68/IP69k and can withstand the levels of harsh treatment found in applications such as agriculture and construction where the use of high-pressure washing is commonplace. Other applications include difficult environments including traffic and signalling systems, process engineering plants, water purification facilities and recycling equipment.

DIN rail PSUs.

Foremost Electronics has introduced the IDEC PS5R Series of space saving DIN-Rail mounted switch mode power supplies offering 5V, 12V, and 24V outputs at up to 10A. The slim fitting enclosure sizes range from 22.5mm to 60mm with optional brackets for panel mounting. All models are CE marked, have UL and TUV safety approvals and are RoHS compliant.

Surface mounted indicators.

The latest LED surface mount indicators from IDEC have been introduced by Foremost Electronics.

The LH1D series of LED Spider Lights are a slim and stylish design ideal for mounting on the surface of equipment or panels and offer excellent visibility from the front and the side. The surface-mount design does not affect the location of other panel components and requires only a small space behind the mounting surface.

LH1D Spider Lights can be used in many applications that do not have space behind the panel to mount conventional indicators. Typical applications include robotic arms, product picking machines, door monitoring and other applications where designers require dual-colour pre-wired LED Spider Lights rather than having to mount individual status indicators.

Key Features include LED indicators in seven colours and dual-colour as standard in flat or dome designs with three-colour illumination available in the jumbo dome model. An integrated 1m connecting cable is provided as standard with 3m and 5m available as options and a 30cm M12 connector terminated cable is available for the jumbo dome version. Marking film can be inserted into flat Spider Lights allowing customer legends and symbols to be printed and displayed.

The 24V AC/DC Spider Lights provide an impressive 50,000 hour lifespan while consuming low levels of energy and are UL Listed, CE marked and TUV rated. All Spider Light LED indicators are NEMA Type 4X and IP67 rated for protection against exposure to water or oils.

Connectors range.

Two new M12 connectors from Binder are now available from Foremost Electronics.

Alan Vincent, Sales Director of Foremost said, “M12 connectors are one of the most popular types used in panel building and industrial control. These two new products between them offer simple to mount, secure and waterproof connectivity and the option of lead-through wiring to simplify system assembly.”

The new panel mounted Series 763 male M12 connector is an A-coded square flange male connector and is uniquely positionable and lockable which makes the installation of cables a simple and flexible operation.

The connector consists of separate housing and contact carrier allowing the flange housing to be mounted first and the carrier can then be subsequently installed even from various angles, a common occurrence during installation.

Available with 4, 5 or 8 gold plated contacts, the new Series 763 M12 panel mount connector is rated up to 250V and 4A and protects to IP68 when mated ensuring fast and easy termination. The male square flange panel-mount M12 connector is positionable and lockable for easy installation and handles AWG24/7 wires.

The new M12 female cable connector and RJ45 adaptor combination from binder is ideal for lead-through control panel applications across many industry sectors. The Series 825 M12 X-coded connector has 8 gold-plated contacts and is available in straight or right-angled versions.

Designed in accordance with IEC 61076-2-109, the M12/RJ45 combination is good for high data speeds – 4 paired up to 10Gbit/s – which is sufficient for most control applications.

Also available is a shieldable Series 825 M12 X-coded female cable connector featuring IDT connection and a 5.5 – 9mm cable outlet.

The new Series 825 M12 connectors are rated up to 0.5A at 50VAC/60VDC and protects to IP67 when mated. The RJ45 adaptor gives protection to IP20.

Light guide/light pipe systems.

Foremost Electronics is now offering its British customers flexible light guide/light pipe systems from the long established manufacturer Mentor.

Alan Vincent, Sales Director of Foremost, comments, “Many applications require LED illumination for control and HMI purposes on ergonomically designed products which require complex assembly. Flexible light guides allow designers to illuminate control panels or surfaces without a fixed connection to host PCBs. Flexible light guides are also growing in popularity for aesthetic illumination of control panels, POS, signs, architectural features and public displays for which a flexible light pipe is an elegant solution.”

These flexible light guide / light pipe systems offer an elegant and cost-efficient solution for many opto-electronic design challenges - not least for a minor design change during a product mid-life-cycle face-lift. The most popular versions are designed for use with SMD TOP LEDS. These light guides push-fit into a Polycarbonate housing that is mounted on the PCB with two press-in lugs. As standard, a transparent lens is supplied for use at the visible end. Alternative coloured lenses are available, as are custom lengths. Mentor offers other flexible solutions for SMD and THT LEDs with 1000 μm, 2000 μm and 3000 μm fibres.

They also offers a range of flexible "M-Tube" light guides / light pipes. Unlike conventional light guides, these are designed to emit homogenous light along their entire length (up to 2M). They are ideal for cosmetic illumination of large control panels and have a myriad of other uses limited only by imagination!

Connectors for medical applications.

Foremost Electronics is supplying a new easy locking connector system (ELC) from Binder Connectors. Designed for a wide variety of applications in the critical area of medical systems, the binder ELC series 570 has an intuitive locking system to ensure positive mating with miss-mating being prevented thanks to a mating position clearly defined by the “shape” of the mating area.

A reliable and fool-proof connector system is a must in these environments. The mating system on the new Binder ELC connector satisfies these requirements as well as being proofed against water splashing when in use."

The new ELC series 570 connector rom Foremost features a PA66 plastic housing, has 12 gold plated contacts for 0.25mm² wires and is rated at 2A, 150V. The connector has been designed to have a working life of over 5000 mating cycles to ensure long and reliable operation in applications where equipment is regularly connected and disconnected, a common requirement in applications across the medical sector.

The female panel mount connector provides protection against the ingress of liquids, water splash and accidental electrical contact and when mated the new easy locking connector offers protection to IP54.

Cable Entry and EMC Systems.

Foremost Electronics has been appointed as a distributor for Icotek GmbH. Icotek have been developing innovative cable entry and EMC cable shielding systems for over 15 years, hold a number of patents and are designed-in to global OEMs and leading companies in a wide number of industries.

Icotek products now available from Foremost include ATEX and railway cable entry systems specified to EN 45545-3, cable entry frames and glands for cables with connectors fitted, cable entry plates for cables without connectors, brush cable pass-throughs, strain relief and cable management, EMC cable shield clamps and the CONFIX cable conduit system.

Foremost Electronics has been appointed as a distributor for Storm Interface, manufacturer of heavy duty keypads, keyboards and custom computer interface devices. All Storm products are built to withstand rough use and abuse in unattended public and industrial applications.

Along with Storm’s toughened industrial HMI products, Foremost will also stock its ‘Assistive Technology Products’. These accessible DDA and ADA compliant system navigation devices are used by kiosk manufacturers and self service operators to ensure access to information and services for those with sensory or mobility impairment.
