Magnetic level indicators.

Standard designs for high or low temperature/pressure applications, wide range of accessories and options

The introduction of Krohne's BM26A-8000 completes the market launch of their new BM26A series of Magnetic Level Indicators (MLI) in 2023. Replacing the previous generation, the devices are designed according to specific industry needs.

New BM26A series of Magnetic Level Indicators (MLI)
Initially introduced in 1955, the BM26 series has been one of the longest running designs of level measurement instruments. With over 65 years of experience in manufacturing and application of this device type, Krohne developed the current generation to be the most versatile and competitive MLI series on the market. While the rugged design has not changed, a wide range of options have been added, and former special designs are now available as standard.

BM26A is available for measuring ranges from 0.3 m / 1 ft up to 5.5 m / 18 ft (other dimensions on request). Accessories and options include e.g. valves, thermal insulation, various materials, limit switches, hazardous area approvals, interface measurement, or designs for extreme operating conditions. Depending on the application, communication options for BM26A reach from local indication without external power supply to optional reed switches or reed-chain level transmitters providing analogue or digital output signals.

The new BM26A-8000 for redundant level measurement in liquid applications is available in two versions: the BM26A-8000-TWIN consists of a double measuring chamber with one chamber featuring a flapper indication, and the other one acting as a bypass chamber equipped with a TDR guided radar, FMCW radar or displacer level transmitter.

The BM26A-8000-BI version features a unique measuring chamber with two compartments, one for the OPTIFLEX 7200 TDR transmitter probe and one for the float moving next to it.

By adding a reed-chain transmitter to these assemblies, the operator can compare the measuring values of the assembled radar level transmitter to those of the reed chain transmitter directly in the control room. This allows for redundant measurement as both technologies operate independently and uninfluenced from each other, providing a high degree of process safety in critical applications.

The BM26A-8000 can thus be the ideal choice for steam cycle applications in power plants, storage tanks with dangerous chemicals, separators in the oil and gas industry as well as a wide range of other level and interface applications. Depending on the selected configuration, the magnetic level indicator can also be used in safety-related applications up to SIL 2/3.

Position indicator with I-O interface.

SIKO is presenting the AP05 as the most compact version in the segment bus-compatible position indicators for monitored size changeover and now with an integrated IO-Link interface. As the core element of monitored size changeover, networked position indicators have become an indispensable part of mechanical engineering. Their ability to display the setpoint and actual value on the adjusting spindle to the machine operator greatly increases comfort for the setter.

This greatly simplifies the process of refitting a production machine for a new product. At the same time, feedback on the positioning status to the machine controller increases reliability for format changes and optimizes set-up times. Incorrect settings are prevented, which avoids rejects and damage to tools. In short, it boosts efficiency and reduces setup times.

New: IO-Link interface for swift integration.
Profile
• Position display with innovative IO-Link interface
• Two-line LCD with backlighting
• Setpoint and actual value display with integrated comparison
• Loop positioning for clearance compensation
• Positioning status and rotational direction display using 2x red/green LEDs
• Stainless steel hollow shaft with 20 mm diameter
• Protection rating up to IP65
• Magnetic absolute encoder
Above all, thanks to smart communication with the higher-level machine control system, the AP05 position indicator ensures that product changes and size changeovers are implemented safely and ergonomically. Setpoints, actual position values and the positioning status are exchanged, which converts the manual spindle adjustment into a monitored process. In addition to the proven serial interfaces, the AP05 now deploys the innovative IO-Link interface. This interface enables fast and cost-effective integration via a point-to-point connection using uncomplicated I/O connection technology. Thanks to the open, manufacturer-independent standard of the IO-Link interface, convenient integration options are available for machine control systems from all leading providers. IO-Link Master Islands can be used for the modular networking of several AP05 position indicators. Complexity and cabling effort are thus drastically reduced, as are commissioning times. The straightforward wiring, combined with additional diagnostic features, improves serviceability and lowers downtimes in the event of errors.

Backlit LCD display with high display accuracy.
One key element of the AP05 is the inverted backlit LCD display. The backlighting ensures that the position values are very easy to read, even in places that are difficult to see in or in low light conditions. The LCD is designed as a two-line five-digit 7-segment display. As a result, the adjustment tracks can still be displayed with high display accuracy. The 7-segment display also allows for the additional display of alphanumeric characters, which simplifies configuration, commissioning and error diagnosis.

In addition to the directional arrows on the LCD display, the AP05 position indicator also provides clear visual user guidance via two dual-color status LEDs. These not only signal the positioning status (InPos or OutPos) but also indicate the required rotational direction for direct access to the desired point. The AP05 also deploys loop positioning to compensate for mechanical spindle play.

Mounting compatible with mechanical SIKO meters.
Like all SIKO position indicators, the AP05 also features a hollow shaft, guaranteeing the easiest assembly possible for standard adjustable axles. With regard to the high compactness and the optional cable outlet, the display also finds ways to be used in tightly confined spaces. The clearance of the torque bracket guarantees mounting compatibility with the world's best-selling SIKO counter DA04. This means the AP05 can be used to switch from manual adjustment with mechanical position indicator to monitored size changeover without changing the machine frame. Thanks to the high protection class of IP65 and a hollow shaft made of stainless steel or plastic, the AP05 is also suitable for applications in the food industry, in beverage production, or in the pharmaceutical sector. The display can also be used without any problems, however, for dated applications that pose difficulties, thanks to the carbon fiber reinforced plastic housing and display with impact protection.

Digital indicating signal conditioners.

The first release from Acromag’s new Vertu™ brand of innovative instrumentation is the VPM3000 Series of universal input displays with transmitter and alarm capabilities. These instruments combine the digital indicator function of a panel meter with optional signal conditioning for 4-20mA transmitter output and/or alarm trip solid-state relays.

“These versatile signal conditioners can satisfy requirements for a process or temperature transmitter, alarm trips, and high-visibility display with a single unit” asserts Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.
The big and bright 1.2 inch (31mm) high numerals are clearly visible from far away, even in bright sunlight. Field-selectable inputs accept process current/voltage and temperature sensor signals including 4-20mA, ±20mA, 0-10V, ±10V, Pt RTDs, and most common thermocouple varieties. For additional versatility, units can provide power to drive a 4-20mA transmitter and other instruments. Modbus RTU serial communication is also supported.

The VPM3000 displays are easy to set up and install. Units are configurable using the front-panel pushbuttons, free Windows software, or a copy function from other units. Models are available for operation from 85-265V AC or 12-36V DC power sources. AC units can provide single or dual isolated 24V DC supplies to power a 4-20mA transmitter or other instruments. A shallow-depth 1/8 DIN enclosure with a NEMA 4X front panel simplifies installation. UL/cUL listing meets industrial control equipment safety requirements.

Other advanced capabilities add further value. In addition to converting sensor signals to a scaled 4-20mA current for retransmission to controllers or recorders, units can also perform flow computation functions. The square root function can linearize the signal from a differential pressure transmitter to display flow rate in engineering units. A low-flow cutoff feature sets a user-defined threshold that forces the display to zero for slow flow rates that often produce unsteady output from a differential pressure transmitter. A pushbutton easily toggles display of min/max values. Dual relays enable a variety of alarm trip configurations for high/low, high/high, and low/low limit triggers. They can also be used for process on/off control and pump alternation applications. For desktop monitoring and data acquisition applications, the free software can display and log data from multiple meters on your PC.

This means that users get four times the data content that could be achieved in the same size of HD video wall cube for monitoring and surveillance purposes. This is hugely important given the growing market of 4K IP cameras to support surveillance and monitoring operations worldwide. As a result, DLP® display units need to match the 4K cameras and source device resolutions to achieve wider surveillance areas.

The 4K DLP® surveillance area is much bigger than HD DLP®, helping operators maintaining a round-the-clock vigil to monitor, analyse and act on any suspicious activity. These advantages also translate to public safety applications, whereby the monitoring map can be four times wider than a HD DLP® monitoring area. In fact, almost control room application will benefit, including traffic monitoring, disaster control and broadcasting.

Along with clearer and more distinct picture quality, Delta’s ground-breaking Xtra Slim 4K DLP® Laser Video wall offers many advanced functions. For instance, when the monitored area is still in HD resolution, displaying on a 4K DLP® display is not a problem. In fact, it is possible to open four original HD resolution PiP (picture-in-picture) windows within the same screen.

The Delta Xtra Slim 4k Laser Video wall can accept 4K input signals at 60Hz and pixel clock frequencies up to 594MHz, while support capability is offered for DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 interfaces. Further advantages include wide viewing angle and true redundancy. In addition, the system carries IP6X certification thanks to its built-in intelligent system, Intelli-Sense, a unique and intelligent auto correction system that ensures enhanced system performance and long life without external intervention.
