Wireless I/O modules.

Offering dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity to link sensors and actuators to control networks in locations where cabling is impractical.

The release of Acromag's new BusWorks® NTW Series Wireless I/O modules has been announced. These units expand the popular NT Ethernet I/O family with secure Wi‑Fi connectivity for remote monitoring and control applications. The NTW Series enables engineers and system integrators to connect sensors and actuators to control systems without running network cabling, making it ideal for applications where wiring is difficult or costly. Each NTW module combines Acromag’s proven NT modular I/O architecture with dual‑band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi‑Fi communication based on IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n standards.

NTW communication modules support Acromag’s full range of NTX expansion I/O modules, allowing users to append additional channels or signal types. Up to 64 I/O points can be managed over a single IP address. Available I/O options include discrete I/O, analog voltage or current, and temperature, enabling customized signal mixes at each installation point.

“Wireless connectivity opens new possibilities for deploying NT Series I/O in remote and hard‑to‑reach locations,” said Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Director of Business Development. “The NTW Series gives users a simple and cost‑effective way to extend industrial I/O systems beyond the limits of traditional Ethernet cabling.”.

In addition to Wi‑Fi connectivity, NTW models include an Ethernet RJ45 port, allowing units to be daisy‑chained when a wired connection is preferred or available. This hybrid approach gives users flexibility to deploy wired or wireless networking as application requirements evolve.

The NTW Series supports common industrial Ethernet protocols including Modbus TCP/IP and EtherNet/IP, along with peer‑to‑peer communication. NTW modules also support IIoT connectivity, including OPC UA and MQTT, with a built‑in RESTful API for integration with modern data systems. Security features include WPA3 Wi‑Fi security, TLS 1.2 with PKI and X.509 certificate management, and AES 256‑bit encryption to help protect data transmitted over wireless networks.

NTW modules are housed in a slim 25 mm DIN rail mountable enclosure with pluggable terminals and are designed for reliable operation across wide industrial temperature ranges. The NTW Series has been developed to meet global RF and regulatory requirements, with certifications supporting deployment in multiple international markets.

New I/O modules monitor remote equipment activity and detect power faults.

Acromag has added a new discrete AC input module, the Model NT2140, to their BusWorks® NT Ethernet I/O family. This new discrete I/O module provides six 120V or 240V AC optocoupler inputs for sensing sensing the presence or absence of voltage plus two DC logic I/O channels to monitor/control TTL or 0-32V logic levels. Applications include monitoring on/off levels of pumps, motors, switches (e.g. proximity, limit, float, toggle), push buttons, thermostats, contact closures, and AC voltage power supply levels on a wide variety of equipment. A network interface supports Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, or PROFINET protocols to communicate with programmable controllers (PLCs/PACs) or other networked devices. An OPC UA server, MQTT client, and RESTful API support Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.

NTE Ethernet models provide dual RJ45 ports for network communication plus the discrete I/O channels. NTX expansion modules add extra I/O channels to monitor more devices. Up to three NTX modules can link to the NTE communication module through an integrated DIN rail bus interfacing up to 64 I/O over a single network IP address. Other NT Series analog and discrete I/O modules offering a variety of signal processing functions can also be combined to monitor or control voltage, current, and temperature signals. Remote I/O modules are commonly used in chemical processing, oil/gas production, water/power utility, and manufacturing operations.

“With these discrete AC input modules, you can confidently monitor the on/off power status of remote pumps, motors, and other switched devices,” states Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Director of Business Development. “The NT2140 will sense the presence or absence of AC voltage levels for communication to your control system using a wide variety of industrial Ethernet protocols.”

The BusWorks NT2000 Series offers a broad variety of I/O signal processing options. Sixteen I/O configurations are available as either NTE Ethernet I/O or NTX expansion I/O models. Analog I/O models feature up to sixteen inputs or eight outputs for monitoring and controlling current or voltage signals. Discrete I/O models provide sixteen tandem input/output channels or six mechanical relays to sense or switch on/off and high/low logic levels. For temperature measurement, thermocouple and RTD input models support many sensor types and ranges.

Each module supports three industrial protocols (Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET) which are selectable using any web browser to configure the network settings and I/O operation. OPC UA, MQTT, and RESTful API support facilitate IIoT applications. The modules typically function as a network server, but also offer Acromag’s i2o® peer-to-peer communication technology to transfer data between modules directly or multicast without a host or master in between. Conditional logic capabilities let users control operations with IF/THEN/ELSE statements.

New I/O module controls stepper motors with Multi-Protocol Communication.

Stepper Motor Controller added to Family of Ethernet Remote I/O Modules with Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, or PROFINET interface to host PC, PLC or PAC.

A stepper motor controller is now available in the Acromag BusWorks® NT Series of Ethernet I/O modules. The new NT2710 module provides six pulse train/logic outputs, six encoder inputs, and four general-purpose digital I/O for motion control applications with stepper motor drivers. A wide variety of commands are supported to precisely control the stepper motor position, speed and direction. Linear, triangular, and trapezoidal S-Curve acceleration/deceleration profiling reduces mechanical stress for smoother movements.

Programmable controllers (PLCs/PACs) interface with the NT2710 module using Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, or PROFINET network protocols. An OPC UA server, MQTT client, and RESTful API are also provided to support Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.

NTE Ethernet models provide dual RJ45 ports for network communication plus the stepper I/O control channels. NTX expansion modules add extra I/O channels to control more motors or axes. Modules full of REST.

A RESTful API (Representational State Transfer Application Program Interface) to simplify development of web-based services is now available in Acromag’s BusWorks® NT series remote I/O modules. The NT I/O module system firmware embeds the API to support reading/writing of I/O data. Web services can use HTTP POST and GET requests to exchange information with the NT’s I/O server. This approach allows devices to easily and securely communicate with each other over the world-wide web along a common Ethernet interface. 

Applications for BusWorks NT Ethernet I/O modules include remote data acquisition, status monitoring, actuator control, predictive maintenance, energy management, and more. REST API is a very popular web interface method because it relies solely on the shared universal HTTP protocol standard on Ethernet. Developers can use XML, JSON, HTML, or other languages to build mobile app projects, IoT Internet of Things data interfaces, and more. The RESTful API is very fast and lightweight. It is also very cost-effective since developers can use the same API request across many environments without third-party tools.

NTE Ethernet I/O models have dual RJ45 ports and a webserver allowing remote system controllers to read or write data on connected sensors and actuators. Each I/O module offers up to 16 input or output channels for voltage, current, temperature, and relay control signals. Attaching up to three NTX expansion I/O modules can interface an additional 48 channels with a mix of I/O functions networked on a single IP address. “The NT series RESTful API provides a simple, secure way for web clients to exchange data with NT I/O module servers to monitor or control the status of remote equipment,” explains Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Director of Business Development.

Discrete I/O models provide 16 tandem input/output channels with either active high/low input and sinking/sourcing output. A six-channel mechanical relay output model is also available. For temperature monitoring, thermocouple and RTD input models support many sensor types, as well as resistance and millivolt ranges. More models will release over the coming months for additional I/O functions.

Support for Ethernet remote I/O modules.

Simplifies cloud connectivity and data sharing across the network.

Acromag’s BusWorks® NT series remote I/O modules now offer a cost-effective solution for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. The NT Ethernet I/O modules provide an OPC UA server and MQTT client in addition to the fieldbus protocol stacks (Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, and PROFINET). This integrated IIoT functionality offers a standardized data exchange to simplify industrial communication in an increasingly complex environment. Applications for these high-performance Ethernet I/O modules include remote data acquisition, status monitoring, actuator control, predictive maintenance, energy management, and more.

The new OPC UA and MQTT support make data sharing and connecting to the cloud very easy and secure. Users can combine Ethernet protocols with IoT protocols for real time and IoT data transfer over the same network cable. An abstract data object model eliminates hassles with protocol details. The user application simply reads and writes data that is transparently fed into the IoT protocols and information models. Input, output and configuration data objects closely resemble fieldbus I/O tags to simplify data exchanges.

Ethernet remote I/O modules.

Acromag has released two new Ethernet Remote Input/Output (I/O) modules, the NT2510 and NT2530, as part of its Busworks® NT Series. These modules are designed to be a cost-effective solution for monitoring and controlling analog and discrete signals in industrial applications. Eight models have bidirectional discrete I/O, voltage or current analog inputs, and optional analog current outputs.

“These modules can save money and space by interfacing analog input, analog output, discrete input and discrete output signals with just a single unit,” says Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

NTE modules have dual RJ45 ports and a web server with field-selectable Modbus TCP/IP or EtherNet/IPTM communication. They also have an integrated DIN rail bus that allows up to three NTX expansion I/O modules to be connected, and a space-saving design that requires only 25mm of DIN rail per module. The modules are suitable for use in harsh environments, with hazardous location approvals, high noise immunity, and a temperature range of -40 to 70°C. They can function as a network client or use Acromag's i2o® peer-to-peer communication technology to transfer data directly between modules without the need for a host or server. The modules also have multicast capability and support conditional logic.

I/O modules for hazardous areas.

Acromag’s new BusWorks® NT series remote I/O modules are now UL Listed for Class 1 Division 2 Groups A, B, C, D hazardous locations with volatile substances in the United States and Canada. This certification permits the use of the BusWorks NT series remote I/O modules in environments with flammable liquids, gases, or vapors. The Class I Div 2 certification is often required for electronics deployed in chemical, oil, gas, mining, and other manufacturing facilities. 

With the higher safety rating, the Ethernet modules can be installed closer to sensors and actuators to reduce installation costs for monitoring and control of automated machinery. The Ethernet modules have also passed testing for the European ATEX and IECEx Zone 2 safety certification that is widely accepted in many countries globally for explosive atmospheres.

“The new NT Series Ethernet I/O modules are now internationally certified for safe use in areas that may contain volatile substances,” states Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

Remote I/O Modules for RTD measurement.

Acromag’s newest addition to the Busworks® NT Series of expandable remote Ethernet I/O modules is the NT2620 Series RTD/resistance module. Designed to be a cost-effective modular solution, it supports four RTD/resistance inputs and two bidirectional discrete digital I/O channels to monitor temperature limits with conditional logic. NTE Ethernet I/O models have dual RJ45 ports and a webserver with Modbus TCP/IP or EtherNet/IPTM communication to monitor or control the internal I/O channels.

“Now Acromag can interface a wider variety of temperature sensors and offer discrete signals to monitor threshold levels or control alarms,” states Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

Modules have conditional logic computing.

Acromag’s new BusWorks® NT series remote I/O modules are now enhanced with conditional logic. The conditional logic increases the functionality with a system of rules that allows extremely complicated decisions based on relatively simple “yes/no” questions. For example, reading an analog or digital input value can trigger an action to happen as a result. This value could be used to control a relay when one or more conditions occur. Another example would be when a discrete input is ON and a temperature threshold is crossed. More complex math computation and logic are also an option.

“With this new conditional logic capability, users can easily implement rule-based control functions without programming,” states Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

Conditional logic is configured on the NT’s built-in web configuration page. No programming is required. The modules support up to 64 conditions using IF/THEN/ELSE statements.

Ethernet remote I/O modules.

Ethernet expandable I/O modules now offer field-selectable EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP/IP networking protocol.

The new BusWorks® NT series remote I/O modules from Acromag, are now enhanced with EtherNet/IP support. Ethernet industrial protocol, EtherNet/IP, is traditional Ethernet combined with an industrial application layer protocol targeted to industrial automation. Applications for these high-performance Ethernet I/O modules are remote monitoring and control, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, building HVAC energy consumption, and more.

These modules were tested at an ODVA, Open DeviceNet Vendors Association, vendor-independent Test Service Provider, and received an ODVA Declaration of Conformity. This organization confirms interoperability across vendors and systems.

Loop powered indicators.

The VPM2000 Series of loop-powered display meters with process current output and alarm capabilities is the latest addition to the Acromag Verty ™range. They supplement the digital indicator functions of a panel meter with optional 4-20mA isolator output and/or alarm trip solid-state relays. A dual-line LCD display has large 0.7 inch digits, an optional bargraph, and a backlight for clear visibility in bright sunlight or dim lighting. The backlight glows red and flashes under alarm condition. No separate power supply is required for easy installation almost anywhere. They are even UL/cUL approved for use in hazardous locations requiring intrinsically safe, non-incendive devices.

“These versatile instruments combine the functionality of a 4-20mA signal isolator, a dual-relay limit alarm, and a digital display in a single unit that is powered off a process current loop” explained Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

The VPM2000 displays are simple to set up and install. USB connection to a PC makes setup fast and easy with the free configuration software which can save the file for copying to other units. Front-panel pushbuttons can also set operating parameters and serve as function keys to change the display or acknowledge alarms. A shallow-depth 1/8 DIN enclosure with a NEMA 4X IP65 front panel facilitates mounting. Internal PCBs are conformal coated for protection from the elements while a -40 to 75°C operating range enables use in extreme environments.

Other advanced capabilities add further value. Two open collector outputs and a digital input are standard. The discrete outputs are useful for alarm indication or pulse output. The discrete input can trigger or reset alarms. Square root, exponential, and linearizer calculations perform scaling for flow and volume computation. The two-line display can show the measured process value in different scales such as tank height on the top line and volume on the bottom. Pushbuttons toggle display of min/max values or other units. Dual relays enable a variety of alarm trip configurations for high/low, high/high, and low/low limit triggers. Relays can also be used for process on/off control and pump alternation applications with display of runtime and cycle counts.

Digital indicating signal conditioners.

The first release from Acromag’s new Vertu™ brand of innovative instrumentation is the VPM3000 Series of universal input displays with transmitter and alarm capabilities. These instruments combine the digital indicator function of a panel meter with optional signal conditioning for 4-20mA transmitter output and/or alarm trip solid-state relays.

“These versatile signal conditioners can satisfy requirements for a process or temperature transmitter, alarm trips,and high-visibility display with a single unit” asserts Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.
The big and bright 1.2 inch (31mm) high numerals are clearly visible from far away, even in bright sunlight. Field-selectable inputs accept process current/voltage and temperature sensor signals including 4-20mA, ±20mA, 0-10V, ±10V, Pt RTDs, and most common thermocouple varieties. For additional versatility, units can provide power to drive a 4-20mA transmitter and other instruments. Modbus RTU serial communication is also supported.

The VPM3000 displays are easy to set up and install. Units are configurable using the front-panel pushbuttons, free Windows software, or a copy function from other units. Models are available for operation from 85-265V AC or 12-36V DC power sources. AC units can provide single or dual isolated 24V DC supplies to power a 4-20mA transmitter or other instruments. A shallow-depth 1/8 DIN enclosure with a NEMA 4X front panel simplifies installation. UL/cUL listing meets industrial control equipment safety requirements.

Other advanced capabilities add further value. In addition to converting sensor signals to a scaled 4-20mA current for retransmission to controllers or recorders, units can also perform flow computation functions. The square root function can linearize the signal from a differential pressure transmitter to display flow rate in engineering units. A low-flow cutoff feature sets a user-defined threshold that forces the display to zero for slow flow rates that often produce unsteady output from a differential pressure transmitter. A pushbutton easily toggles display of min/max values. Dual relays enable a variety of alarm trip configurations for high/low, high/high, and low/low limit triggers. They can also be used for process on/off control and pump alternation applications. For desktop monitoring and data acquisition applications, the free software can display and log data from multiple meters on your PC.

Simplifying bridge sensor measurements.

Software provides powerful signal conditioning capabilities for precise conversion of bridge inputs to process current or voltage control signals

Acromag’s new TT351 load cell and strain gauge signal conditioners use software to quickly select from a wide variety of sensor measurement options. A USB port simplifies setup on a Windows PC or Android mobile device with Acromag’s AgilityTM app. Software menus help users set the sensor type, bridge configuration, excitation source, filtering level, and input/output ranges. Advanced capabilities let users fine tune scaling of I/O signals, adjust excitation levels, and calibrate the bridge.

Universal output supports six ranges including 4-20mA, 0-10V and ±10V. Flexible power accepts a 9-32V DC supply at the terminals and a rail power bus option can supply multiple units from a single connection or establish redundant power. The narrow 17.5mm housing mounts easily on a DIN rail. Hazardous location approvals, high noise immunity, and a -40 to 70°C operating range make these transmitters ideal for use in harsh environments.

“These software-configured bridge sensor transmitters offer capabilities not possible with DIP switches or pot adjustments for a broad range of load cell, strain gauge, weight and force measurements,” stresses Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

The TT351 input circuit allows true 6-wire bridge measurement and includes an adjustable bridge excitation supply (4 to 11V DC) with a remote sense feature. Sense wires ensure the programmed excitation voltage is applied at the sensor and enable lead-wire compensation. The differential input performs true ratiometric conversions for extremely stable measurements that remain accurate over time and temperature. Plus, lead break detection is inherent in the device. Three-way isolation between input, output and power increases safety and noise immunity.

Advanced signal processing capabilities, variable range input, and convenient USB programming make this instrument a very versatile strain/load measurement device. A single model can process strain gage, load cell, and millivolt input signals from 1-10mV/V. Initial bridge offsets or forces can be automatically removed with null compensation, tare, and zero balance bridge functions. An internal half-bridge can perform half and quarter bridge completion with precision resistor pairs or bias a floating millivolt input signal. A custom input signal linerarizer function supports up to 25 user defined signal breakpoints. Flexible scaling is independently adjustable on the input and output. To suppress noise effects, users can set a variable digital input filter level or average a number of samples. Shunt calibration tools with a simulation calculator enables rescaling of the transmitter’s indicated strain by modifying software gain and/or the instrument gauge factor. And to test or verify operation, a software diagnostics screen will poll the unit and display measured and computed values.

Programmable Signal Splitters.

Acromag’s new uBSP signal splitter/duplicator acts as a carrier for their microBlox line of plug-in signal conditioning modules to drive two scalable 4-20mA or 0-10V control outputs and an auxiliary 5V third output from a single input.

Users can select from more than ten miniature signal conditioning modules to process inputs from RTDs, thermocouples, two-wire transmitters as well as a variety of current, millivolt, or voltage sources. The interchangeable input modules snap into the uBSP carrier which provides input and output terminal blocks plus a USB port for easy software configuration from a Windows PC or Android mobile device.

“This modular, programmable approach provides an extremely flexible solution to many complex signal splitting applications,” explains Robert Greenfield, Acromag’s Business Development Manager.

The uBSP signal splitter’s USB port allows users to customize the I/O ranges, scaling, and other operations driven by the inserted microBlox signal conditioning module. The powerful configuration software is free and a common mini-B USB port eliminates the need for expensive proprietary cables or adapters to connect with your PC, smartphone, or tablet.

With the plug-in microBlox modules, users can change the input type quickly and inexpensively as requirements change. 1500V isolation safely separates the input from each output circuit to prevent damage to other instruments from surges. Two-wire transmitter input modules provide field excitation for the transmitter. RTD input modules support 2, 3, or 4-wire sensors with excitation, linearization, lead-wire compensation, and break detection functions. Thermocouple input modules support types J, K, R, S, T and E with linear or non-linear output.

To ensure reliable performance, units are highly immune to electrical noise and operate from 40 to 75°C. Power sources from 6-32V DC are supported to simplify battery and solar-powered applications. Units mount securely on a DIN rails with 25g shock and 4g vibration resistance. Hazardous location approvals are pending for UL/cUL Class 1 Div 2 and ATEX/IECex Zone 2 standards.

Reorganisation announcement.

Dave Wolfe, President/COO of Acromag  recently announced a reorganization of their Embedded Solutions and Process Automation Divisions. This reorganization will better align product planning with customer needs and to strengthen the sales channels.

As part of the restructure, Mr. Russell J. Nieves accepted the position of Vice President of Sales and Mr. Robert M. Greenfield accepted the position of Business Development Manager.

Russ Nieves has been employed at Acromag for more than six years. He has held the positions of International Sales Manager and Director of Sales for their Embedded Solutions Division. As Vice President of Sales, Russ will be responsible for growing sales and to establish a culture of success for both the Embedded Solutions and Process Automation Divisions sales channels.

Robert Greenfield has been employed at Acromag for more than 27 years. He has held the positions of Marketing Communications Manager and Director of Sales and Marketing in their Process Automation Division. As Business Development Manager, Robert will be responsible for new product planning and business strategies.

Alarm with Dual Relays and Process Transmitter Output in a Single Unit.

Acromag  has added new limit alarm and transmitter solutions for their line of microBlox® signal conditioners. The microBlox signal conditioning modules, available for a wide range of sensor inputs, plug into the new uBTA Transmitter Alarm Carriers to provide threshold value switch and process signal output capabilities.

Single and dual-channel models support a wide variety of input, output, alarm, and relay types. Models with mechanical relays feature two SPDT switches rated for 5A at 250V AC, 30V DC. Business Development Manager for Contract Manufacturing Division.


Acromag has formed a new Contract Manufacturing Division at its 35,000 square foot facility located in Wixom, Michigan (USA). The Electronic Contract Manufacturing Division will be led by newly appointed Acromag’s Business Development Manager, Stacy Z. Moore

This division offers PCB Assembly to the commercial, industrial, aerospace, defense, telematics and automotive industries.

This new division is a natural expansion of their current design and manufacturing Process Automation and Embedded Solutions Divisions. Utilizing their extensive manufacturing experience they offer SMT and through-hole components, RoHS and non-RoHS compliant manufacturing, component packages down to 0402, automated optical inspection (AOI), conformal coat, potting, test services, and box builds / turn-key assemblies.
