This industrial-grade flow sensor provides accurate, repeatable flow measurements for high reliability and uptime in mission-critical data centre applications. Designed for data centre environments, the flow sensor addresses common specification needs to simplify selection, installation and commissioning.

“As data centres expand to support growing digital infrastructure demands, the Rosemount 8795 applies decades of Emerson flow measurement expertise to help operators improve reliability, simplify deployment and maximise cooling system performance in mission-critical applications,” said Bob Halgren, vice president magnetic and vortex flow products with Emerson’s measurement instrumentation business.

The flow sensor can host Emerson’s proprietary software designed for short-run installations, enabling accurate flow measurement even when straight pipe requirements cannot be met, as is often the case in space-constrained data centre environments. This feature provides 0.5% accuracy at zero diameters (0D) of pipe runs based on the upstream disturbance and distance from the electrodes, and it is implemented during set-up when the sensor is paired with compatible Rosemount magnetic flow transmitters. This is an industry first as other mag meters require either a specially designed sensor with multiple electrodes or a reduced bore to provide this benefit.

For installations with longer upstream and downstream straight pipe runs of 5U/2D or more, the flow sensor can be paired with any compatible Rosemount transmitter to provide flow measurement with 0.2% ± 2 mm/s accuracy for reliable monitoring and control of critical cooling loops. With all compatible Rosemount transmitters, the built-in diagnostics and verification capabilities empower data centre operators and integrators to reduce commissioning risk, while maintaining confidence in ongoing system performance.

Optimised for chilled water and water glycol cooling loops, the sensor provides consistent performance across common data centre line sizes of 2 - 18 inches. Proven reliability and 0.1% repeatability ensures highly reliable and accurate data sent to building management systems (BMS) and data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) for water, cooling and power usage effectiveness (WUE, CUE, PUE) calculations. Its polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) liner and stainless steel electrodes were selected specifically for these types of thermal management applications in primary cooling loops, ensuring dependable operation in closed-loop cooling systems.

The industrial-grade flow sensor is designed to meet common BMS cooling specifications, while also being flexible for various situational needs. Functionality includes no moving parts, 5µS/cm minimum conductivity, dual 4-20mA plus Modbus output, universal power for AC or DC usage, flexibility for integrally or remotely mounted transmitters, and Short Run Installation software. These functions enable standardisation around a single solution for all hydronic needs at a data centre site. Emerson’s global supply chain shortens lead times at the scale required by data centres.

This instrument brings enhanced software capabilities and simplified ordering to Emerson’s existing magnetic flow meter portfolio, strengthening Emerson’s instrumentation offering for data centre customers.

Combustible gas detection capabilities.

Lower explosive limit monitoring over WirelessHART, for greater hazard visibility without added power or signal wiring

The capabilities of Emerson's Rosemount™ 928 Wireless Gas Monitor have been expanded by adding combustible gas detection, enabling percent lower explosive limit (%LEL) monitoring over the secure WirelessHART® platform. The update helps users monitor combustible hazards in remote or hard‑to‑wire locations without the need for additional power or costly signal wiring.

“Adding combustible gas detection to the Rosemount 928 gives customers more flexibility as safety requirements evolve,” said Dave Ruhland, global flame and gas product manager for Emerson’s measurement instrumentation business. “Facilities can extend their wireless gas detection strategy to include combustible hazards on existing WirelessHART platforms – simplifying installation and supporting reliable monitoring in more hard-to-reach areas across their facilities.”

The updated Rosemount 928 device supports measurements from 0% to 100% LEL, which gives users early warning and complete visibility into combustible gas hazards, helping them detect risks sooner and respond more effectively as conditions escalate.

The combustible sensing technology is also designed to help reduce maintenance over time. Because the sensor does not rely on consumable elements, such as catalytic beads, that can degrade with repeated gas exposure, it can support longer service intervals and reduce the need for frequent recalibration.

Secure WirelessHART communication transmits combustible gas data in real time, enabling deployment with no added power or signal wiring in hard-to-reach areas. The update is intended to complement existing gas detection programmes by helping teams add monitoring points in locations that may be logistically impractical or too costly to hardwire.

Magmeters with PECS.

PEX liners deliver durable, abrasion-resistant performance across flow meter portfolio, without PFAS-related compliance issues or added costs.

The release of PEX liners for the Rosemount™ 8750W Magnetic Flow Meter has been announced by Emerson. The Rosemount 8705 Flanged Magnetic Flow Meter and Rosemount MS Magnetic Flow Meter sensors are designed for water/wastewater and other slurry or abrasive applications. The new PEX liner gives users a longer lasting, PFAS‑free and more cost-effective flow meter solution that simplifies stocking and compliance while improving reliability in chemically aggressive conditions.

Existing liner solutions have relatively poor wear resistance to both chemical attack and abrasive slurries, emitting harmful chemicals as they wear. These solutions are also expensive to purchase and maintain, with liner flaring often occurring if meters are not installed promptly or removed temporarily and then reinstalled. Existing solutions also present stocking and inventory challenges because different applications require different liner types, an issue compounded by their relatively high cost.

To address these issues, Rosemount magnetic flow meters now provide a PEX liner option that is not available from other suppliers. This exclusivity enables end users to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) concerns and durability challenges, without changing measurement technology or suppliers.

PEX liners formulated without PFAS help end users respond to increasing regulatory, environmental and public scrutiny, while maintaining liner performance. This simplifies material selection and stocking compared to fluoropolymer-based liners, as the latter can differ in materials of construction, depending on the application.

The PEX liners’ crosslinked molecular structure delivers high abrasion resistance, making it suitable for wastewater, slurries and other applications with entrained solids where liner wear can reduce product life. Even with all these advantages, PEX liners are typically less expensive than alternative solutions. PEX liners are available now for line sizes up to 8 inches, with liners for larger line sizes under development.

Wireless transmitter enables remote asset control.

Provides unprecedented flexibility for control and monitoring of field assets.

The Rosemount™ 802 Wireless Multi-Discrete Input or Output Transmitter has been released by Emerson. It has eight discrete input/output (I/O) channels, each one configurable as an input or an output. WirelessHART® capability allows the transmitter to connect to a wireless gateway, which can in turn link to a host—such as a control system or asset management system—via a wired connection. This allows the host to monitor and control assets remotely over a WirelessHART network.

The new 802 transmitter and its predecessor, the Rosemount 702 Wireless Discrete Dual Input or Output Transmitter, are the only WirelessHART-enabled remote I/O transmitters available today, supporting Emerson’s vision of a Boundless Automation™ Intelligent Field with flexible configuration and ease of deployment via wireless connectivity.

The wireless capabilities of the transmitter dramatically reduce the costs associated with monitoring and controlling field-installed assets, such as motors, valves, and pumps, which traditionally require time-consuming field visits from technicians or a hardwired connection. The new Rosemount 802 minimizes these costs and improves safety by removing the field technician from hazardous areas while maintaining the discrete input and output control levels enabled by the host system.

The Rosemount 802 functions in a similar manner to their 702 transmitters, but with eight I/O channels instead of two, each one configurable as a discrete input or output. For installations where multiple assets are located in one area and each must be monitored and/or controlled, the 802 transmitter is a more cost-effective solution than the Rosemount 702.

Power options include 10-30 volt direct current external line power or an Emerson SmartPower™ module. The latter option requires no wiring, provides up to eight years of maintenance-free operation, and can be quickly and easily replaced in the field.

The Rosemount 802 transmitter is certified according to the following safety standards: ATEX Zone 2 Intrinsically Safe, USA Division 2 Non-Incendive and Zone 2 Intrinsically Safe, Canada Division 2 Non-Incendive and Zone 2 Intrinsically Safe, and IECEx Zone 2 Intrinsically Safe. The device enclosure is rated according to NEMA® 4X and IP66.

Acoustic particle monitor.

Monitor entrained sand in real-time, providing data essential to improving well throughput, safety, and uptime.

The Rosemount™ SAM42 Acoustic Particle Monitor for measuring the amount of entrained sand in the output from oil and gas wells has been announced by Emerson. The monitor can detect extremely low concentrations of entrained sand in challenging conditions with a high level of measurement repeatability and sensitivity. Accurate real-time data helps minimize erosion risk, allowing producers to maximize throughput without compromising asset safety. An all-in-one design features onboard data processing, explosion-proof protection, and simple installation with no pipe penetration needed.

The output from oil and gas wells often contains varying amounts of entrained sand that can pose a serious erosion risk and lead to equipment damage, loss of containment, environmental risk, costly repairs, curtailed production, and reduced profits. Effective sand management depends on knowing the amount of entrained sand flowing through the topside piping infrastructure in real time.

Many facilities rely on “grab-samples” to characterize and quantify the entrained sand, which only measures the entrained sand for that one moment in time. This method is ineffective as sand production can fluctuate significantly, posing safety risks to personnel and equipment through delayed decision making. Failure to act quickly exposes assets to excessive erosion, increasing maintenance expenses and the risk of unexpected shutdowns.

The Rosemount SAM42 Acoustic Particle Monitor addresses these issues by sending critical data instantly to staff onsite and to asset management systems via a Modbus® RTU RS485 digital wired connection, where it is used to adjust production flows as needed. A compact and non-intrusive design makes the device easy to install without pipe modifications, simplifying field deployment and reducing maintenance costs.

The Rosemount SAM42 is available in two versions that are designed to accommodate pipe surface temperatures between -40 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 Celsius) and 554 F (290 C), making it suitable for oil and gas applications and geothermal energy production. It can be mounted on pipes with diameters between 2-48 inches and is rated for use in hazardous areas with Ex d (Flameproof) approvals, including ATEX, IECEx, USA, and Canada; and Ex i (Intrinsic Safety) approvals, including ATEX, IECEx.
