Automation company's new campus in France.

Sustainable building design reduces energy consumption by about 70 percent.

Endress+Hauser has inaugurated its new company campus in Cernay (F). The event was attended by customers, partners, company employees, and business and government representatives.  Endress+Hauser has been manufacturing flowmeters in Cernay for customers worldwide since 1991. With the relocation of around 140 employees from its former sales centre to Cernay, the company has now brought together production, sales and central functions at a single site.

“The new campus provides the optimal environment for closer collaboration between sales, service and production. It enhances our customer closeness, promotes innovation and supports our long-term growth,” says Peter Selders, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group. Steven Endress, President of the Endress+Hauser Supervisory Board, added: “The campus combines our long-standing roots in Alsace with a renewed focus on the future. It is an investment that highlights our commitment to our employees, to this region and to the sustainable growth of our business.”

The new sales building houses modern workspaces and meeting areas across 5,700 square meters. The facilities include a customer experience center, a Process Training Unit (PTU) for hands-on training, numerous breakout spaces and common areas, and a 120-seat auditorium. The building meets the highest environmental standards and was developed in close coordination with local employees, who actively engaged with the planning and execution phase and had input into their new work environment’s design.

To avoid paving over additional land, Endress+Hauser demolished an existing building. In the process, 96 percent of the total 1,405 tons of material was reused or recycled. Trees on the site were preserved or replanted. Further, the new facility meets the requirements of France’s RE2020 environmental regulation for new buildings. It will consume about 70 percent less energy than the previous headquarters, thanks to geothermal energy, photovoltaic installations, green roofs, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.

Endress+Hauser’s long-standing ties to Alsace also played an important role in the project’s implementation, with 95 percent of the companies involved coming from the region.

Groundbreaking for new production building.

Sensirion held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new production building in Stäfa (CH) on in October 2025. The modern production facility, featuring highly classified cleanrooms for the semiconductor industry, will be built on Laubisrütistrasse over the next two and a half years. This project, together with the acquisition of land at Moritzberg for an additional office building, underscores the long- term commitment of the sensor manufacturer to its Stäfa site and secures more than 800 jobs in the region.

Their existing production building at full capacity and cannot accommodate any additional production facilities. To ensure reliable and on-time delivery in the future, Sensirion is therefore creating the capacity it needs for further growth, technological development and greater production reliability with the new building. As a systemically important supplier with long-term customer contracts, Sensirion has an obligation to guarantee maximum security of supply. Some key customers also require a redundant production site.

The new production building will also require the construction of a new office building for workstations, as additional engineers will be needed to handle the gradual expansion of production facilitated by the new building. This is why the property at Moritzberg was purchased. It will provide the space for the high-tech core processes, including their development and production, at the headquarters in Stäfa.

Sustainable building technology.
The new production building F will be integrated into the site map of all Sensirion buildings at the Stäfa site. Covering an area of 11,000 m2, it will house, in addition to high-tech cleanrooms, a logistics area with delivery facilities, technical rooms and parking spaces on two underground levels. It is right by and connected via walkway to the main building A at Laubisrütistrasse 50, which houses the reception, the canteen with roof terrace, and office and laboratory spaces.

The building will meet the Minergie P sustainability standard. The materials used in the building and its construction will also comply with the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) Gold certification standard. The surrounding area, including by the bus stop, will be upgraded with a tree-lined avenue along Laubsrütistrasse and a fountain.

Flow & environmental sensor manufacturer expands facility.

The expansion of Sensiron's production facility in Debrecen, (H) has been completed. The additional building comprises roughly 7,000 m2 of new production and logistics capacity. This will significantly increase production capacity for sensor modules to support Sensirion’s ambitious growth objectives. Sensirion is also strengthening its position as an attractive employer with secure jobs and good working conditions at its Debrecen site.

“We are proud of the Debrecen site and see great growth potential. This is largely down to our dedicated and highly competent team,” says Franziska Brem, VP Operations at Sensirion. “We are committed to long-term, sustainable growth and want to further establish ourselves as an employer with secure jobs and good working conditions in Debrecen.”

Sensirion opened its Debrecen site five years ago. Millions of sensors and modules are now manufactured in Hungary and delivered to customers worldwide. Sensor modules are primarily produced for applications in the medical technology and automotive markets, which have exacting quality requirements. For the past year, leakage modules for the detection of A2L refrigerants for the American market have also been manufactured there. This has established the Debrecen site as a strategically important module production location for Sensirion.

The extension building is attached to the existing building. Additional ISO7-class cleanrooms were added to the production facility, making it possible to carry out production steps in an environment with the highest purity standards. Great importance was also attached to sustainability – much like at the production site in Stäfa, Switzerland. The new building was integrated into the existing energy system and is based on a reversible geothermal heat pump. This is connected to a storage system together with a heat recovery system. A photovoltaic system complements the completely fossil-free system. With the installed solar power, Sensirion can generate around 25% of its electricity requirements in Debrecen itself. The extension was built and financed by a local build-to-suit partner. Sensirion has signed a long-term rental agreement.

The expansion of the production facility in Debrecen is an important strategic step for Sensirion and is in line with the company’s sustainable growth strategy and its desire to create more jobs in Debrecen. In Hungary, the high-tech company employs a continuously growing team of qualified and committed staff from a variety of different technical disciplines, including process engineering, materials sciences, chemistry, electrical engineering, automation and mechanical engineering. The expansion will have no impact on jobs in Switzerland. Sensirion is also planning to expand its production capacity in Switzerland in the medium term.

Investment to meet European demand for flexible automation and robotics solutions.

An investment of $280 million will build a new state-of-the-art ABB Robotics European Campus in Västerås, (S) and expand its manufacturing footprint in Europe

“The investment in our new Campus is driven by customer demand and projected market growth,” said Björn Rosengren, ABB CEO. “Following important investments in China and the U.S, the new facility in Sweden will strengthen our capabilities in serving our customers in Europe with locally manufactured products in a growing market. Already today, around 95 percent of the robots ABB sells in the region are manufactured here. This is a strong commitment not only to our “local for local” strategy, but to all our robotics customers across Europe.”

ABB’s investment in this Robotics Campus will enhance its robotics and automation leadership globally. With the facility, the company will expand production capacity by 50 percent and strengthen its capabilities to supply the European market, which is expected to grow at seven percent CAGR through 20271. When the campus is completed, ABB will have invested $450 million in its three robotics facilities since 2018, including its mega factory in Shanghai (CN) that supplies customers in Asia and the Auburn Hills  (USA) facility that supports the Americas.

“This is a great time to invest in robotics and automation. This new Campus is a significant part of our global growth story and key in supporting our European customers as they accelerate investment in robotics and AI due to the reshoring of industry, the move to more sustainable supply chains and long-term labor shortages,” said Sami Atiya, President of ABB’s Robotics & Discrete Automation Business Area. “Our Robotics Campus will help us to serve our customers more efficiently and support new and existing sectors like automotive, electronics, logistics, healthcare, e-commerce and pharmaceuticals to unlock the full potential of automation.”

ABB’s new Campus will enable close collaboration with customers and partners to develop robotics and automation solutions in a safe and functional environment. Customers will be able to test their solutions and experiment with the latest automation innovations on-site. In addition, employees, visitors, and students alike will be able to take part in an open and lively Campus, both during and after office hours.

“Our new, sustainable facility in Sweden will be located at the cradle of ABB Robotics' global innovation, starting with ABB’s development of the world's first commercial all-electric robot nearly 50 years ago”, said Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics. “In our new R&D center, we are focusing on the development of new digital and AI-enabled technologies, making robots increasingly accessible while lowering the entry barrier for applications in all industries.”

The 65,000 m2 Campus will be a modern workplace for ABB Robotics’ workforce of 1,300 in the area and include a new factory, offices, a research and development center, an experience center and a training center for customers and visitors. The new factory will also feature autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) as a key component in transporting materials and products between the warehouse, assembly stations and assembly departments. The construction is planned to start in 2024 and will replace the nine separate buildings that have grown organically since 1974 and currently constitute the robotics operations in Sweden, thus further strengthening cross-functional synergies.

By building the Campus in Västerås, ABB continues to consolidate the area as an automation cluster, staying in important proximity to customers, suppliers, academia, and partners. The Campus will provide a unique opportunity to develop the ecosystem while maintaining rapid lead times, with shorter transports and a reduced carbon footprint. It also further allows ABB to leverage competencies and capabilities cultivated by ABB Robotics in Sweden over the past 50 years.

The campus will be constructed in line with ABB’s 2030 Sustainability Targets that aim towards carbon neutrality within ABB’s operations by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing preservation of resources. To support this, consideration will be made in the selection of building materials and construction processes as well as in the use of solar panels on the roof.
