Carbon dioxide sensor.

Engineered for accuracy, built to endure.

The SCD53 CO2 sensor, from Sensirion, is designed to address an increasingly relevant challenge in gas sensing: maintaining accuracy long-term without relying on costly manual recalibration or regular exposure to outdoor fresh air. This their next generation high-performance COsensor is to be launched in late 2026.

Many sensors in use today successfully apply automatic baseline calibration algorithms (i.e., “ABC” or “ASC”) to maintain their accuracy over time. These assume regular exposure of the sensor to air at the atmospheric baseline concentration. However, not all applications can guarantee fulfillment of this condition, including demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) systems for permanently occupied spaces, exclusively mechanically ventilated buildings, or smart greenhouses.

The SCD53 combines Sensirion’s leading expertise in photoacoustic NDIR sensing with advanced laser technology for excellent long-term stability independent of fresh-air based recalibration algorithms. Furthermore, the sensor provides best-in-class accuracy, with robustness against dust, vibrations or mechanical forces. Integrated humidity and temperature compensation, as well as optional pressure correction, enable reliable readings across a demanding range of environmental conditions. On-demand measurements, compact sensor size and a reflow solderable LGA package make integrating SCD53 simple, flexible and cost-efficient.

Security management certification.

Sensirion Connected Solutions has successfully obtained the ISO 27001 certification, the internationally recognized standard for information security management systems (ISMS).

The company, by achieving the ISO 27001 certification, the company demonstrates its commitment to protecting the data of its customers, partners and employees, as well as complying with all relevant laws and regulations. The certification also validates the effectiveness and efficiency of the company’s security processes and controls.

Two innovative solutions are offered for the industrial sector: AiSight and Nubo Sphere. AiSight is a cloud-based platform that uses advanced analytics to provide actionable insights for predictive maintenance. Nubo Sphere is a continuous emissions monitoring solution that uses advanced sensor technology and algorithms to detect, localize and quantify methane emissions from oil and gas facilities.

Both solutions require a high level of data security and reliability, as they deal with sensitive and critical information. By obtaining the ISO 27001 certification, Sensirion assures its customers that their data is handled with the utmost care and respect, and that the company follows the highest security standards. This is part of Sensirion Connected Solutions dedication towards the highest quality standards for its solutions and services, as already shown with its ISO 9001 certified production facilities.

It underscores our goal to deliver high quality and secure solutions for the energy and industrial sector. I would like to thank our dedicated team for their hard work and contribution to this milestone”.

Difference between ISO 27001 and SOC 2 The ISO 27001 certification is different from the SOC 2 attestation, which is a common security framework in the US market. While both frameworks aim to ensure data security, they have slightly different scopes and approaches.

The ISO 27001 certification covers the entire ISMS of an organization, while the SOC 2 attestation focuses on specific security controls relevant to the services provided by an organization. The ISO 27001 certification is more rigorous and comprehensive, as it requires an organization to implement and maintain an ISMS that meets the universal standards for every industry and geographic location. The SOC 2 attestation is more flexible and tailored, as it allows an organization to choose the security controls that suit its individual industry standards and needs. Both frameworks are valuable and respected in the market, but the ISO 27001 certification is more widely recognized and accepted internationally.

Little cube aids air quality.

Picture a classroom filled with children, their eyes heavy, faces reflecting fatigue, and motivation at an all-time low. This scenario is an all-too-common occurrence – not just in classrooms, but in every indoor environment. It highlights the often-overlooked importance of indoor air quality. The team at QE recognizes that the air we breathe has a profound impact on our lives and introduced an intuitive game-changer for everyone – the Wuerfeli. A compact, pyramid-shaped CO2 monitor that continuously monitors the air you breathe while adjusting its brightness to fade into any scenery.

Stäfa, Switzerland – Fresh air not only heightens your concentration but also significantly reduces the risk of respiratory infections like influenza. Regular ventilation is the key to unlocking numerous benefits such as preventing mold, overall well-being, sharpening your concentration and reaction capabilities significantly, while combating fatigue. But how do you know when indoor air quality is poor, and you need to take a ventilation break? This is where Wuerfeli comes into play.

As the name suggests (see below), the core of Wuerfeli's brilliance is the world's smallest, highly accurate, cube-shaped CO2 sensor – the SCD40 by Sensirion. With it, the device transforms you into an air quality expert, guiding you through the invisible pathways of air, optimizing your living space's air quality every day. To ensure your indoor air is as oxygen-rich and fresh as outdoors, the Wuerfeli uses four colors to visualize when to open and close your windows. Say goodbye to guesswork and welcome the simplicity of fresh air with a flick of a switch:

● Blue:     Close the windows, the air is as fresh as outside
● Green:   Good room air quality
● Orange:  Ventilation is recommended due to decreased cognitive performance
● Red:       Air exchange needed – 1 in 30 breaths consists of previously exhaled air

In addition, Wuerfeli's unique pulsating mode in combination with the blue color helps you reduce ventilation time and minimize energy loss.

Mobile Carbon Dioxide detector.

Monitoring air quality, especially carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, has gained widespread public attention in the past few years. A space with low CO2 and fresh air represents adequate airflow, which effectively improves work and study efficiency and reduces the risk of fatigue, headaches, and drowsiness.

The brand new Meawow (a global brand under ZenMeasure Technologies) Mini Bluetooth CO2 detector (H411) equipped with the Sensirion CO2 sensor was officially released in June 2023, becoming the smallest portable Bluetooth CO2 detector currently available on the market. The device is designed for convenient portability and thanks to its small size, it is the lightest and most compact design globally, allowing it to be carried around like a mobile phone for on-the-go measurements. It features a built-in battery that can be charged via a USB Type-C port, supporting extended standby time.

The intelligent design offers multiple measurement modes that service to various usage scenarios, supporting one-click single measurement or four-hours continuous measurement. It can provide CO2 concentration readings within five seconds. Additionally, it can measure environmental temperature and relative humidity and supports multiple display modes, including Fahrenheit and Celsius. One thoughtful design aspect is that it also functions as a clock display – when hung on a backpack, it can serve as a mini clock, as well as a temperature, humidity, and CO2 measurement device.

The Meawow Mini CO2 detector's display interface includes user-friendly indicators in red, yellow, and green, providing simple and convenient visual cues. Apart from displaying accurate numerical values, it uses the three-color status bar and LED lights to remind users of CO2 concentrations. Furthermore, the product supports a Bluetooth connection with the Meawow app, allowing users to record historical data on their mobile devices. It also offers features like LED light disabling for undisturbed mode and CO2 measurement calibration.

"The high-precision and ultra-compact CO2 sensor from Sensirion has helped us achieve a portable design with the smallest size and highest measurement accuracy. We are delighted to see that thanks to this collaboration, our product has become the most lightweight, intelligent, and long-lasting wireless Bluetooth CO2 detector globally. It helps users to improve the air quality in their surroundings by enabling them to measure CO2 levels anytime and take timely actions to enhance their health." said Mr Yuyang Liang, the founder of ZenMeasure.

Measuring hydrogen in the fuel cell.

The leading developer and manufacturer of core parts for automotive electronic management systems in South Korea has recently launched a hydrogen leak detector that provides reliable real-time monitoring. To achieve maximum durability even in the harshest environments, Hyundai Kefico relies on Sensirion sensors.

“Sensirion and Hyundai Kefico are both committed to creating a cleaner and more sustainable world. Thanks to this valuable partnership, we have succeeded in developing a hydrogen detector sensor that achieves maximum durability and reliability even in the harshest environments. Together, we are striving to achieve our goal.” Moonsung Shin, Team manager of Sensor Design at Hyundai Kefico.

Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) have become increasingly important in recent years as the demand for cleaner alternatives to petrol and natural gas has grown. FCEVs are similar to other electric vehicles in that they use electricity to power an electric motor. What sets them apart, however, is that FCEVs generate electricity using a fuel cell that is powered by hydrogen, rather than drawing electricity from a battery alone. In the fuel cell stack, pure hydrogen (H2) flows through a membrane and combines with atmospheric oxygen (O2) to produce electricity. However, because hydrogen has a lower ignition energy than petrol or natural gas and therefore ignites more easily, there is a risk of explosion if the hydrogen leaks.

The answer to this problem is a sensor that constantly monitors the level of hydrogen in the fuel cell. To minimize vehicle failures, Hyundai Kefico has developed a hydrogen gas sensor that detects even the smallest hydrogen leaks in vehicles in real time, ensuring driver safety. Once a hydrogen leak is detected, the sensor outputs a signal in the form of analog voltages. The vehicle can then initiate all relevant safety mechanisms to prevent breakdowns. This makes the sensor ideal for applications such as fuel tanks, delivery systems and fuel cell stacks.
