Easily monitor process fluids in real time.

Many processes require fast reactions to changes or errors. LiquiSonic® from SensoTech GmbH reliably detects these deviations within seconds. Warnings can be issued via a variety of data interfaces - even by e-mail. Thus, users are always informed about the status of their process.

Chlorine and caustic soda are essential chemicals whose production is indispensable for downstream chemical processes. Due to the immense production volumes, small deviations and errors in the individual production steps can mean large financial losses. For this reason, complete and accurate process monitoring is important. LiquiSonic® offers a process monitoring system that meets these high requirements.

Precise monitoring of the starting materials already shows its advantages during the preparation of the brine. With LiquiSonic®, the concentration of the sodium chloride solution can be precisely adjusted down to 0.1 m%. Maximum saturation prolongs the life of the membranes during electrolysis and saves energy during subsequent concentration of the sodium hydroxide solution.

After electrolysis, the caustic soda solution (NaOH) still has to be freed from unwanted NaCl residues and then concentrated to the usual purity. With LiquiSonic ® , this process can also be monitored and controlled in real time. High plant efficiency and unbeatable product quality are the result.

After the chlorine gas has been produced, the challenge is to reduce its process-related water content. For this purpose, hygroscopic sulfuric acid is used as a drying agent. The smallest deviations in acid concentration cause poor drying results and high costs or long-term plant damage, eg, due to rust. LiquiSonic ® allows checking the sulfuric acid concentration with an unbeatable accuracy of up to 0.03 m%. Poor chlorine drying results are thus a thing of the past.

Oil content in refrigerants.

Determining the oil content in the refrigerant circuit often brings challenges for users. Sampling is difficult due to the high pressure in the circuit. In addition, the refrigerant evaporates as soon as it is removed from the circuit. In some cases, this is compounded by the fact that flammable gases, such as propane (R290), are used as refrigerants. Of course, this goes hand in hand with special requirements for the measuring systems. Particularly in large-volume test stands, which are often located in research and development centers, a special degree of protection is therefore required.

SensoTech has the solution for these cases: LiquiSonic® OCR determines the concentration of the oil directly in the refrigerant circuit in real time and without sampling - even in potentially explosive areas. This means that users who previously had to resort to other measuring methods due to the increased explosion level can also use the measuring system. The sensor design is Ex-certified (ATEX, IECEx) and complies with industrial standards. The pressure sensor integrated in the system also complies with these regulations (ATEX, IECEx).

LiquiSonic® OCR is maintenance-free and provides very precise measurement results. This has been convincing customers for years. When monitoring oil in refrigerants, the system achieves an accuracy of ±0.1 wt%, depending on the oil and refrigerant used. Once installed, it provides permanent real-time readings and requires no maintenance.

SensoTech has already measured a variety of oil/refrigerant combinations for customers in its in-house laboratory test stand. For example, mixtures with oils such as ND11 and DAO 190 (CPS). Other combinations can be surveyed at any time in the SensoTech laboratory.

The complete measuring system comes with a process adapter, is plug&play and ready for use immediately after installation. The controller reliably shows the concentration, the prevailing pressure as well as the temperature of the process liquid. It offers the possibility to store additional product data sets (calculation models), which allows a quick reaction to changing refrigerants or oils. Of course, the measured values can be recorded and transferred for further analysis. Due to the robust sensor design, LiquiSonic® does not require any maintenance.

Monitoring scrubbers!

Environmentally harmful, corrosive or toxic gases are used in a large number of industrial processes. To protect people and the environment, the treatment of these gases is subject to strict regulations, in particular which purification criteria a gas scrubber must achieve.

Ensuring the complete conversion of toxic components while using scrubbing liquid efficiently is often a challenge for process engineers. The effectiveness of a gas scrubber depends on the exact dosage of the scrubbing liquid (for example: caustic soda).

To enable an exact determination of the concentration of the scrubbing liquid and the salts, two physical measurands have to be combined. Conventional measuring methods often map only one measurand and neglect the influence of the resulting salts. In addition, in many cases the process is monitored in a very time-consuming manner by sampling and titration.

The LiquiSonic® process measuring system analyzes from Sensotech both concentrations, that of the washing liquid and that of the salt, in real time. This allows exact dosing and adjustment of the washing liquid. The washing process thus becomes much more efficient and safer. Thanks to the explosion-proof inline measuring system, no intervention in the process is necessary. The exact concentration of the scrubbing liquid and the salt content are available at all times. Critical situations in which toxic and environmentally harmful gases could escape can be detected at an early stage by LiquiSonic® and countermeasures can be initiated in good time.

The maintenance-free measuring devices from SensoTech GmbH are very durable and can be easily integrated into the process control system. The automated documentation and various diagnostic tools provide a comprehensive analysis of the process and can be used for further improvements. LiquiSonic® reduces hazards for the environment and employees and ensures efficient, time-saving process analysis.

Sulphuric acid and oleum monitoring.

Conventional monitoring of sulfuric acid and oleum is carried out in many production facilities with manual sampling. These samples are then analysed in the laboratory and a result is available a few hours later. In production, fast and accurate monitoring of the concentration is of great importance, as this influences the quality. It is precisely this determination of the concentration that can be ideally realized by means of sonic velocity with very high measuring accuracy.

It is a challenge for many users that although sulfuric acid and oleum occur in the same part of the plant, identification with a physical quantity alone is not possible. Therefore, empirical values have to be used, which can lead to major problems in case of a wrong decision. For this reason, the combination of two physical measurands for product identification has proven to be advantageous.

By using a feature specially developed for this requirement, switching between the areas is fully automated with the LiquiSonic® measuring system from SensoTech GmbH. The concentrations are determined with a specially developed calculation model, displayed and, if desired, passed on to a process control system. Compared to the separate inline measurement of both components, the simultaneous inline measurement has clear advantages. While the respective calculation model must be selected for individual measurements, this work step is completely omitted. This has the advantage that the concentrations, especially around the switchover point, can be determined exactly at any time and in a matter of seconds. Manual identification and switching are no longer necessary.

If necessary, the maintenance-free measuring system LiquiSonic® offers the possibility of adjusting the calculation model to emerging additional components, gas bubbles and other disturbing factors. The device can thus be used very flexibly and adapted to changing process conditions.

The simultaneous monitoring of sulfuric acid and oleum with LiquiSonic® thus revolutionises the workflow in production plants. By saving time-consuming and inaccurate sampling with the help of simultaneous inline measurement, an increase in efficiency is possible immediately after installation of the measuring system.
