Appointments in Asia.

The HIMA Group has appointed Yao Zhou as General Manager for the China region and Luis Hernando Torres as General Manager for the North and Southeast Asia region as of 1 October 2024.

The appointments are in line with HIMA's strategy to strengthen customer proximity in key markets and to drive the expansion of the local sales, engineering, and service setup.

"China and Asia-Pacific are of great importance for our target markets, the process and rail industries. The appointment of the two new General Managers is an important milestone in our long-term strategy to strengthen our local presence and further expand our customer service," explains Jörg de la Motte, CEO of HIMA Group.

Yao Zhou has 20 years of experience in various managerial positions in international companies. In 2016, she began her career at HIMA in China as Head of Human Resources and steadily expanded the areas of finance and administration. In 2022, Zhou was appointed to the Management Board of HIMA in China, initially responsible for finance and administration, before being appointed Interim Managing Director in January 2024.

Luis Hernando Torres is an electrical engineer with over 30 years of experience in the process industry, including sales, engineering, and project management. In 2012, he started his career at HIMA as Account Director Latin America and was appointed Sales Director for Latin America in 2022. Torres has made a significant contribution to the successful development of HIMA's business in this region. As General Manager Region North & South East Asia, he will take over the duties and responsibilities of Friedhelm Best, who has built up HIMA's Asia-Pacific business since 2016 and will pursue his career outside the HIMA Group.

Brenda Moreno, who has successfully built up and established the HIMA Partner Program in Latin America since 2020, will take over Torres' duties as Sales Director.

A conference on the Blue Economy will be held in Údarás na Gaeltachta’s head office in Na Forbacha,(Gaillimh IRL) on the 29th November 2022, as part of Asia Business Week. This conference, focussing on Marine Innovation and Offshore Wind Energy, will examine developments in the Blue Economy in Ireland and internationally.

Data centre automation business enhanced.

ABB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with ATS Global^* to extend the reach of the ABB Ability™ Data Center Automation (DCA) business. The company has become a Global System Integrator (GIS) and will work with ABB to combine expertise and resources, testing the advantages and effectiveness of potential collaborations for data center customers and growing their respective businesses.

DCA is ABB’s industrial solution for on-premise and hybrid cloud environments. It is a controls, hardware and software solution for control, monitoring and optimization of data center infrastructure, with mechanical control in building management system (BMS), electrical power management system (EPMS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and data center infrastructure management (DCIM) capabilities in a single, ruggedized industrial solution.

ABB and ATS Global will jointly strengthen their distribution channels, improve industry knowledge and increase lead generation. Teerapong Cheepchol looks back on more than twelve years of experience in the pharma industry and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) business. In his previous role, he served as Deputy Managing Director and Operations Director of Werum IT Solutions Ltd., Thailand, where he was responsible for service delivery and business administration since the opening of Werum's Asian hub in 2016. He had an active role in overseeing the company's overall business operations. Moreover, Teerapong Cheepchol was involved in strategic planning and organizing the company's activities to achieve its goals while building a strong team in Asia to provide high-quality service to its customers.

Towards ruminant gas emissions reduction!

Scientists in South East Asia have measured greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from goats and cattle in a series of research projects investigating the effects of different feeding regimes. By changing the animals’ diets, GHG emission reductions of up to 60% have been achieved.

21 different research projects have been reviewed by Gasmet Technologies* which supplied the portable FTIR gas analyzer that was used in the work. The research papers have been published by ‘Livestock Research for Rural Development,’ a peer-reviewed international journal for research into sustainable developing world agriculture.

Prof. Reg Preston, who participated in much of the research, says: “With an understanding of the enteric fermentation processes that result in the formation of methane, it is possible to speculate on the effects of changes to the diets of ruminants, so these research projects were designed to test our hypotheses. In each case, the effects of various diets were measured in terms of animal performance criteria such as feed conversion and growth rates, but also in terms of GHG emissions.”

Major concern exists relating to recent increases in global methane emissions. However, livestock play an important role in Asia, which extends beyond the supply of meat and milk; they are also used for purposes such as draft power, transportation, capital, credit, social value, hides, and as a source of organic fertilizer. Nevertheless, ruminants are significant contributors to atmospheric GHG emissions. It is essential therefore to find ways to reduce these emissions, and the research projects mentioned above demonstrate how significant reductions can be achieved while improving animal production and utilising low cost, locally available resources.

In preparation for his newly expanded role, Chari recently visited Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia where he met local distributors. He also attended Petrotech 2016 in Bahrain.

Commenting on his promotion, KS Chari said: “A key part of my role will be to further develop relationships with distributors and sub distributor networks by providing in-depth training and support to regional offices. I will also be available to answer technical enquiries about Ion Science instrumentation and applications, and assist sales growth by visiting key customers where required.”

Chari has over 30 years’ experience in strategic planning, profit centre management, sales & marketing, business development and customer relationship management. Prior to joining Ion Science, he spent almost 15 years as General Manager with a major Japanese instrumentation manufacturer.

Flow monitoring for oil & gas!

Expro Meters has entered into a strategic sales representative agreement with KROHNE Australia Pty Ltd. Under the terms of the agreement, KROHNE Australia will act as a reseller of Expro Meters’ SONAR based flow monitoring systems for upstream and midstream oil and gas applications in Asia and Australia.

The SONAR product range comprises cost-effective, non-intrusive flow meters and measurement services for individual well, flowline and overall field production surveillance, enabling oil and gas producers to realise increased value from their wells and fields through improved production monitoring, optimisation of well performance, increased efficiency and reduced metering costs.

Sonar-based flow measurement technology was introduced to the oil and gas industry with the deployment of the first downhole, fibre optic multiphase sonar flow meter in 2000. New person joins international management team

Mr. Heng Song Lim has joined the international sales management team for AMICRA Microtechnologies' state-of-the-art portfolio of die bonders, flip-chip bonder systems, dispense and test systems, wafer Inking and other advanced technology solutions and services.

Heng Song Lim brings his proven global business acumen in the electronics industry to his new position at AMICRA.
