50 years serving automation.

Mclennan is celebrating 50 years of supporting automation, manufacturing and science sectors in Britain, with precision motion control technology, engineering expertise and responsive technical support. Founded in May 1976, the company has established itself as a specialist partner to OEMs, machine builders, systems integrators and specialist equipment designers requiring dependable motion solutions for demanding industrial and research applications.

Over five decades, Mclennan has built its position in the market by combining component supply with in-house design, development and manufacturing capability. For automation engineers, this means access to both proven products and the technical resource needed to integrate them effectively into production equipment, laboratory automation, medical devices and specialist machinery.

One measure of Mclennan's success is the longevity of its relationships. The company's very first customer, Metham Engineering - now part of the Will-Burt Company - remains a customer almost 50 years later. The same continuity can be seen in its supplier partnerships. Mclennan has supplied motors from the Impex range since 1976, through its transition to Premotec and today as part of Allient group. In addition, the company has represented Portescap products for almost five decades, providing customers with continuity of supply, technical expertise and application support across multiple generations of motion-control technology.

Thirty years celebration.

Datalogic is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its manufacturing plant in Castiglione Messer Raimondo (I). An event was held in the presence of local institutions, employees, and their families at the end of October 2025. Established in 1995, the site today stands as one of the Group’s key technological hubs, dedicated to the design and production of vision systems and solutions for logistics and industrial automation.

“We are proud to celebrate 30 years of our Castiglione Messer Raimondo manufacturing plant. From here, our products are shipped to serve the world’s largest logistics customers — from postal couriers to airports and e-commerce operators — and to provide laser marking systems and safety scanners for production environments,” said Valentina Volta, CEO of Datalogic. “The expertise, high specialization, and passion of the people working here in Castiglione will continue to be a point of reference for the future. A future that includes new technologically advanced products and significant investments to modernize our equipment.”

Founded in 1995 with the production of the Dataplus 8000 handheld scanner, the Teramo plant is now specialized in the development of 2D imaging platforms and high-performance vision systems for logistics, such as the AV900 and AV7000 linear cameras, used in industrial facilities and baggage sorting systems at airports worldwide, including Milan, Rome, Madrid, Paris, London, Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. The plant also produces barcode-based solutions for parcel sorting in postal, retail, and e-commerce logistics.

In addition, the Castiglione Messer Raimondo plant manufactures safety area scanners, designed to stop machinery when operators enter hazardous zones, preventing workplace injuries, and laser markers used for product marking in the luxury and automotive sectors.

During the celebration, the company also announced its future development plans for the site, including investments in innovative products for logistics and industrial automation, greater integration of production phases, and a modernization of the facility with the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies.

A symbolic tree planting ceremony took place during the event, representing the company’s deep roots in the local community and its ongoing commitment to a sustainable future. Local authorities and institutional representatives attended a guided tour of the plant, where they were able to see the production lines and technology development areas up close.

The event also opened the company’s doors to employees’ families — a gesture dedicated to those who contribute every day to the life and success of Datalogic.

With over 2,700 employees worldwide and operations in 27 countries, Datalogic continues to invest in research, innovation, and development. The Castiglione Messer Raimondo plant remains a cornerstone of this journey, a place where local heritage meets global innovation.

Eighty years of dimensional metrology.

Long history of Innovation.
OGP has enjoyed a rich history of innovation, garnering more than 90 patents over the years. The company started from humble beginnings in post-war 1945, producing optical comparators. Automatic edge detection for the optical comparator was developed in 1956 in the form of Projectron, an early electro-optical image sensing system. OGP introduced the first truly revolutionary computer-controlled automatic video measuring system in 1980 – the Vidicom Qualifier. 100 years in motion!

“This anniversary is not only a cause for celebration, but also a reminder of what is possible with solidarity, trust, passion, quality, and innovation. Together, we look ahead with confidence to a promising future.”

Creating added value for customers through innovation has been the driving force behind the family-owned company, Festo, from the very beginning and remains the key to the company's success today. With its constant determination to make people's work easier and thus increase efficiency, Festo has shaped an entire era of industrial production. Today, the company is a global player and a front runner in automation technology, as well as a world leader in technical education and training. Festo's anniversary is being celebrated with employees, customers, and partners worldwide throughout the year.

The focus has been on innovation, responsibility, and the future from the very beginning. And it is the people who still make all the difference. “Festo is the work of many hands” – this saying of the company's founder Gottlieb Stoll is still the guiding principle for management and staff worldwide. In 1925, he and Albert Fezer founded the company Fezer & Stoll for woodworking machines in Esslingen am Neckar. Albert Fezer left the company shortly afterwards, and Gottlieb Stoll continued to run the company on his own.

The second generation of owners laid the foundation for the company as it is now. Dr. H. C. Kurt Stoll brought the idea of pneumatics from the USA to Germany in 1950 and, as a pioneer in his father's company, developed it further. This marked the start of pneumatics at Festo and paved the way for its use in factory automation.

Internationalisation played a vital role in the ongoing development of Festo. Dr. Wilfried Stoll concentrated on developing the international markets and establishing national companies.

In 2000, the owners separated the power tools division from the rest of the company and established it as an independent company under the name Festool GmbH.

Education is key.
Lifelong learning is firmly rooted in the corporate culture at the company. This is because successful companies need people who understand, develop, and can apply technologies. Training and developing competencies are thus fundamental success factors for a flourishing workforce. That is why Festo Didactic was established as a worldwide, independent division as early as 1965.

The inventive spirit of Dr. Wilfried Stoll and Dr. Kurt Stoll, their holistic thinking and approach, and their positive customer-oriented perspective have had a lasting impact on the company. Safety Symposium.

The HIMA Group, a global leader in safety-related automation solutions, proudly marked a significant milestone: the 50th anniversary of Sella Controls. On October 9, 2024, a safety symposium was held in Birmingham to commemorate this achievement, honouring Sella Controls' journey from its modest beginnings in Whaley Bridge to its status as a leader in safety and control systems, now part of the HIMA Group.

Sella Controls, acquired by HIMA in February 2023 after a long-standing partnership, played a pivotal role in enhancing HIMA’s portfolio, especially in the railway sector, while also expanding the business in the process industry in Britain and Ireland. Over the past five decades, Sella Controls has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation and safety, making significant contributions to projects across multiple sectors, including rail, oil and gas, and petrochemicals.

Celebrating the Achievements, Envisioning the Future
With locations in Stockport and Ashby (GB), currently Sella Controls hosts 131 staff members across the two sites. Sella Controls acts today as the regional centre for the HIMA Group in Britain and as Global Centre of Excellence for rail activities.

The Safety Symposium reflected on Sella Controls’ rich history, including its transformation into a key player in the safety sector. Notable speakers from HIMA, Sella Controls, and key customers addressed how the collaboration had propelled both companies into new markets and technological frontiers.

The future.
For the past 50 years, Sella Controls positioned itself as a future-oriented and growing company. With new solutions, such as digital rail solutions showcased for the first time at InnoTrans 2024, they enriched HIMA’s portfolio. They strengthened the HIMA Group’s position as a technology partner for the global railway industry.

Milestone for automation executive.

Dr Klaus Endress, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group for many years and president of the Supervisory Board since 2014, is celebrating his 75th birthday. As previously announced, he will end his active involvement in the family-owned business at the end of the year. However, he will remain closely associated with the Group as a shareholder and chairman of the Endress Family Council.

Klaus Endress was born on 9 December 1948 as the second of eight children for company founder Dr Georg H Endress and his wife Alice. After studying industrial engineering and working in the United States, he joined his father’s company in 1979. In 1995, Klaus Endress took over as CEO and shaped the Endress+Hauser Group’s development for almost two decades. In 2014, he moved to the Supervisory Board.

Shaping the structure and culture of the Group.
To this day, much of the company bears the signature of Klaus Endress. His time as CEO saw the separation and focusing of sales and production, the introduction of uniform IT structures, the internationalization of the business and the establishment of global production based on the principle of ‘From the region, for the region’. The successful development of the Group is based on all of these factors.

Klaus Endress always paid great attention to the corporate culture. Responsibility and loyalty are core values. For him, value-based corporate management is the cornerstone of sustaining economic success. He also upholds these principles within the entrepreneurial family. Today, a family charter defines the relationship between the family and the company, introduces the younger generation to the business and strengthens the cohesion and unity of the 75-plus family members.

Involvement in many public functions.
Klaus Endress was also actively involved in politics, education, culture and business. He was engaged in the liberal FDP party in his home municipality of Reinach for almost three decades. From 2005 to 2018, he represented the interests of the canton of Baselland on the University Council of the University of Basel. In 2019, the Faculty of Economics awarded him an honorary doctorate for his commitment; in the same year, he was recognized for supporting the development of the Basel region.

From 2008 to 2017, Klaus Endress chaired the WVIB, an industrial association of more than 1,000 small and medium-sized companies in southwestern Germany. On his retirement, the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany, made the Swiss entrepreneur an honorary senator. He also received the German Federal Cross of Merit.

At the end of the year, Klaus Endress will no longer be actively involved in the company. In future, the family will be represented on the Supervisory Board by Sandra Genge and Steven Endress, two members of the third generation. Klaus Endress will remain closely associated with the company as a shareholder and chairman of the Family Council – and is looking forward to spending more time with his wife and two grown-up children. In addition, the passionate horse rider and mountain biker regularly heads outdoors and into nature, usually accompanied by Maya, the family dog.

30 years of industrial computing systems and solutions.

Founded in 1993 by Graham Whitehouse with just four members of staff, the original vision for Impulse Embedded arose from the desire to connect British companies with global technology and support customers’ unique projects. Impulse achieved this from the beginning by being the familiar link between customers and carefully selected and reliable manufacturing partners. From these humble beginnings to the present, 30 years later, the company has grown substantially and still includes some members of staff who have been with the company since the beginning.
 

Impulse’s journey began in the Old Vicarage in Tittensor, Staffordshire(GB). Staffordshire has always been their home – and as the company’s breadth and staff number advanced, so did the requirement for a more spacious and accommodating headquarters. From their current base in Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Impulse Embedded are continuing to grow and innovate.

Over the years, Impulse have partnered with some of the greats in the world of technology who specialise in industrial and embedded computing, networking, intelligent systems, and IIoT. To this day, they still stock these innovative devices and components from their valuable manufacturing partners. In addition to this Impulse also provide customisation services for truly unique products, technical training and full product lifetime support.

In addition to these milestones, Impulse Embedded have also:

  • Become ISO 9001:2015 certified and are working towards ISO 14001:2015.
  • Created an ‘Innovation Hub,’ which combines a development lab, media room, and new tech support seats with a large training facility filled with server racks for hands-on training.
  • Added electric vehicle charging stations to our headquarters to aid their sustainability goals.

To commemorate this anniversary the whole Impulse team went on a weekend retreat to the picturesque Peak District, where they collectively reflected on their rich history, celebrated the present, and eagerly anticipated the future. The weekend was filled with laughter, camaraderie, the creation of enduring memories and of course, a cake, and what better way to mark their 30th birthday than with their very own VELA Rack PC cake!

The cake also served as a symbolic nod to yet another remarkable achievement. It acknowledged the enduring 20-year partnership between Advantech and Impulse, a collaboration that has played a pivotal role in their shared success. Additionally, it honoured the impressive 40-year legacy of Advantech in the Industrial Computing world.

The cake became a delicious centrepiece, embodying both the longstanding partnership and the enduring success of Advantech's four decades in business. Cheers to 30 years of Impulse and to the strong bonds that have made the last two decades with Advantech truly exceptional.

Fifty years of analysis.

ABB is marking the 50th anniversary of its Quebec (CDN) factory which today manufactures market leading products for industrial analytical measurement and is one of the largest suppliers of optical sensors for detecting greenhouse gas emissions from space.
What began as a local enterprise, Bomem Inc., founded in 1973 by visionaries Dr. Henry Buijs, Gary Vail and Jean-Noel Bérubé, has grown into a flagship facility with over 400 employees. Celebrating seventy years of measurement and automation technology.

Endress+Hauser is heading into its special anniversary year with momentum. In 2022 the measurement and automation technology specialist increased consolidated sales by almost 17 percent to more than 3.3 billion euros. Nearly 16,000 people are employed worldwide by the Group. The family-owned Swiss company also has a confident outlook for 2023, a year in which it is celebrating its 70th birthday.

From start-up to global player.

On 1 February 1953, Georg H Endress and Ludwig Hauser officially registered their enterprise. The company has since grown from a two-man operation to a leading global provider of process and laboratory instrumentation, automation solutions and services. The Group boasts sales and support organizations in 125 countries and manufactures in all major economic regions, thus making the family-owned company a genuine global player.

Strong growth, positive outlook.
“2022 was marked by strong growth. We continued to reliably support our customers despite strained supply and logistics chains,” reports CFO Dr Luc Schultheiss. Thanks to a further increase in incoming orders, Endress+Hauser is heading into its 70th anniversary year with strong momentum. “We expect double-digit sales growth in 2023 as well,” says the CFO. The company is looking to create new jobs around the world and is planning to invest heavily in buildings and equipment.

Focus on long-term success.
Endress+Hauser has nearly doubled its sales volume in the last ten years and grew its headcount by more than 50 percent. Far more than 1.5 billion euros from the Group’s own financial resources was invested in new buildings and equipment in the same period. “Our customers value us, our employees are dedicated to the company and our shareholders think long term,” emphasizes CEO Matthias Altendorf. “We can be proud of what we have achieved and can look into the future with confidence.”

Anniversary celebration. Employees will be celebrating the Group’s 70th anniversary through both small and large events and activities all over the world. From 26 to 28 June 2023, Endress+Hauser is inviting customers, partners and industry experts to attend the Global Forum in Basel, (CH), to jointly discuss the sustainable transformation of the process industry.

Laboratory measuring instruments for 25 years.

The laboratory measuring device manufacturer DataPhysics Instruments turns 25. Nils Langer, managing director, says: “This birthday is an important milestone for DataPhysics Instruments, especially after the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic. Over the past 25 years, we have expanded our product portfolio steadily. In our anniversary year 2022, we have customers in over 80 countries and 45 employees. We are very well established in the worldwide market for measuring devices that characterise interfaces and surfaces. Now, it is our task to continue the company's successful path.”

Since August 1997, DataPhysics Instruments has been developing, manufacturing, and distributing laboratory measuring devices for the characterisation of interfaces and surfaces. From the beginning, the focus has been on the development of innovative and modular measuring instruments as well as user-friendly software. This product philosophy will remain at the core of the company.
Modular design as founding principle.
DataPhysics Instruments was founded in August 1997 by Dr Ulrich Busch, Thorsten Holz, and Horst Rau. From the beginning, the company's laboratory measuring devices were modular in design. This enabled customers to configure their measuring devices according to their specific use cases. They were also able to analyse their data immediately after the measurement using the device’s software. At the time, such a modular configuration was unheard of. To this day, the company has remained true to their commitment for a modular design.

With their measuring systems for the investigation of interfaces and surfaces, the three company founders had the finger on the pulse: in the 1990s, materials research made big strides. Examples include composites based on carbon fibres, but also other multicomponent materials for use in the construction and automotive industry, medical technology, as well as in electrical engineering. With the focus on new materials, the properties of their surfaces became crucial. The buzzword at the time was functionalised surfaces, i.e., surfaces optimised for their intended use with the help of surface structuring or various pre-treatments.

The product portfolio grows.
The company's first product was the OCA 20 optical contact angle meter together with the SCA analysis software, which were both developed in-house. Together, they could conduct contour measurements of pendant and sessile drops. In addition, the software could automatically evaluate the obtained data to calculate contact angle, surface tension, and surface energy. Founder and Managing Director Horst Rau recounts: “The first year and a half we concentrated on product development in order to be able to present our first, market-ready contact angle meter.” At the Analytica trade fair in 1998, DataPhysics Instruments successfully presented its contact angle meter for the first time. Over the years, the company continued to expand its OCA series, so that suitable solutions for many applications are now available, from an entry-level to an expert model.

Just in time for the turn of the millennium, DataPhysics Instruments expanded its product portfolio with the force-based tensiometers of the DCAT series and a newly developed software for the series. Through the years, the DCAT series has grown to contain different models, as well.

In 2002, a third device joined the product portfolio: the SVT 20 spinning drop tensiometer, which can measure ultra-low interfacial tensions. Ten years later, DataPhysics Instruments launched the humidity generators of the HGC series. They can be used to set and control the relative humidity within small and medium-sized measurement chambers. Since 2015, the MultiScan MS 20 stability analysis system has also been part of the product portfolio. It is used for the optical stability and ageing analysis of disperse multiphase mixtures.

Today, DataPhysics Instruments is run by four shareholders: founder Horst Rau, Nils Langer, Jens Ole Wund and Dr Sebastian Schaubach. The interest in functionalised surfaces has only grown in importance over the past decades, as Managing Director and Sales Manager Nils Langer explains: “Today, research institutions and companies are developing more and more methods to functionalise surfaces. Plasma treatments and nanostructured surfaces are just two examples. It is therefore all the more important to provide researchers and product developers with measurement technology they can use to analyse the changed functional properties of such surfaces.”

For this reason, DataPhysics Instruments is focusing on the further upgrade of the existing devices as well as new developments. For the optical contact angle meters of the OCA series, the company introduced the new dpiMAX software at the beginning of 2022. The dpiMAX has a clearly structured, intuitive user interface and intelligent functions, which make the devices even easier to operate.

“We achieved another major success with the market launch of the ZPA 20 zeta potential analyzer with its patented measurement method,” adds Managing Director and Head of Development Jens Ole Wund. The ZPA 20 can determine the surface charge, or more precisely, the zeta potential of samples in aqueous solution by measuring the streaming current or streaming potential. To do this, it uses a patented measuring method, for which the solution is flowing over the sample alternately from opposite directions.

Shaping the future together.
Dr Sebastian Schaubach, Managing Director and responsible for innovation management, has a clear vision for the future: “We see ourselves as a partner who wants to refine the scientific analysis of interfaces and surfaces continually. In the future, our developments will therefore be conducted in even closer cooperation with our customers, because it is important to us that our devices can reliably solve our customers’ challenges.”

But it is not only the product portfolio that has grown steadily over the years. In its anniversary year, 45 employees work at DataPhysics Instruments. Further employees are being sought for the development, manufacturing, and sales department. In addition, the premises at the headquarters in Filderstadt near Stuttgart (D) have steadily expanded. Recently, the in-house Application Centre, with laboratory and training spaces, grew and was newly equipped. Dr Schaubach explains: “There, we offer test measurements for prospective buyers and contract measurements with all our devices. In addition, we conduct training courses for device operators.”

The company has always remained true to its native place – and yet is at home all over the world. An international network of sales partners ensures that customers all over the world can receive advice locally and in their preferred language. To be better represented in some target markets, DataPhysics Instruments founded its own companies in several countries: DataPhysics Instruments India was founded in 2020. In addition, the US subsidiary DataPhysics Instruments USA has existed since 2018.

Over the past 25 years, DataPhysics Instruments has developed an ever-expanding range of instruments for the analysis of interfaces and surfaces. At the same time, the company has grown in terms of personnel and space. For years, it has maintained a close relationship not only with sales partners around the world, but also with its customers in research and product development. These relationships have helped to develop market-driven products and to optimise the existing portfolio according to customer requirements. DataPhysics Instruments looks forward to expanding and deepening these relationships in the future.

50 years innovation in electrical measurement.

LEM, has over 50 years, pushed back the boundaries of electrical measurement technology to become a global leader in supplying cutting edge sensors and solutions to such sectors as renewables, automotive, railway and traction, charging infrastructures, energy distribution, high precision and automation. 80 years connecting!

What began in 1936 with Otto Dunkel's idea to manufacture interference-free wire spring connectors has developed extraordinarily since the company was founded in 1942. 75 years in ultrasonic cleaning.

Branson combines breadth of technologies and a problem-solving approach to deliver advanced solutions to automotive, medical, electronics industries worldwide

The 75th anniversary of the Branson™ brand of Emerson, a name that has become synonymous with ultrasonic technologies for plastics and metal welding, and precision cleaning is being celebrated this year. The Branson portfolio has led the industry with expanded offerings beyond ultrasonics, developing nine other material joining technologies including laser, vibration and infrared welding.

The anniversary was marked at its new $49 million global headquarters for welding and precision cleaning technologies that opened in January. The Branson brand traces its history to Norman G. Branson, a research engineer who founded a company in Danbury, Connecticut, in 1946 to harness the power of high-frequency ultrasonic energy for cleaning and degreasing applications as well as nondestructive testing and gauging. But it was ultrasonic welding — developed in 1963 at Branson Sonics and Materials, which was acquired by Emerson Electric Co. (Emerson) in 1984 — that represented the real breakthrough for the company and for manufacturing. It set in motion a monumental change in the way plastics, and later metals, were joined.

Since its beginning, Branson has been driven by the spirit of innovation, and today ultrasonics is just one of many cleaning and joining technologies offered by Emerson’s Branson portfolio. 25 years in sound & vibration.

AcSoft Sound & Vibration is celebrating 25 years as one of Britain's leading specialists in high performance sound and vibration instrumentation and sensors for a wide range of sectors including environmental, automotive, aerospace, transport and telecommunications.

The company was established in 1994 by Managing Director, John Shelton, working from his home. Having spent many years with a competitor business in Britain and Denmark, he recognised that software-based measurement systems were the future.

Reflecting on the company’s early years, John comments: “There was definitely a demand for new, more innovative ways of doing things such as audio recording for noise nuisance and portable real-time analysis. Most of our software was in DOS then but we were the first business to offer a Windows-based laptop system that met the sound level meter standards.

“A firm believer in the power of marketing, we were also one of the first businesses in the industry to launch a website and produced regular newsletters which were very well received at the time.”

In those days, recording signals to disk, and real-time frequency analysis required high specification hardware and digital signal processing, but modern PCs easily outpaced dedicated hardware of even a few years ago.

During the past 25 years, John and his team have built on contacts in the industry and experience of advanced applications to develop a complementary range of products and software from top quality transducers through to final analysis and reporting software.

AcSoft has now grown into a multidisciplinary company offering solutions to large multinational businesses and small consultancies alike, along with applications advice, to ensure maximum return on investment.

In 2016, AcSoft opened an air conditioned, purpose-built noise and vibration calibration laboratory at its facility in Bedford. It can calibrate a variety of acoustic and vibration equipment to nationally traceable standards, including microphones, preamplifiers, calibrators and pistonphones, accelerometers, analysers and dosimeters, whilst offering competitive rates and fast turnaround times.

AcSoft also boasts a growing rental division designed to make it easier for customers to hire instrumentation, software and sensors to meet short and long term project monitoring needs. If fact, the company recently announced that revenue from its rental business doubled during 2018, with more growth forecast for the year ahead.

40 years serving automation in Ireland.

In May 1978 ​​Pat​ ​J Bonner established the company P.J. Bonner & Company. He had vast experience in the area of​ ​​instrumentation and​ automation behind him and formed the company to utilise that experience for the benefit of Irish industry. Pat still maintains an interest in the company although day to day management​ ​​and ownership has been passed to the next generation.

The company is thus celebrating the achievement of the first 40 year in business this year. From a humble front room start-up to the large, modern offices and industrial unit in Ballymount (Dublin Irl) and to their recently opened new premises in Cork, the company is rightly proud of what has been achieved during their first 40 years.

Managing Director, Patrick M. Bonner, son of the Founder told Read-out, "Our success could not have been achieved without all of our colleagues both past and present that have worked so effectively and professionally, our customers that remain at the focal point of everything we do and support from our long-term supplier partnerships. We have been fortunate that the ethos of the company is only as valid as the staff who work here, and by putting our clients at the first point of everything they do – all the team have developed the company’s reputation that is second to none in our industry."

As they head into the next 40 years, they intend to build on the firm foundations and "look to the future and acting on the potential for the betterment of our staff, our customers and our suppliers."
