Connector incorporats moulded interconnect device (MID) technology

Harting has expanded its har-speed range of connectors with a new PCB connector which will be manufactured using moulded interconnect device (MID) technology. A straight variant for PCB connection will initially be launched on the market.

This use of MID technology means that the size of the new connector has been significantly reduced compared with a conventional PCB connector. The new addition to the M12 range is intended for the integration of the M12 connector configuration into high-speed communication devices such as switches and routers.

Shielding inside the connector is redefined with MID technology. The metal shielded cross is now superfluous. Two plastics are used in the 2-shot MID process, one of which can be deployed with a surface coating in a plating process. The new connector is significantly lighter, with a weight reduction of around 30% per component, and like the larger conventional device can be soldered onto the circuit board in the reflow process.

The new MID variant also meets Cat 6A and performance class EA requirements like the products already available from Harting.
