Easy monitoring of robot fleets.

"Smart, Connect, Optimize, Prevent and Enable!"

Remote monitoring, fault identification, visualisation and optimisation of robot fleets – all of these actions can be performed conveniently, securely, and efficiently with the SCOPE platform, which Stäubli has now made even more powerful with a recent update.

Networking and connectivity are major trends in industrial production, and accordingly, advances in this area are implemented as comprehensively and efficiently as possible in robotics as well. With the SCOPE platform, Stäubli demonstrates how practical implementation works and the advantages of connected robot monitoring.

The acronym SCOPE stands for “Smart, Connect, Optimize, Prevent and Enable,” which neatly summarizes the nature of this digital solution for robot fleet monitoring. The on-site platform aggregates, processes, analyzes and visualizes not only robot data but also application and cell equipment data, allowing users to view an array of relevant operating data for each robotic system on a central dashboard. This enables the detection of irregularities or gradual deviations from specifications and allows for timely preventive measures to be taken before quality is compromised, components become damaged, or the production line comes to a halt.

The real-time data collected and the resulting SCOPE analysis can also be communicated to higher-level architecture layers as well as to databases and analysis tools. SCOPE is able to forward data via MQTT, HTTP response, and WebSocket, enabling connection to the user’s ERP, SCM, or MES system.

Transparency across the entire fleet.
The benefits of SCOPE are immediately apparent: Manufacturing professionals always have a secure overview of the status of all robots. With this update, the solution is now even more powerful, enabling the monitoring of VAL3 program variables and I/Os to visualise trends and production-related data. This allows SCOPE to not only play a role in robot-specific data but also monitor cell equipment, sensors, and application-related data. Users can, for example, set thresholds for custom warning alerts. If these thresholds are exceeded, an instant notification is sent regarding deviations from target values. This empowers plant operators to react to trends early and avoid scrap. Further, the ability to evaluate log files remotely means errors can be analysed and resolved from anywhere. Naturally, this solution represents the first step toward AI-driven optimisation processes.

Each possible installation location is marked and clickable. Whether it’s a sensor measuring strip width after the uncoiler, or a strip guiding system at the strip accumulator - every element is anchored within its real context.

This structure reflects the real-world complexity of these lines while offering a streamlined path to the relevant information. By focusing on each line section, users not only understand where a product is installed, but also why it's needed and how it contributes to the process.

Deeper insights at every level.
What truly sets EMG’s visualisation apart is its layered depth. After selecting an installation point, users are taken to the products used at that position. Each product is presented with a high-resolution, rotatable 3D model, offering a realistic impression of the system’s form and look.

From there, technical specifications, typical application scenarios, customer benefits, product brochures, and direct links to EMG’s product website are only one click away. As an example, users examining the strip width measurement after the uncoiler can compare solutions such as the EMG BREIMO or EMG iCAM®, and view both hardware and feature highlights instantly.

The system also offers a seamless connection to EMG’s service infrastructure. On every process line overview, users can access relevant links to service offerings including repairs, spare parts, retrofits, and maintenance. This makes the tool not only useful for engineering and quality management but also highly relevant for service teams and plant operators.

Digital dissolved oxygen sensor.

Long sensor life without signal degradation and supports connectivity with a multitude of host control systems.

The release of the Rosemount™ 490A Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor has been announced by Emerson. This is a digital Modbus-enabled measurement device designed to enhance operational flexibility, simplify installation and reduce maintenance costs across many industrial applications in the water/wastewater treatment, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, and steam power generation industries.

Most dissolved oxygen probes for industrial applications are made for installation in specific and relatively benign conditions. These sensors are often only capable of communicating process values via analogue signals to control systems, and they require frequent calibration to maintain accuracy and avoid sensor drift.

To address these and other issues, the Rosemount 490A provides reliable and accurate dissolved oxygen measurements in demanding environments, while simplifying integration into existing control systems with digital and universal Modbus RTU communication via an accompanying transmitter. In addition to producing accurate readings within just 90 seconds of transition from dry to wet conditions, this versatile sensor is capable of measuring process media in both liquid and gas phases, without requiring separate calibrations.

The Rosemount 490A employs Environmental Protection Agency-approved luminescence-quenching technology, eliminating the need for electrolyte refills to significantly reduce maintenance requirements compared to traditional amperometric sensors. Its two-year sensing cap lifespan further minimises downtime and associated costs, and it can be calibrated in free air.

Additionally, the chemically resistant IP68-rated design ensures reliable performance in challenging environments. Its small form factor, coupled with forward and rear facing 1-inch NPT threaded connections, simplifies installation in a variety of settings.

Unlike amperometric sensors, the 490A uses an optical sensor, which does not consume oxygen or require water flow for accurate measurements. Furthermore, versatile guard cap options provide weighted orientation, anti-fouling protection, and air blast cleaning, catering to a wide breadth of applications.

The sensor is accurate to ±0.1 milligram per litre (0 to 20 mg/L) and ±2% (20 to 60 mg/L), ensuring precise monitoring and control of dissolved oxygen levels. It seamlessly pairs with the Rosemount 1058 digital transmitter, which provides a diverse range of measurement signals for compatibility with numerous host control systems.

Stepper motors.

Innovation in stepper motor technology means the gap between stepper and servo technology is narrowing. In applications where the performance of a servo motor is not required because there are no highly dynamic loads or high speed demands, the stepper (with its choice of battery-less encoders and motor brakes) offers closed loop positioning.

Today, the humble stepper can offer surprising cost effectiveness with uncompromised performance at extra low voltage. The new, optimised EMMB-ST and EMMT-ST stepper motor family from Festo can be used in conjunction with the CMMT-ST servo drive controller to create a coordinated servo system at an attractive price. The stepper motor family includes models designed for regular and advanced industrial automation applications, enabling machine builders and system designers to choose the most cost-efficient option.

The EMMB-ST range of stepper motors is the basic series for regular industrial applications. This cost-effective model is particularly suitable for series machine manufacturers and applications in electronics and small parts handling. It features a One Cable Plug (OCP) cable that saves space and enables front or rear alignment. Providing reliable and cost-effective operation, EMMB-ST stepper motors are rated to IP20 (shaft IP40).

The premium range of EMMT-ST stepper motors are designed for applications that require a higher IP rating and outstanding levels of connectivity. This model is rated to IP65 (shaft IP40) and holds UL certification. It features an OCP cable with a solid M17 plug that can be rotated through 310°.

The compatible CMMT-ST servo drive controller supports multiple fieldbus protocols as standard as well as Safe Torque Off and Safe Stop 1 functions. The controller features an energy management function that can make the most ordinary positioning system more sustainable. For example, it can save energy in battery systems in Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), forklifts or small load carriers. At just 27mm wide and only needing a 24 or 48V DC power supply, the CMMT-ST controller offers a convenient choice for centralised or decentralised architectures.

Festo online selection and configuration tools, such as the Electric Motion Sizing Tool, mean that specifiers can select the right drive package quickly and reliably. Faster and easier commissioning is also possible using Festo’s Automation Suite (FAS) software.

Festo offers a starter kit containing a CMMT-ST controller with multi-protocol function, an EMMT-ST stepper motor and matching motor/encoder cables with OCP technology.
