The latest addition to Sanyo Denki’s Sanmotion family of motion control solutions, the new DB31 Series systems feature a high‑performance stepper motor and driver that ensures precise, repeatable movement within the rated torque range, regardless of load! The motors are vibration‑tested between 10–2000Hz across all axes and feature protective functions such as main‑circuit voltage monitoring, fuse protection, and CPU fault detection.

The driver integrated with the stepper motor supports a range of standard operation commands including, positioning, continuous rotation and homing. Users can quickly configure key parameters such as position, speed, acceleration, and command selection, enabling fast commissioning and easy optimisation.

Technical Highlights.
• Input Voltage/Current: 24 VDC ±10%, 2 A
• Holding torque at initial conditions
• DB31F561S‑50: Min. Holding Torque: 0.14Nm, Size 56mm x 76mm
• DB31F562S-50: Min. Holding Torque: 0.24Nm, Size 56mm x 88mm
• Communication: RS‑485, 38400 bps, up to 16 axes
• I/O:
5 photocoupler inputs (limits, homing, rotation direction, E‑stop)
2 photocoupler outputs (operating and alarm signals)
Smooth movement with S‑Curve acceleration.
To reduce mechanical shock and improve motion smoothness, DB31 Series stepper motors offer two types of S‑curve acceleration/deceleration profiles: A gradual peak acceleration between 25–75% of the cycle that delivers up to 1.25× the acceleration of linear ramps, or an acceleration peak at the 50% midpoint that delivers up to 1.9× the acceleration of conventional linear profiles. The choice of two advanced acceleration modes helps to minimise vibration and stresses during speed transitions.

Space‑saving and wire‑saving design.
According to Robert Davies, Marketing Manager with EAO Ltd, integrating the stepper motor with the driver in a single unit both reduces system complexity and enhances reliability: “As DB31 Series Stepper Motors allow direct connection of limit sensors and homing signals enabling control of power and communication to be achieved with as few as five connections, reducing internal wiring and simplifying equipment design.”

Switch range in Industry 4.0 arena.

New family of capacitive, touch-operated switches are capacitive rugged, bright and configurable.

The trend towards digitisation of Human Machine Interfaces in the industrial sector is leading OEMs to adopt radically new approaches to machinery design and manufacture. At the same time, digitisation is creating an even more intensive working environment for operators of the equipment. Mindful of these requirements EAO Ltd has introduced a new family of capacitive switches that enable new generations of digital machine systems to be intelligently connected via an IO link controller to higher level bus systems or a programmable logic controller (PLC). Targeting new and emerging factory automation applications the new Series 84 IO-Link Touch touch-operated switches are freely configurable, bright and uniquely, jet-wash sealed to IP69K.

According to Robert Davies, Marketing Manager with EAO Ltd., machine manufacturers must overcome demanding challenges in order to fully digitise their designs, not least in terms of system complexity and the enormous investment required: “Thanks to the globally established IO-Link communication interface and programmable connection options, our new Series 84 IO-Link Touch touch-operated switches can be networked via an integrated M12 5-pin screw connection, rendering the equipment Industry 4.0 compliant. Series 84 IO-Link Touch switches require a mounting depth of just 25.8 mm”.

Application-specific yet highly configurable

EAO offers the new Series 84 IO-Link Touch switches in three HMI variants – standard, stainless steel and hygiene – together with a range of application specific actuators and indicators, rendering the new family of switches ideal for a wide range of mechanical engineering applications.

“The many potential uses for Series 84 IO-Link Touch switches centre around their freely selectable configuration capability, which can be precisely aligned to the respective application – from illumination, to symbols, to the switching function”, Davies continued. “For example, the illumination can switch on with a deliberate delay when actuated, and HMI operational readiness can be signalled by green illumination, which changes to yellow when actuated and then to red a few seconds later. The configuration remains stored on the HMI even with no power supplied”.

Innovative RGB LED illumination.
Four lateral illuminated windows integrated into the front frame of Series 84 IO-Link Touch switches ensure excellent visibility of the entire status display. The static or flashing RGB LED illumination is particularly bright and thanks to the integrated ambient light level sensor, is always illuminates at the right intensity for a particular lighting condition. This feature also optimises the HMI’s power consumption as well as LED lifetime. High contrast, optionally illuminated standard or custom symbols combined with their attractive design means the new IO-Link Touch switches are able to visually integrate into any modern application setting.

Food grade pushbuttons.

The popular Series 82 family of pushbutton switches has been expanded by EAO Ltd with the introduction of a new 22mm mount device manufactured in food grade SUS 316L stainless steel and Tritan light-grade plastic.

The new attractively designed illuminated Series 82 pushbutton devices feature TPE overmoulding that is highly resistant to damage from vibration or impact. It also provides the switch mechanism with reliable protection against cleaning agents and environmental contaminants. The chemical resistant Tritan plastic used for the button and lens ensures consistent clarity of the ring illumination.

The new Series 82 switches feature a built-in industry standard M12 connector at the rear of the unit. Connecting any suitable pre-wired M12 cable to this connector makes the new switches all round IP67 compliant.

Advantages of overmoulded Series 82 switches
• Rugged 316L stainless steel switch housing
• High resistance to vibration and impact
• 24VDC ring illuminated versions for status indication
• Durable Tritan plastic illumination ring resistant to cleaning agents
• 24VDC ring illuminated versions ideal for status indication
• All round IP67 protection
• Integrated M12 connector for fast and reliable mounting

According to Robert Davies, Marketing Manager with EAO Ltd., pushbutton HMIs are often exposed to extremely harsh external factors: In the food & beverage industry and medical applications for instance, the actuators in pushbutton HMIs are often suffer from corrosion due to their exposure to harsh cleaning agents, leading to reduced reliability: “Corrosion from alkaline cleaning agents joins other external factors found in in-cab driver/operator controls in special vehicle - hard-to-remove dirt, fine dust, severe vibrations and blunt impact - in shortening the lifetime of pushbutton HMIs”, Davies said. “The TPE overmoulding, 316L stainless-steel and Tritan plastic used in EAO’s new Series 82 switches all but eliminate these risk factors”.

Emergency stop switch selection.

An interactive virtual 3D tool has been developed to assist control panel designers and builders to quickly select the optimum devices for their application from EAO's extensive portfolio of modular E-Stop switches, and easily configure the many features they offer to meet their application specific requirements. The new Emergency Stop Configuration Tool enables users to create more than 2,000 different custom combinations and is available free of charge on their website.

Many devices in EAO’s range of globally certified emergency stop switches feature a modular construction that provide the user with access to more than 130 components and accessories that can be individually assembled and configured to meet application specific requirements, but according to EAO UK marketing manager Robert Davies, the breadth of the EAO E-Stop product range and the flexibility it offers can lead to confusion and uncertainty when users have to decide on the optimum product selection:

“The new 3D configuration tool provides users with access to visualised product features such as mounting hole, illumination and environmental protection rating, which they are able to filter directly according to each technical criterion”, Davies said. CAD data is automatically generated for each selected configuration and the E-Stop can be visualised online as a 3D rendering. Engineers and product designers are able to immediately apply this data to their application criteria, saving them both design effort and time.

“Our new tool offers excellent user friendliness that caters for the diverse requirements of different user categories and their various application requirements. Once spec’d the tool generates the appropriate datasheets and 3D drawings, making the configuration of EAO E-Stops a premium customer experience. It’s a guiding example of the successful digitalisation of our product consulting services”.

Compact axial fan.

A compact axial fan that measures just 40mm by 28mm has been released by EAO Ltd.  It delivers ample airflow and static pressure necessary to cool the latest space-constrained 1U racks typically used today to accommodate high performance servers, switching power supplies and comms. equipment.

Developed by cooling specialist Sanyo Denki the new San Ace 40 12VDC axial fan delivers an airflow rate of up to 37.1 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and a static pressure of 2.300 Pa and easily outperforms the counter-rotating fans designers usually choose to cool modern 1U rack applications.

According to Robert Davies, Marketing Manager with EAO Ltd, the new San Ace 40 axial fan is built with a newly developed impeller and frame construction that delivers higher static pressure, together with proprietary motor, magnet and circuitry innovations that need much less power to operate: “Space inside a 1U rack is becoming increasingly tight at engineers try to squeeze more equipment into the same space,” Davies said. “This results in a high-pressure, high- impedance system that needs a lot of cooling airflow”. The usual cooling approach for 1U rack applications is a counter-rotating fan, but these units are space hungry and can be noisy: “The new San Ace 40 axial fan is half the volume of a counter-rotating alternative, saving 28mm of depth”, continued Davies. “Further, with this fan designers only need to accommodate half the number of fan connectors and half the number of speed sensor inputs”.

The San Ace 40 (model number 9HVA0412P3J001) provides a pulse sensor as standard but sensor-less and lock sensor variants are available. An expected fan life of 53,000 hours at 40oC ensures maintenance-free long-term operation.
