International distributor incentive scheme launched.

As a specialist manufacturer of gas analysis equipment, Signal relies on distributors to service its customers around the world. Managing Director James Clements says: “In recent years, we have expanded our number of global partners, and we are keen to ensure that we help them in every way possible. Equally, they need to be pro-active in their local markets, so we created an ‘Authorised Distributor Scheme’ to give them the tools that they need, and to incentivise positive action.”

Those distributors that sign up for the scheme will become eligible for a range of benefits, some of which are dependent on performance. For example, over a 12-month period each distributor will be assessed and graded into one of three categories: Gold, Silver and Bronze. Those achieving the Gold level will receive a 3% (of annual sales) credit on their account, with those in the Silver level receiving 2% and Bronze 1%.

The distributor evaluation criteria will include: training, either in Britain or in webinars; audits focusing on People, Processes, and Product representation; engagement with customers; commitment to the Signal Group brand, and of course sales.

By joining the scheme Signal’s distributors will unlock a suite of benefits designed to accelerate growth and improve the levels of service in their domestic markets. Enrolled distributors will be listed on the Signal Group website, and be provided with access to regular training webinars, marketing collateral, and priority in service, sales and marketing support.

Summarising the scheme, Signal’s Simon Corrigan says: “The ultimate goal is to deliver the best possible products and services to our global customers. To achieve that we need to ensure that our distributor staff are highly trained and equipped with the latest information on our gas analysis equipment. This will give them confidence to be pro-active in the market and to be able to respond quickly and effectively to customer needs.”

BritishAmerican Business award for analogue technology leader.

Analog Devices has won a 2020 Transatlantic Growth Award from BritishAmerican Business, the trade body which promotes trade between the two countries, in the category of ‘US launch or expansion in the UK’.

The award recognises Analog Devices’ opening in 2019 of a new headquarters building in Hayes, near Heathrow airport, replacing the company’s smaller offices in Surrey and Buckinghamshire. The development of the new HQ was a substantial investment by Boston, Massachusetts-based Analog Devices in the British market.

Analog Devices was one of just five US-based companies to be recognised in the US launch or expansion category. Other winners of Transatlantic Growth Awards in 2020 include ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Diageo and National Grid.

The location of the new Hayes office is an important signal of Analog Devices’ commitment to the Britain. Benefiting from fast links to the centre of London, it brings the company closer to the capital’s workforce, entrepreneurs and technology start-ups, and investment community.

This office also supports collaboration between British employees and customers and Analog Devices’ employees in the Boston head office, which is easily accessible via direct flights from Heathrow to Boston’s Logan international airport. Operating as a hub for global collaboration, the UK HQ facilitates links for British customers with sales offices and design centres across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, in locations such as Munich (D), Paris (F) and Valencia (ES).

Commenting on winning the Transatlantic Growth Award, Mike Britchfield, Analog Devices’ European Vice President of Sales, said: ‘Few US companies in the semiconductor industry have been as established in the UK as long as Analog Devices and the ties between its US home and its UK operation continue to deepen. The opening of a new UK base in 2019, a huge investment by Analog Devices, was made in large part because it will help facilitate the movement of ideas, colleagues, products and solutions between the UK and US, as well as in the wider EMEA region. I’m delighted that the scale of Analog Devices’ commitment to the UK has been reflected in the Transatlantic Growth Award.’

The strength of Analog Devices’ commitment to this market is reflected in the way that the new HQ has been designed, configured and equipped. Featuring a bold, contemporary aesthetic, the office building is decorated with artworks which highlight the building’s previous role as a vinyl record factory producing discs from artists such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. As well as office space for employees, it includes spare workspace for visiting colleagues, training suites, and a generous provision of meeting space for use with customers and partners.

Analog Devices’ intention is for the building to become a destination which British customers, suppliers and partners and colleagues from across the Atlantic will want to return to again and again, once business travel restrictions that are currently in force are lifted.

Good performance last year but unpredictable 2020.

“We bridge the physical distance through digital and emotional proximity.” - Altendorf

Dr Klaus Endress (left), President of the
Supervisory Board of the E+H Group,
and Matthias Altendorf, CEO.
Endress+Hauser performed well across all fields of activity, industries and regions in 2019. The Group created hundreds of new jobs, invested record amounts and improved in the area of sustainability. According to CEO Matthias Altendorf, the family company is thus in a strong position to address the challenges of the corona crisis.

“2019 was a solid year for Endress+Hauser,” emphasized Matthias Altendorf. “Growth was broad-based and balanced.” The group increased net sales by 8.0 percent to 2.652 billion euros, despite a weakening economy. During the annual media conference on financial statements in Basel, the CEO explained that instead of large-scale orders, this growth was driven by smaller and medium-sized projects.

According to the CEO, this success is also tied to the company’s undiminished innovative spirit. In 2019 Endress+Hauser filed 318 patent applications and invested 7.6 percent of sales in research and development. More than 1,100 people are working on new products, solutions and services. By the end of 2019 Endress+Hauser had 14,328 employees worldwide. 400 new jobs have been created within one year.

In 2019, Asia provided strong growth impulses. Europe performed well and South America recorded excellent growth. North America fell behind expectations, however, while the business in Africa and the Middle East declined. China overtook Germany based on sales volume and just trails the US, which continues to be the largest sales market for Endress+Hauser. According to Chief Financial Officer Dr Luc Schultheiss, the Group companies were able to gain market share.

And the future!
Endress+Hauser started 2020 with a further increase in incoming orders. However, the coronavirus pandemic makes it massively more difficult to achieve the original goals. “Although we are still unable to predict the economic impacts of the crisis, we and our customers will certainly feel the effects,” underlined the CEO. The Group responded early to the spread of the virus and used all means at its disposal to protect people’s health and continue to offer customers solid support.

“We bridge the physical distance through digital and emotional proximity,” said Matthias Altendorf. The CEO has been driving digitization at Endress+Hauser for years – in the product and services areas, as well as in customer interaction and internal collaboration. At peak periods, up to 10,000 employees are currently working from home.

Analysers thrive in China.

Gas analyser sales at Signal Group grew during 2019, and the most successful distributor was Beijing Leshi Alliance Tech., the company responsible for sales in China of their FID gas analysers and the new Series 4 suite of analysers. “This is particularly gratifying,” comments Signal MD James Clements, “because several of their staff visited our factory in the UK for training at the beginning of 2019, so it is great to see that they are already starting to make an impact in the market.”

As the exclusive Chinese distributor for these products, Beijing Leshi Alliance Tech. has been particularly successful in the sale of Signal’s portable VOC emissions analyser, the 3010 MINIFID PURE, which employs a flame ionisation detection method for the analysis of hydrocarbons in gaseous emissions from painting and coating operations, as well as from engines and combustion plant, and other processes that utilise solvents.

Lightweight and rugged with an integral heated sample line, the MINIFID is ideal for testing multiple sites or for testing multiple locations at one site. The accuracy and reliability of the instrument is underpinned by a built-in catalytic air purifier, which ensures that readings are not affected by ambient gases. James believes that the portability, reliability and high quality technical support are major factors in driving successful sales in China.

Top connector supplier of 2016.

Crouzet Automatismes awarded its top suppliers of the year during a ceremony held in late 2016. The 2016 awards were given out by Florence Coiffet, Crouzet’s purchasing director, who also presented the results and named SOURIAU as the year’s top connector supplier.

For this first edition of its supplier awards, Crouzet Automatismes set up a scoring system that took into account a number of key parameters: on-time delivery performance (OTDP), product quality (PPM), and a score that rated the quality of each supplier’s technical, commercial, and logistical support. SOURIAU beat all the other suppliers in its category with a final score of 90 out of 100.

Hermetic connectors for aeronautical applications
SOURIAU was awarded for the hermetic version of its Series 851 and 853 circular connectors delivered to Crouzet. These connectors are fitted on 98% of position sensors used by Airbus, Airbus Helicopters, and Turboméca.

Ability to handle a large number of orders and meet delivery times
SOURIAU delivers between 15,000 and 20,000 connectors to Crouzet’s Valence facility each year. Most orders are for 40 to 50 connectors apiece, which requires having a logistics system that is flexible, highly sophisticated, and able to deliver products regularly. The Supplier Logistics and Quality Performance score of 96 out of 100 obtained by SOURIAU for all of 2016 is testament to the efficiency of its logistics department. In addition, the company received an excellent quality score of 87 out of 100 in Q4 2016.

Strive to do even better
“We are extremely proud of being the very first recipients of this connector award. Needless to say, our goal is to sustain this high level of service whilst increasing our market share. And we can achieve this goal because we have the right products,” says Gilles Rémond, key sales account manager for the engine manufacturing and equipment team assigned to Crouzet Automatismes. “We are also going to build partnerships between our R&D teams and those of Crouzet, just like Ms Coiffet wishes.”

Wanted Dead or Alive.

Ashtead Technology is offering a trade-in for old emissions analysers, no matter what their condition or manufacturer. As part of the deal, customers will receive money off a new Testo 350 or Testo 340.

The Testo 350 is an industrial emissions and combustion analyser, capable of measuring up to six gases simultaneously from a selection including O2, CO, COlow, NO, NOlow, SO2, H2S, CO2 and CH. Typical applications include service measurements on industrial engines, compliance testing on gas turbines and efficiency testing for industrial burners. The instrument complies with the MCERTS performance standards for Portable Emission Monitoring Systems (Certificate: Sira MC090159/03) which means that its performance has been tested and verified by a respected third party and can be employed for regulatory compliance monitoring. The Test 340 is a smaller, more economical instrument, capable of measuring up to four gases simultaneously.

Explaining the advantages of upgrading to a new instrument, Ashtead Technology’s Josh Thomas says: “This is a great opportunity to save money on a brand new instrument; there are more sensor options and thanks to a patented automatic dilution function, it is now possible to measure high gas concentrations, with easier application-specific menus and data export via Bluetooth, USB or the Testo Printer.

“Portable instruments are often exposed to a variety of demanding field conditions so with a robust housing and built-in impact protection the Testo 350 is ideal for customers with multiple measurement locations.”

The Testo 350 is available to purchase with a choice of unheated or heated sampling probes and Ashtead’s staff can advise on suitable probes for measurements involving high temperatures, high dust loads or wet flue gas. Rental units are also available with a 335mm Flue Gas Probe (Max Temperature 500°C). Alternatively, there’s an optional 700mm Gas Sampling Probe (Max Temperature 1000°C).

Ashtead’s ‘Dead or Alive’ analyser offer is open until the end of 2016.

Anyone wishing to cash in their old analyser and upgrade to the latest Testo instrument, should   email London@ashtead-technology.com . As Josh says: “It’s worth a quick call; alive or dead, your old analyser could be worth a lot of money!”
