Code reading system!

Vision systems integrator, Olmec-UK Ltd, has launched a versatile, extremely simple to use code reading system for standard and hi-speed character recognition and verification on labels. Originally developed to meet the stringent requirements of the healthcare industry, the self-contained Olmec VP2-CR offers fully validated character recognition, character verification and robust 2D data matrix handling and grading, and can be used for tasks ranging from simple verification through to GS1 and CIP13 conformance.

The VP2-CR is capable of verifying codes whilst simultaneously detecting changing batch code orientation and differing quantities and location of characters on a wide variety of label types, sizes and colours. Auto detection and extraction of the lot code, combined with filtering of background colours allows hundreds of label variants to be reduced to just a few format combinations for easy set-up and measurement. Capable of inspecting labels statically or at high speeds, the system provides a batch report at the completion of each job, supporting production traceability.

A simple, graphical user interface using a touch screen controller allows the system to be set up for any type of label in just 3 menu-driven steps. An embedded electronic user manual further enhances ease of use. Powerful facilities include image storage, statistical counting and batch reporting. Supplied with a full IQ and OQ documentation package, the VP2-CR meets current and future regulatory requirements.

Featuring an integrated camera, light source and touch screen controller in an IP67-rated housing, the scalable VP2-CR is available in different configurations including sliding track for implementation behind the industry’s leading print systems. Remote connectivity allows remote monitoring and diagnostics.
