SIL 1 safe protection for machinery.

CSI 6500 Machinery Health™ Monitor now offers a SIL 1 certified protection system for improving reliability in SIS environments
Operating safety-critical equipment without reliable machinery health insight to issues such as missed or false trips and alarms can keep operations unreliable and increase risk. Emerson Process Management’s CSI 6500 Machinery Health Monitor now has an IEC 61508:2010, Safety Integration Level (SIL) certification, Level 1, making it suitable for use in delivering reliable protection monitoring in such environments as steam and gas turbines in power plants, critical refinery assets, nuclear industry critical assets, and other safety-critical applications.

“While building safety products, it is important to ensure the availability of the whole safety system to keep it in operation for many years,” said Thomas Wewers, director of technology for Emerson’s reliability solutions. “Emerson’s commitment to safety has always been a top priority and as process systems become more and more intricate, built-in safety features are even more important. SIL certification is one more way of showing our customers that we are committed to helping them reduce risk.”

The CSI 6500 provides insight into the health of critical assets with both protection and prediction in a single chassis. The CSI 6500 integrates seamlessly into an overall Safety Instrumented System (SIS), such as Emerson’s DeltaV SIS™, to provide operators information in a format that they are used to seeing on a standard distributed control graphics screen.
