Virtualised platforms highlighted at sports venues in Ireland & England

Roadshow guides Irish and British businesses through availability on virtualised platforms

Leaders from some of the biggest names in industry turned out in force to learn more about maximising uptime in virtualised environments, at a series of events organised by SolutionsPT.

Among the iconic sports venues hosting the road show were(top) Croke Park,
home of Gaelic Games and Old Trafford home of Manchester United FC.
In response to the increasing demand for virtualised environments, SolutionsPT hosted the ‘Availability Virtualised in Automation’ roadshow to address the advantages of virtualisation and how to deal with the challenges these technologies present. Representatives from several household names were among those present to hear how they could still ensure the optimum level of uptime, whilst enjoying the benefits of a virtualised architecture.

The panel of experts gave an overview of the growing trend towards virtualised models, how the industrial IT world had a specific set of needs different from its thin client architecture, and the challenges of running these technologies on the shop floor. This was followed by a practical demonstration of the Stratus technology currently ensuring that some of the world’s biggest companies enjoy 24/7 uptime.

Rob Dinsmore, Product Manager for the hardware division of SolutionsPT, commented; “Manufacturing and utility companies are becoming ever more reliant on the availability of their IT systems and replacing physical infrastructure with virtual machines. We wanted to illustrate how manufacturers can ensure application availability on virtualised platforms in today’s world.

“This technology is already making a huge difference to many operations worldwide. For example, it is currently playing a crucial role ensuring that the deployment and prioritisation of ambulances and other emergency services in Europe are constantly up and running with no risk of downtime. “We thought it was important to share our knowledge with other businesses, and we were amazed at the number of people who attended and the kind of world-renowned, international companies they came from.”

The events were held at prestigious locations across England and Ireland including Manchester United Football Club, Silverstone Race Circuit and Croke Park in Dublin.
