Manufacturing control systems

ISA and O3neida publish Agent-Based Technology Manufacturing Control Systems

ISA’s ongoing publishing partnership with O³neida has produced a new technical publication, Agent-Based Technology Manufacturing Control Systems, Luca Ferrarini and Arndt Lüder, editors.

This practical reference focuses on a new design technology and process specifically conceived for reconfigurable manufacturing system control. It represents the first integrated application in real industrial environments of agent-based technology, ontology-based description and IEC-61499-based automation solutions for production systems. Ideal for practitioners, this guide describes the benefits of new concepts and technologies related to reconfigurable manufacturing systems from a pragmatic, industrial perspective.

Most of the work is devoted to agent-based plant-level control, which is conceived as a generic executor of manufacturing recipes, scheduling rules and production orders.

In partnership with O³neida, this volume is the latest in a series of books on automation technologies that was introduced in 2008 when the first book, IEC 61499 Function Blocks for Embedded and Distributed Control Systems Design, by Dr. Valeriy Vyatkin, was published.
