Combined sensor is a first!

New combined temperature and pressure sensor is another world first for Kistler

With a front diameter of only 1 mm the new Type 6188A combined temperature and pressure sensor is another milestone in miniaturisation of sensors from Kistler Instruments. Designed primarily for precision monitoring of melt temperature and cavity pressure in injection moulding, the new sensor will find many other applications in research, development and manufacturing. As with Kistler’s other combined sensors, the Type K thermocouple is mounted right at the front of the sensor to provide rapid response to temperature changes. The connecting wires to the thermocouple are threaded through the pressure sensor elements, which share the front face of the sensor.

The new combined sensor allows the injection moulding process to be monitored to provide high-level quality assurance and zero rejects, especially when small or precision products are being produced. The documentation of mould cavity pressure and contact temperature provides end users of injection moulded plastic products with reliable reports on the stability of the manufacturing process and the quality of the moulded products.

The cavity pressure curve is the most informative characteristic for monitoring the process and evaluating the quality of the injection moulded part. It is considered to represent the “fingerprint” of moulding. The contact temperature provides additional information for optimising and monitoring the injection moulding process.
