Autonomous mobile robot advances.

New configurations give manufacturers more flexibility to match automation with their environment.

The configuration options for the OL-450S Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) have been expanded by OMRON Robotics and Safety Technologies. The company has added new mast accessories for cart and load carrier transport across production and intralogistics operations.

The OL-450S is now available in a standard no-mast configuration, with optional 1.2 m mid-mast and 1.6 m full-mast accessories. These options give manufacturers and system integrators greater flexibility in how the robot navigates and localises in facilities with varying ceiling heights, traffic patterns, layout constraints, and workflow requirements.

Three configurations. More ways to deploy.
The standard no-mast configuration keeps the OL-450S at its lowest profile while supporting safe, reliable cart transport in compact, height-constrained production spaces. It maintains route flexibility through narrow aisles, low door sections, overhead structures, and areas around fixed production equipment where added height could limit access.

The mid-mast configuration adds elevated scanning for highly dynamic, high-traffic environments where improved localisation and navigation are required, but vertical clearance remains limited. By raising the scanner above floor-level activity, it improves environmental visibility in shared spaces with moving carts, operators, and equipment while preserving access through elevators, doorways, and low overhead structures.

For larger, busier, or more visually complex operations, the full-mast configuration provides the highest scanning position to maximise environmental v6isibility and navigation robustness where height constraints are not a limiting factor. By referencing stable features higher in the environment, it strengthens navigation performance across dynamic production and intralogistics spaces.

Together, these configurations help manufacturers match the OL-450S to specific clearance, traffic, and workflow requirements.

Production-ready by design.
The OL-450S is OMRON’s turnkey AMR solution for cart transport automation, combining a compact footprint, integrated lifting plate, and payload capacity up to 450 kg. With a 108 mm to 308 mm lift range, the robot can move under carts, lift them securely, and support existing material handling workflows with minimal infrastructure changes.

Across all configurations, omni-directional mobility helps the OL-450S move laterally, rotate in place, and maneuver efficiently through changing facility layouts. Natural feature navigation, onboard sensing, and wireless charging support dependable operation with less manual intervention.

For system integrators, the OL-450S also provides flexibility for application-specific cart designs. Its lifting plate can be raised, widened, or, within defined constraints, extended to support different payload dimensions and workflow needs while maintaining safety and stability.

“With the expanded OL 450S configurations, we’re giving customers the flexibility to match the robot to their environment instead of forcing the environment to adapt to the robot,” said Mona Fahimi, Global Product Manager for OL 450S at OMRON.

Centralised fleet management with FLOW Core.
Like all OMRON AMRs, the OL-450S is managed through FLOW Core, OMRON’s fleet management platform. FLOW Core gives users centralised control over robot traffic, task assignment, and fleet coordination from a single interface. The platform supports fleets of up to 100 mobile robots with different payload capacities, while real-time visibility into robot activity and workflows helps teams coordinate transport tasks across the facility.

Expanding how manufacturers deploy automation.
“Manufacturers need automation that works within the realities of their production environment,” said Justin King, Vice President of Product Management, Marketing, and Business Development. “With the expanded OL-450S lineup, they can apply the same cart transport platform across a wider range of facility conditions and workflow demands.” For more information, visit the OL-450S product page or contact OMRON to discuss your application and identify the right approach for your material handling goals.

Ready for EU sustainability rules.

OMRON Electronic Components Europe is scaling product carbon footprint (PCF) reporting across its portfolio, including popular relay and switch lines. The data helps customers strengthen their supply-chain auditing and prepare for forthcoming EU Digital Product Passports.

PCF data is available for a growing number of products, including the G9KB, G6DN, and G9KC relays, and B3SL surface-mount tactile switches, as OMRON continues to calculate data for more products in the portfolio. The rollout strategically prioritises the most popular lines, to maximise early support for customers working towards the EU DPP initiative and other regulations.

The reporting program is one result of the wider DMS Green Project, begun by the OMRON Device & Module Solutions Company (DMS) in Japan to cut environmental impact and CO2 emissions. With the goal of turning sustainability obligations into opportunities to share with partners and customers, the project encompasses energy consumption, product design, manufacturing, and supply chain.

Within the DMS Green Project, OMRON built its own PCF calculator leveraging the principles of ISO 14067, the international standard for carbon-footprint quantification. This calculator is now independently approved, and OMRON is making the tool available to supply-chain partners, assisting industry-wide expansion of product-level carbon reporting and reduction. Depending on the product family, OMRON’s PCF results are either third‑party verified or self‑declared based on ISO 14067 to accelerate data availability.

Among the board-mount relays for which PCF data is now available, the G6DN slim power relays pack 5A switching capability in a 5mm-wide package, featuring ultra-reliable crossbar twin contacts. The G9KB series provides bidirectional switching up to 50A at 600V, while the G9KB-E high-capacity variant handles up to 100A at 800V DC. The G9KC is a 4-pole high-power relay rated for 480V AC at 40A, featuring low contact resistance and a 4.0mm contact gap. Finally, the B3SL series surface-mount tactile switches feature an IP67-rated sealed structure with a rubber plunger, designed for a crisp click feeling with a middle stroke.

These products are in full production and target a wide range of applications, including industrial controls and automation, energy storage systems (ESS), domestic appliances, heat pumps and HVAC systems, EV charging stations, smart buildings, and energy infrastructure. To support customers, either third-party verified PCF data or self-declared, a report for each model is available upon request.

1500V relays.

OMRON Electronic Components Europe is extending its contactor-replacement relay portfolio with the G9KJ to save weight and cost in high-voltage energy storage systems and electric-vehicle fast chargers. With 25A make current and 5A carry (0A break) current, the compact PCB-mount relays have ratings optimized for pre-charging circuits at DC-link voltage up to 1500V.

As pre-charge control switches, the OMRON G9KJ relays divert capacitive inrush currents through a high resistance to relieve stress on components handling the main charging current, including the main contactor, DC link capacitor, and trip protection. With a critical role in preventing nuisance faults or unwanted system resets, and enhancing long‑term reliability of the power stage, G9KJ relays permit greater board integration and faster assembly than traditional contactors.

The 37.2mm x 25.5mm x 17mm type 1A (SPST NO) relays address the growing reliance on high-voltage DC switching capabilities as the energy transition redefines grid infrastructures and life essentials like mobility. Continued integration of renewables in the energy mix is driving demands for efficient, high-capacity energy storage systems at voltages in the 600V-1000V range to ensure grid stability. On the other hand, EVs are tending towards higher vehicle-battery voltages, already reaching 1000-1500V in some vehicles, for faster charging, weight savings, and increased drive power.

The G9KJ relays now deliver an alternative to general-purpose high-voltage parts, letting designers ensure pre-charging circuits are appropriately specified for optimum rating, reliability, cost, and size. With contact resistance of just 100mΩ (max.) and 530mW coil power, the relays support the quest for efficiency and energy-conscious design.

Tiny relays.

Applications include advanced test and measurement

The new G3VM MOSFET relays with tiny footprint, low output capacitance, and fast response, now in production from OMRON Electronic Components, are for designers tackling demanding applications including next-generation test and measurement equipment.

Housed in a 2mm x 1.45mm S-VSON(L) package, and weighing less than 0.01g, the new relays let equipment designers achieve high-density mounting within tight space constraints and form-factor restrictions. With pin-to-pin capacitance as low as 0.6pF, and turn-on/turn-off time as fast as 0.08ms/0.12ms, they can handle high-speed interfacing in automatic test equipment (ATE) and high-speed logic testers. In addition, leakage current of just 1nA helps ensure high measurement accuracy.

Development labs and production facilities operating in technologies like semiconductors, 5G, and autonomous robots are demanding test equipment with more channels, more measurements, faster inspection cycles, and higher frequency range. By introducing the 20V G3VM-21QR and G3VM-21QR1, and 40V G3VM-41QR4, OMRON is empowering test equipment builders to meet their needs.

The type-1a normally open (SPST-NO) relays have the lowest capacitance and resistance in the G3VM series, enabling extremely responsive switching that permits faster measurements and shorter test-cycle times. Their ultra-miniature 4-pin outline, more than 18% smaller than the VSON package, lets designers scale the channel count in new equipment and simplifies replacing mechanical relays with MOSFET relays.

Sockets ease PCB-relay assembly and replacement.

The P6K surface-mount sockets just introduced by OMRON Electronic Components Europe, are specially designed for G6K through-hole PCB relays. The sockets facilitate relay insertion during board assembly and removal for servicing or repair.

This series, with a choice of coil voltage ratings from 3V to 24V DC, are used in industrial machinery, inspection systems, test instruments, office equipment, telecom boards, and security equipment. The compact, 6.5mm × 10mm × 5mm-high, relays offer a selection of packages including the through-hole version with straight pins, as well as two surface-mount options with inside- or outside-facing terminals.

They are used with the through-hole G6K package style and allow easy insertion of the relays, without soldering, during board manufacture. The sockets can be placed on the board and reflowed at the same time as other components using standard surface-mount equipment. The terminals can be soldered to ordinary solder pads, saving PCB complexity and cost by eliminating plated-through holes, as well as streamlining board assembly by saving pin-in-paste, wave soldering, or hand soldering off-line.

If a relay must be replaced while the board is in service, the P6K socket permits rapid removal without desoldering thereby easing repair and quickly restoring operation. Relays can be replaced remotely in the field if necessary, as minimal tooling is required.

The socket design ensures low contact resistance with relay pins when inserted, confirmed as 30mΩ in standard tests. Durability is also ensured, with no resistance increase recorded after 50 insertion/removal cycles. The sockets can handle up to 1A maximum current per contact, with insulation resistance of 1,000MΩ (min. at 500V DC), and operate in ambient temperature from -40°C to 85°C.

High temperature relay.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has launched the G3VM S-VSON(L) MOS FET relay, designed for use in semiconductor test equipment, communication equipment, and test and measurement equipment. The relay is capable of operating at ambient temperatures of up to 125˚C, improving on previous iterations which were limited to ambient temperatures of 110˚C. As a MOS FET relay, the device is voltage-driven, removing the need for input side resistor selection, while freeing up additional board space.

Designers must attempt to fit more components onto each board as applications become smaller and more complex. However, each electronic component generates heat in operation, which can compromise efficiency and reliability. The G3VM relays improved temperature performance permits the design of more densely packed boards. In practice, for testing applications this can allow more tests to be carried out simultaneously, and in a shorter amount of time.

The temperature performance also facilitates smaller application designs, as the G3VM can withstand higher amounts of heat dissipation without losing efficiency. The relay weighs just 0.1 g, and measures 2.0 mm (L) x 1.45 mm (D) x 1.3 mm (H). The G3VM S-VSON(L) is available in four variants with input forward currents ranging from 0.54 mA up to 6.6 mA, and continuous load current ranging from 0.4 A to 1.5 A.

High power PCB relay.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has launched the G7EB-E2 high power PCB relay. The relay is a new, higher capacity variant of the G7EB series, featuring enhanced current carrying and breaking capacity, providing a low footprint and cost-effective yet highly reliable alternative to contactors.

Rated for 150A of continuous carry current and switching current, the G7EB-E2 is suitable for up to 100 kW at 3-phase 400 VAC, 200 kW at 3-phase 800 VAC, and 7 kW at 48 VDC. Suitable applications include photovoltaic (PV) inverters, electric vehicle (EV) chargers and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Crucially, the relay is the exact same dimensions and weight as its predecessor the G7EB-E, providing increased capacity within the same footprint. It has a wide contact gap of 3.6 mm, with an extremely low contact resistance of 5m ohm.

As well as carrying, the G7EB-E2 also breaks at 150A for up to 100 operations at 480 VAC, and 30 operations at 800 VAC. The device is therefore ideal for providing safe and reliable system operations with an emergency stop function, and eliminates the need for other breaking devices, in turn facilitating smaller and lighter product designs with higher power capacity. The relay is available in two coil voltage variations of 12 VDC and 24 VDC.

Compared with similarly rated contactors, the G7EB-E2 is smaller and lighter, providing the potential to free up space within PCB designs by eliminating the need for additional power cables. Simplified PCB designs can also help to streamline and accelerate product manufacturing processes, while its lower cost compared to equivalent contactors can reduce component and unit costs.

In PV inverter applications, the G7EB-E2 can potentially be used to connect and disconnect the main circuit to and from the utility grid. Its contact gap of 3.6 mm is compliant with the requirements of IEC 62109. For industrial UPS, its 50 to 100 kVA outputs can be used to open or close input and output of AC main circuits, reducing the likelihood of failures while improving safety and resilience between grid and load. Alternatively, it can be applied to 48 VDC battery and power supply systems to connect and disconnect safely from the DC supply.

Reducing the power consumption of equipment.

Responding to climate change is an urgent issue, and lowering power consumption further is required in various applications.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has launched the G5Q-HR, the latest addition to the G5Q family of 10A PCB power relays. The new relays can achieve reduced power consumption and heat, and are 45 percent smaller than equivalent 16A relays. For applications which require high inrush current such as lighting controllers, smart plugs, home appliances and power supplies, this can contribute to downsized equipment design, while opening up new printed circuit board configurations.

First launched in 2001, the G5Q series has sold more than 500 million units worldwide. Considered one of the industry’s leading compact power relay products, the G5Q portfolio now boasts a wide range of variants covering many diverse applications, from home appliances to industrial motor loads. In response to customer demand for compact design and improved energy performance for 10A applications, Omron has now expanded its high inrush offering with the addition of the G5Q-HR, which is available in both single stable and latching variants.

As the only device in the G5Q portfolio that meets the TV-8 standard at 10A class, the G5Q-HR compliments the existing high inrush offering, while offering new possibilities for more powerful and compact end product applications. At 20.3 mm (L) x 10.3 mm (W) x 15.8 mm (H), it is Omron’s smallest TV-8 product.

The G5Q-HR is compatible with a wide range of capacitive loads as well as ramp loads of up to AC 120V, Inrush 117A. In accordance with its TV-8 certification, the G5Q-HR has been rigorously tested to last a minimum of 25,000 cycles, ensuring maximum longevity and reliability. The device also meets the UL Electronic Ballast Rating at 3A 277VAC and 5A 277VAC over 6,000 cycles, and meets IEC60669-1 at 3A 250VAC over 5,000 cycles. The G5Q-HR achieves a high inrush current resistance and supports multiple inrush loads. It is compliant with high input load standards exceeding 100A, such as lighting and power supplies.

The latching type (G5Q—U/K-HR) variant achieves extremely low power consumption by maintaining the contact “on” state with only one pulse of current. This reduces coil power consumption by approximately 99.9 percent compared to standard single-side stable relays. As well as reducing the power consumption of the relay itself, this can also help to reduce the amount of heat generated, contributing to greater efficiency and longevity of related components and systems.

Relay allows faster charging.

A new high power PCB relay for use in AC wallboxes for Mode 3 AC EV charging stations ha been launched by Omron Electronic Components Europe. The G9KC relay provides the lowest contact resistance available on the market and produces significantly less load terminal heat rise when in operation compared to equivalent devices. This opens new opportunities for designers and manufacturers of EV chargers to create systems that can charge faster and more efficiently, with a higher reliability and expected lifetime.

As electric vehicles (EVs) grow in popularity, demand for dependable and high-speed EV supply equipment (EVSE) or EV chargers is also rapidly increasing. Improved charging speeds can be achieved by using higher charging currents; however, this requires the use of higher rated electronic components, resulting in the generation of more heat inside the wallbox enclosure.

Higher temperatures within the wallbox can significantly affect charging performance and efficiency and can cause temporary limitations on charging power. Furthermore, increased heat cycles and heat levels can also cause components to wear prematurely and fail. Balancing the increasing amounts of heat dissipated by higher power components, with the desire to reduce overall system footprint, is therefore a major challenge for designers of EV charging infrastructure.

The G9KC relay utilizes an optimized structure which includes a mechanically coupled, double break contact design for demanding AC wallbox and Pedestal Charger designs for use in home, workplace, commercial and industrial settings. Designed and developed to high Japanese standards its aim is to offer an improvement in energy efficiency while reducing heat dissipation. As a result, G9KC contributes effectively towards the overall reduction in operating temperature in a typical 22 kW (max 32 A/Phase) wallbox. This not only facilitates faster, more efficient charging, but also unlocks new possibilities for wallbox designers to develop more compact and robust designs.

The relay’s 4-pole structure means that a single device can replace larger multi-pole Contactors and combinations of 1 and 2 pole, reducing the footprint required. With a guaranteed initial contact resistance of less than 6 mΩ it has the potential to contribute less as a hotspot while improving charging efficiency and performance. The G9KC’s lower operating temperature reduces the likelihood in the number of charge cycles reaching charging current throttling thresholds, while also contributing to improved reliability and longevity of the relays themselves, as well as surrounding components.

Unlike Contactors, the G9KC can be mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB), which can help to facilitate smaller and lighter designs in a variety of products including EVSE/ Chargers, UPS, Grid Interactive and commercial and industrial inverters and converters. G9KC has been approved by safety standard certification authorities of UL/C-UL, TUV and CQC, and has been designed to meet the requirements of IEC 62955 - Residual direct current detecting device (short circuit capability), and IEC 61851-1 - Electric vehicle conductive charging systems, alongside a wide range of other relay safety applicable standards.

Relay range expanded

Omron Electronic Components Europe has further expanded its MOSFET relay line-up to offer higher operating temperature and enhanced capacity in a high-current six-pin DIP format. Omron's new G3VM-63BR and G3VM-63ER extend the company’s 60V DIP6 MOSFET relay range up to 0.7A continuous load current, whilst providing high operating temperatures to 110degC.

Their long endurance MOSFET relays lead the industry in optical semiconductor technology featuring high-speed operation and compact size, thereby overcoming the drawbacks common with mechanical relays. Operating from -40 to 110 deg C, the company’s latest MOSFET relays contribute to MUCH smaller and denser equipment than equivalent mechanical devices. Power consumption on the input is exceptionally low compared to all electromechanical relays, but especially reed relays, further contributing to energy-saving equipment.

Maximum resistance with output ON is typically 0.3Ω (0.1Ω. with connection C), whilst typical capacitance between output terminals is specified as 520pF. Their maximum trigger LED forward current is 2mA, whilst turn ON time and OFF times are 2ms and 3ms respectively.

For factory automation applications, the new models have NC contacts allowing status output to linked devices including power OFF status. The new relays can also be used alongside the NO contact type, enabling switching control of multiple loads with just one input control. The beneficiaries in factory automation include PLCs machine tools, inverters, robot controllers, temperature control together with fire, gas or smoke alarm systems. Further uses for the G3VM-63ER extend to sensor signal transfer and output signal switching - for example with gas detection and similar alarm applications.

The new relays are available now as stick packaging:50 pcs, or tape: 500 pcs packaging (only for SMT type) with a lineup that includes PCB and surface-mount terminals.

Low contact resistance relays.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has expanded its high-power switching capability with the addition of a low contact resistance model for the successful 2 pole contact type G7L-2A-X series relays. With a 6.0mm contact gap, the new G7L-2A-X-SI relay provides low contact resistance of maximum 10mΩ and a rated load of 30A at 600V DC, or 25A at 1000V DC. The G7L-X series conforms to British and IEC solar inverter standards, as well as applicable UL and VDE electrical standards.

Features of their design include an assisting magnetism circuit, to help achieve a very quick switchover. The relay contacts have been specifically designed to handle very high DC loads that are a feature of this application. Contact forms is 2 pole DPST and its 6.0mm contact gap ensures improved safety.

Driven by the trends for higher capacity and increasing heat generation issues, the G7L-X series enables reduced charging time for vehicle charging and offers high capacity for residential energy storage systems and battery storage management.

In comparison with similar level competitive relays, the G7L- 2A- X-SI has a larger contact gap, low contact resistance, and bidirectional switching ability. Capable of 6,000 operations at 600V DC, or 100 operations at 1000V DC, the relays provide higher capacity and low heat generation. The device is compact for a relay with this capacity: it measures just 52.5 x 35.5 x 41.0 mm.
