1500V relays.

OMRON Electronic Components Europe is extending its contactor-replacement relay portfolio with the G9KJ to save weight and cost in high-voltage energy storage systems and electric-vehicle fast chargers. With 25A make current and 5A carry (0A break) current, the compact PCB-mount relays have ratings optimized for pre-charging circuits at DC-link voltage up to 1500V.

As pre-charge control switches, the OMRON G9KJ relays divert capacitive inrush currents through a high resistance to relieve stress on components handling the main charging current, including the main contactor, DC link capacitor, and trip protection. With a critical role in preventing nuisance faults or unwanted system resets, and enhancing long‑term reliability of the power stage, G9KJ relays permit greater board integration and faster assembly than traditional contactors.

The 37.2mm x 25.5mm x 17mm type 1A (SPST NO) relays address the growing reliance on high-voltage DC switching capabilities as the energy transition redefines grid infrastructures and life essentials like mobility. Continued integration of renewables in the energy mix is driving demands for efficient, high-capacity energy storage systems at voltages in the 600V-1000V range to ensure grid stability. On the other hand, EVs are tending towards higher vehicle-battery voltages, already reaching 1000-1500V in some vehicles, for faster charging, weight savings, and increased drive power.

The G9KJ relays now deliver an alternative to general-purpose high-voltage parts, letting designers ensure pre-charging circuits are appropriately specified for optimum rating, reliability, cost, and size. With contact resistance of just 100mΩ (max.) and 530mW coil power, the relays support the quest for efficiency and energy-conscious design.
