High temperature relay.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has launched the G3VM S-VSON(L) MOS FET relay, designed for use in semiconductor test equipment, communication equipment, and test and measurement equipment. The relay is capable of operating at ambient temperatures of up to 125˚C, improving on previous iterations which were limited to ambient temperatures of 110˚C. As a MOS FET relay, the device is voltage-driven, removing the need for input side resistor selection, while freeing up additional board space.

Designers must attempt to fit more components onto each board as applications become smaller and more complex. However, each electronic component generates heat in operation, which can compromise efficiency and reliability. The G3VM relays improved temperature performance permits the design of more densely packed boards. In practice, for testing applications this can allow more tests to be carried out simultaneously, and in a shorter amount of time.

The temperature performance also facilitates smaller application designs, as the G3VM can withstand higher amounts of heat dissipation without losing efficiency. The relay weighs just 0.1 g, and measures 2.0 mm (L) x 1.45 mm (D) x 1.3 mm (H). The G3VM S-VSON(L) is available in four variants with input forward currents ranging from 0.54 mA up to 6.6 mA, and continuous load current ranging from 0.4 A to 1.5 A.

High-density 2 Amp PXI relay module.

Pickering Interfaces has launched a new High-Density 2 Amp PXI Relay Module.

2 Amp PXI Relay Module (model 40-100) – configured with 83 SPDT relays, this Relay Module was originally designed for applications in Aerospace and Defense requiring a higher density 2 Amp alternative to Pickering’s current 52 SPDT Module (model 40-139). This new Relay Module is suitable for applications requiring medium power switching with very high density. It features a 2 Amp current capacity and voltages to 200VDC/140VAC.

Connections for the 40-100 high-density Relay Module are made via a front panel mounted 500-pin SEARAY high-density connector. Pickering also offers standard cabling solutions converting from this high-density connector to more standard interfaces such as D connectors, IDC connectors as well as an unterminated option for ease of use.

Typical uses are found in automotive, aerospace and power cell testing applications.

Adding some “Bite” to industrial automation!

Watchdog Relay, now available from Red Lion Controls, is "the industry’s only rugged hardware-based solution that reliably monitors and provides fail-safe shutdown of processes controlled by RTUs, PLCs and other automation devices". This industrial automation solution helps to proactively protect unmanned processes on a 24/7 basis.

Red Lion’s Watchdog Relay monitors the pulsing output heartbeat of a connected device to add an extra level of safety that helps protect critical processes across industrial environments that include oil, gas, maritime, power and energy. If the heartbeat stops for reasons that may include power surges, extreme weather or device malfunctions, Watchdog’s built-in Form C relay will immediately energize and provide a signal that can be used to safely shut down the process. The signal sent upon loss of control helps to avoid costly damage to materials and equipment.

“Customers need backup safety measures to make sure that if equipment fails, it does so safely,” said Jacob Colegrove, product manager at Red Lion Controls. “Watchdog Relay is a rugged, hardware-based solution, and since there is no software to lock up or fail, it gives an extra level of safety to networks and processes. This is important for environments with valves, pipelines, heavy machinery or other critical items.”

Built to operate in extreme conditions, Watchdog Relay supports temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to 80 degrees Celsius, as well as 5 to 85 percent humidity. It carries Class I, Div II and ATEX hazardous locations certifications, and has been marine and offshore tested and/or verified to meet standards such as DNV No. 2.4, Lloyds and ABS.
