Supporting manufacturing research training!

WEG aims to supply students with a deeper knowledge of Electrical Engineering by providing equipment and services to the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Training Centre.

WEG is supplying the AMRC Training Centre with its products, services and equipment to be used in the training of apprentices and mechanical biased engineering personnel in the discipline of Electrical Engineering.

The AMRC Training Centre is based at the heart of Britain's manufacturing industry. It aims to provide its students with the practical and academic skills that manufacturing companies need to compete globally, from apprenticeship through to doctorate and MBA level. The research centre takes in around 250 people, aged 16 and upwards, each year for advanced apprenticeships lasting three or four years.

WEG will provide products and equipment to the centre in two phases. In the first phase, 14 IE3 three phase motors, inverters and six laptops for programming were supplied and six working surfaces installed. The second phase will involve the installation of motor gearboxes and motor fan units. All of the equipment is to be used towards the training of apprentices and for Electronic Engineering personnel to improve their knowledge and skills.

Working with WEG provides various benefits to the AMRC, for example, WEG has set up a reward scheme in which the ‘maintenance apprentice of the year’ will be sent to one of WEG’s sites to gain an understanding of how electric motors are manufactured and to develop in-depth knowledge of how the technology works.

David Smith, maintenance trainer at the AMRC Training Centre says “the AMRC Training Centre offers a unique opportunity for young people to learn vital industrial skills with the best manufacturers in the region and the world. Through working together with companies like WEG and with the experience of our trainers, we ensure that the AMRC achieves its goals.”

European Marketing Manager for WEG, Marek Lukaszczyk adds: “We’re delighted to have partnered with the ARMC, for the development of tomorrow’s engineers. As technology progresses, it is of paramount importance that the AMRC Training Centre remains at the leading-edge and develops its courses in line with the advancements. One key benefit for the centre is our commitment to replace the WEG equipment on a regular basis in order to ensure it is current, culminating in an up-to-date teaching and learning experience.”
