Cameras for use in extended temperature areas!

In some applications, industrial cameras able to provide excellent images outside conventional temperature ranges make the difference to the viability of a vision solution. Stemmer Imaging has a range of cameras and accessories in its portfolio which are capable of handling temperatures outside the conventional ranges and can offer advice on the best solution for employing vision systems in such conditions.

The temperature range for the deployment of industrial cameras without a special temperature-protection housing generally lies between +5 and + 45 °C. In a number of applications it is this upper limit which presents a problem: temperatures of 50 °C and more often prevail in the vicinity of machines as well as in outdoor applications, which makes the use of cameras with a standard temperature range impossible.

Some manufacturers of cameras such as Teledyne DALSA, AVT and JAI have responded to this problem and developed special cameras which can operate at higher temperatures and many that can also operate at lower temperatures to cover harsh outdoor conditions. These include Teledyne DALSA’s Genie TS Series of area scan cameras and Spyder3 and Piranha4 line scan cameras, the AVT Prosilica GT family and JAI’s Spark and C-Series. With a range of camera performances, and temperature tolerances ranging from as low as -45˚C to as high as 70˚C, the most appropriate camera can be selected for the application

For even more extreme applications, Stemmer supplies a portfolio of special protective housings for cameras with comprehensive accessories such as water or compressed air cooling, ventilation, window heating, sun roof and numerous other options.
