Award for sustainability.

Servomex has been awarded the EcoVadis Gold Rating 2022 for its business sustainability ratings.

Strengths identified for Servomex included its environmental emergency measures in place, specialized treatment and safe disposal of hazardous substances, and communication progression towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

By being measured on its environmental, social, and ethical performance, the new accreditation will instil greater trust in Servomex customers as it will improve the company’s reputation for sustainability.

Solid-state deep cooling thermal management.

First-of-its-kind system enables a new class of solid-state thermal management systems that is currently only possible with bulkier, mechanical alternatives.

DTP Thermoelectrics has been awarded a patent that opens the door for solid-state deep cooling thermal management. The patent is based on theoretical and analytical models that have been validated through the fabrication and characterization of thermoelectric devices that use Distributed Transport Properties (DTP) thermoelectric materials.

Sample tests, using standard protocols, demonstrate significant increases in maximum cooling temperature, efficiency (COP) and cooling power, confirming that DTP devices can cool to lower temperatures, improving performance and functionality. Until now, these capabilities were only possible using much larger and heavier mechanical cooling systems.

“There is no better performing thermoelectric material system than what we have fabricated with our DTP technology,” says Dr. Lon E. Bell, President and CEO. “This mass-producible, proprietary technology increases cooling capacity at efficiencies greater than what is possible with other thermoelectric devices. DTP technology has the potential to improve cooling and thermal management system performance and cost effectiveness in Lidar, infrared sensors, electronics, cold chain storage, medical devices, battery thermal management and vision systems.”

“Our technology has been partially enabled by recent advances in semiconductor material manufacturing,” says Dr. Douglas Crane, Chief Technology Officer. “Using both modifications to available thermoelectric materials and advanced manufacturing technology, we can generate precise performance outputs. By starting with our higher efficiency thermoelectric systems and controlling the relationship between power density and COP that DTP technology enables, we can tailor performance to specific applications.”

The patent for “Thermoelectric Systems Employing Distributed Transport Properties to Increase Cooling and Heating Performance” (number 11,421,919 by the US Patent and Trademark Office) covers DTP technology and its ability to increase cooling and heating performance in solid-state heat pumps.

Electromechanical and electronic sensors added to capability.

YAGEO Corporation has entered into a binding commitment with Schneider Electric to acquire its Telemecanique Sensors business in an all-cash transaction. The proposed transaction values Telemecanique Sensors’ business at an enterprise value of €723 million (approximately US$ 729 million) with an estimated equity value of approximately €686 million (approximately US$ 692 million) assuming customary adjustments at closing and will be financed entirely through existing cash. Schneider Electric will grant YAGEO a license to use the Telemecanique Sensors™ name, and YAGEO will obtain the relevant sensor patents. The proposed transaction was approved by relevant governance bodies from both parties.

With Telemecanique Sensors’ long-term presence on the B2B segment and state-of-the-art product portfolio, YAGEO will be able to further broaden its global relationships with its industrial customers through expansion of its offer of innovative sensing solutions.

The completion of the proposed transaction is expected to occur in the coming months, subject to the receipt of required regulatory approval.

Optimized solution for switchgear manufacturers and electrical planners

Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Eplan have signed a strategic partnership to strengthen collaboration in the area of software solutions for the industry and infrastructure market segments. As part of this agreement, Siemens’ Electrical Products business unit will join the Eplan Partner Network as a strategic partner. The objective is to coordinate the products of both companies in a more targeted manner in order to offer optimized solutions for switchgear manufacturers and electrical planners.

Sebastian Seitz, CEO of Eplan, and Andreas Matthé, CEO of Electrical Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, signed the agreement on September 26, 2022.
“The overall goal of our collaboration is to create a plug-and-play structure for electrical planners. We want to open our tools bidirectionally for both sides and thus simplify and accelerate workflows,” said Andreas Matthé, CEO Siemens Electrical Products

Sebastian Seitz of Eplan has also emphasized the benefits for joint customers: “In switchgear construction, we can use Eplan Pro Panel to optimize processes and automate them to a greater extent. In addition, we will more specifically address the growing area of power distribution and work with Siemens to create end-to-end solutions for integrative, more efficient workflows.”

The industry segment comprises offerings and products for control panel building, while the infrastructure segment includes switchgear construction for power distribution. In the industry market segment, Siemens and Eplan will intensify the excellent cooperation that has existed for many years, for example, to provide Eplan data across all configured Siemens products. For the infrastructure market, Eplan and Siemens have decided to jointly optimize and automate customer processes, for instance in the Sivacon and Alpha environment (power distribution systems) by integrating Simaris (planning tools) and the Eplan platform.

Both parties will contribute their expertise to the benefit of their joint customers to enable more efficient workflows in switchgear construction and power distribution.

Eplan offers engineering software and services in the fields of electrical engineering, automation, and mechatronics. The company develops one of the world's leading software solutions for machine, switchgear, and control panel builders. In addition, it helps customers simplify challenging engineering processes.

Siemens’ Electrical Products offers products for a safe and efficient electrical infrastructure at the low-voltage level in buildings and industrial environments, including safety and control products, measuring and monitoring devices, switches, and sockets. Furthermore, the business unit’s portfolio includes communication-enabled software tools that can be used to connect power distribution products to building and industrial automation, as well as to open cloud-based IoT systems.

Camera for hazardous environments.

The FLIR Cx5 is a new pocket-portable thermal camera for condition monitoring in hazardous environments from Teledyne FLIR. The camera has a rugged ATEX-compliant case, which allows users of this camera to safely monitor electrical or mechanical assets in hot working zones.

Potentially explosive environments, such as oil and gas plants or chemical plants, need to be protected from ignition sources. That’s why electronic devices used in these hot work environments need to comply with ATEX

Product Regulations or similar regulations (e.g. UKEX and IECEx). The 160 x 120-pixel FLIR Cx5 is mounted in a rugged enclosure, which enables users to work confidently while maintaining safety.

“In hazardous environments, it’s critical for surveyors to be able to detect problems fast, so they can react accordingly,” says Michael Deruytter, Sr Director Product Manager at Teledyne FLIR. “The FLIR Cx5 is not only explosion-proof, but it’s also compact and very easy to use. This allows maintenance professionals to always have their camera at hand, find hidden issues quickly and reduce diagnostic time.”

The camera has all the ruggedized features that will enable it to survive the toughest day on the job. The FLIR Cx5 case has shock absorbers and the lens is protected by a Germanium window with anti-reflective coating. The 3.5-inch color display is protected by armored glass and is touchscreen compatible. A rugged lanyard point can be removed in safe environments to reach the data storage and charging port.

It features a FLIR Lepton® thermal imaging sensor and FLIR-patented MSX® (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) technology, which embosses visible scene details onto thermal images. This results in a crisp thermal image, enabling inspectors to pinpoint hidden problems instantly.

FLIR Cx5 is compatible with FLIR Ignite, a secure cloud storage solution that allows users to directly upload, edit, organize and share their images. With all images and videos in one place, sharing data with team members and creating reports for customers is convenient and simple. FLIR Cx5 users can also rely on the FLIR Thermal Studio software to finetune their images and create professional reports.

The FLIR Cx5 will be available for purchase from December (2022) onwards.

Remote passes for wireless gateway.

Remote service passes for its PLUS+1 CS10 wireless gateway have been announced by Danfoss Power Solutions. Remote service passes allow machine technicians to connect remotely to a machine with a CS10 device installed to monitor machine behavior, debug, and update firmware over the air. This reduces machine downtime and eliminates technician travel costs, resulting in high savings potential.

CS10 remote service passes enable technicians to monitor changes in equipment or operation and set alert triggers to notify stakeholders when a change is detected. The passes also enable debugging. Technicians can access the machine’s CAN data bus over a remote connection to diagnose issues. Another capability is faster machine prototyping. Original equipment manufacturers can get a machine into the field sooner with the ability to remotely update firmware and software configurations.

Remote service passes work with Danfoss’ entry-level CS10 wireless gateway. With these passes, it is now possible to get a global connection by connecting the CS10 device to the internet through a local Wi-Fi hotspot. A single pass lasts for 24 hours and provides unlimited data for virtual service sessions from anywhere in the world using the company’s PLUS+1 Service Tool. The pay-per-use model offers flexibility, enabling companies to use a digital service plan as needed rather than pay for a monthly data plan.

The CS10 gateway and remote service passes are part of Danfoss’ PLUS+1 Connect ecosystem, which combines telematics hardware, software infrastructure, and user-friendly interfaces. In addition to the CS10 gateway, Danfoss offers the CS100 and CS500 devices, which offer cellular connectivity. Customizable and scalable, PLUS+1 Connect provides the insights for fleet managers, system integrators, and OEMs to reduce machine downtime, increase efficiency, improve performance, and optimize system design.
