Measuring tyre-rim pressure.

Interface Force Measurements has announced the launch of two new sensors for its tyre pressure monitoring system from XSensor. These sensors are now available in Britain for automotive manufacturers, tyre manufacturers, race teams as well as current users of the X3 PRO system.

XSensor, innovators in pressure imaging, has introduced two new sensors for the automotive industry designed specifically to test the pressure between a tyre and the rim. As an addition to its already renowned tyre pressure mapping system, the addition of bead contact pressure measurement sensors means stress analysis studies of tyres and wheels can now be conducted.

Two sensor options are available. The IX510.3.64.05-10 has been designed for use on car and truck tyres and in field trials has been shown to be highly durable being able to withstand multiple tests in the same position. The IX510.3.128.05-10 is a unique version for very large tyres and rims such as those on mining and agricultural vehicles and XSensor is only company that can supply such a product.

The IX510.3.64.05-10 measure 1.52mmx16.2cm with a 5.08mm x 2.54mm resolution and a pressure range of up to 353N/cm2 (512psi). The 353N/cm2 allows the sensor and software to extrapolate pressure values up to 706N/cm2 (1024psi). The sensor is made from a flex material to provide a rugged sensor exterior as well as a high-resolution image over a limited pressure surface. The information provided shows users the pressures on both the heel and the toe of the rim and two sensors can be used simultaneously to provide information at different intervals along the tyre rim. This sensor has been extensively field-tested and has passed with flying colours.

The longer IX510.3.128.05-10 is a unique sensor for R&D companies who are interested in understanding the bead pressures for new designs of very large tyres. Due to the rims used and the procedure of getting very large tyres onto rims, these sensors are not intended for repeated use. To date, XSensor is the only pressure imaging company that has been able to overcome the difficult testing scenarios and develop a pressure sensor that can accurately measure these bead pressures.

Existing customers will find that both new sensors integrate seamlessly with the current XSensor X3 PRO tyre pressure mapping system and the X3 PRO V7 or V8 software can be used to record and view files.

Inline strain gauge amplifier.

Interface Force Measurements has announced the launch of the ITA-1 (Click-R Clack-R) analogue strain gauge amplifier. This new product is used to convert a sensor’s millivolt signal into an analogue signal for display or data acquisition. This simple, yet innovative product is connected to the sensor in line via a 5-pin, M12 connector.

The ITA-1 can be connected to any force, strain, torque or pressure sensor that supplies a millivolt output signal, either voltage or current. When supplied with an Interface load cell or torque transducer, the ITA-1 comes factory configured to the correct output however, set-up can be modified using the tare and scale cables. It is also TEDS enabled, so enabling easy configuration with TEDS-equipped load cells.

Small transducer takes the pressure!

As part of its GP:50 range of pressure sensors and transmitters for hazardous and harsh environments, Interface Force has announced the Model 188 miniature flush diaphragm pressure transducer. This unique sensor has been developed to fit into restricted spaces, yet offers pressure measurements up to 10,000psi with accuracy to ±0.05%FS.

The Model 188 has been constructed as a single all-welded piece in high performance, rugged stainless steel. Its flush port design eliminates any dead volume making it perfect for high viscosity fluid pressure measurements without any port clogging or plugging. This transducer is ideal for use in the oil and gas industry as well as more diverse applications such as paint and adhesives dispensing,
food processing and sludge and slurry pressure measurement.

As with all sensors in the GP:50 range, the Model 188 is supplied with a NIST traceable calibration certificate and has also been rated for high shock and vibration applications. A number of field options are available including extending the operating temperature range from -54ºC -+121ºC to +177ºC.

Interface Force has a highly qualified and experienced in-house design team ready to help engineers find a solution for their pressure sensing applications.

Are you sitting comfortably?

For advanced and sophisticated seat pressure mapping Interface Force Measurements announce the availability of a new range of systems from XSensor. Incorporating the new LX series of capacitive pressure sensors, these systems provide seating engineers with highly accurate, repeatable and durable testing.

Pressure mapping is increasingly being used in seating design and test, as customers demand more comfort and safety and more options are offered. By providing customised solutions with highly sensitive and accurate sensors, the XSensor pressure mapping systems are an invaluable tool for assessing automotive and aerospace seat designs, ingress/egress testing and manufacturing quality control.

At the heart of the systems is the X3 LX sensor series, a range of pressure sensors that have been proven to be extremely accurate due to high repeatability, low hysteresis and low creep characteristics. What makes these sensors particularly suitable for pressure mapping is that they demonstrate unrivalled durability, conformability and image detail, making the ideal for engineering research and design.

The new LX series provide accurate measurement of the interface’s true pressure by conforming to the topology of the surface and is able to minimise sensor effect, while maintaining spatial integrity – with no compromise to image quality. Cost of ownership is also reduced as the improved calibration stability leads to consistent data over thousands of cycles.

As part of the system, Interface Force offers the latest X3 Pro V7.0 software that focuses on offering more effective process and reporting tools for the test engineer. The new Pro V7 enables users to overlay pressure images on photos or graphics and adjust the pressure image size and positioning to specific h-point references, as well as a host of other features.

Field rangeable pressure sensor.

As part of its GP:50 range of pressure sensors and transmitters for hazardous and harsh environments, Interface Force has announced the Model 1171 field rangeable pressure sensor.

This is a rugged, compact transmitter, the 1171 and has been designed for use in severe weather conditions such as those encountered offshore in the energy and maritime sectors.

Pressure ranges from 50 through 100,000 PSIS, PSIA and PSIV and is 4-20mA loop powered. The external zero, span and calibration controls are hermetically sealed and easily adjusted with the help of a magnetically coupled drive system. One of the main features of the Model 1171 is that it allows for 5:1 ranging of the transmitter’s standard pressure range, so there is no need for a calibrated pressure source.

Completely sealed, the GP:50 Model 1171 is an all welded constructed unit and using 15-5 and 316 stainless steel in the pressure activity means that it is completely watertight and corrosion resistant. For added reliability, the unit is designed without an ‘O’ ring that can be susceptible to wear.

The 1171 series of pressure sensors is offered with many options to meet the exacting requirements of customers’ applications. Interface Force has a highly qualified and experienced in-house design team of engineers ready to help engineers find a solution for their pressure sensing applications.
