A pan-European franchise agreement with BeRex Corp., a leading Korean producer of analog RF and microwave semiconductors has been agreed by Anglia Components. BeRex’s product range includes high quality and cost effective solutions for wireless applications, many of which are drop in alternative to industry standard devices from global semiconductor manufacturers.

John Bowman, Anglia’s Marketing Director remarked, “Anglia is rapidly building a strong and wide portfolio of high quality, cost-effective analog parts from suppliers based around the world. BeRex fits nicely into this programme with devices for radar and wireless communications systems in industrial markets, as well as RFIC front-end modules for IoT devices based on popular protocols and standards.”

Chief technology officer named.

Analog Devices has announced the appointment of Alan Lee to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). In this role, Alan will identify and work to advance the next-generation technologies that will disrupt and shape the semiconductor industry and its markets. He and his team will collaborate closely with ADI customers, universities, research organisations, and other strategic partners to incubate novel technologies and develop the ecosystems to support their market entry.

Formerly with AMD, Alan served as its Head of Research and Advanced Development. While there, his teams developed novel hardware, software, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing technologies and were responsible for many innovations and patents over the past decade. Prior to AMD, Alan was CEO of a privately held company creating technologies for high-frequency trading and quantitative financial analysis. Previously, he developed expertise in large-scale, multinational engineering and technology projects through his work at Intel and IBM.

He has served on the Board of Directors for the Semiconductor Research Corporation and the Board of Trustees for the NSF Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics.

Alan will report directly to ADI’s CEO and replaces ADI’s former CTO, Dan Leibholz, who now serves as ADI’s Senior Vice President, Digital Business Unit.

Semiconductors and electronic components outlook steady in EMEA.

Steady growth for the company in the EMEA market this year is predicted by Mouser Electronics . With over one million parts available to sell, the company has what is considered the widest selection of products worldwide and has broadened its line card by adding more than 170 new manufacturers in the last two years.

Mouser anticipates that key drivers for 2023, including 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, robotics and electric vehicles (EVs), coupled with many applications across the industrial, transportation, communications and data sectors, will continue to accelerate overall consumption and demand for semiconductors and electronic components.

"Supply chains continue to improve, and inventory is a crucial factor for mapping this year's growth," expressed Mark Burr-Lonnon, Senior Vice President of Global Service and EMEA and APAC Business. "Thanks to our unique business model, we are in a strong position with $1.6 billion (USD) in inventory."

While industry forecasts project some levelling out of the market, compared to recent years of steep growth, Mouser expects a good year with roughly 5-10 % revenue growth in the EMEA region, not only in sales but also through product portfolio additions, facilities' expansions, and adding to their roster of 1,200 manufacturer partners. Additionally, Mouser continues to invest in its commitment to deliver best-in-class customer service with its 10 Customer Service Centre branches across EMEA, employing more than 250 staff members.

In 2022, Mouser's EMEA market saw a 30.4% increase in sales, while total global revenue increased by 25%. Key regions include:

Distribution and operations centre expanded.

Anglia Components plc has opened an expanded £2 million (€2.3m) distribution and operations centre in Wisbech (GB), in support of its plan to grow from £100 million (€113.16m)  to £150 million (€170m) annual turnover and beyond. The opening ceremony was attended by Frank Wolinski, Regional Vice President of Channel Sales at STMicroelectronics, one of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers with whom Anglia has worked closely for nearly 25 years.

The major investment has allowed Anglia to expand into an adjoining building at its distribution and operations centre, increasing the floor area from 43,000 sq. ft. to 70,000 sq. ft. The new facility expands the overall inventory storage space by 40%. Anglia has also announced that it is recruiting nearly 30 additional staff and has made major enhancements to employee benefits across its entire business.

Anglia CEO Steve Rawlins explained, "Anglia achieved a compound annual growth rate of 25% over the last two years despite the challenges in the economy and in the tech industry. We've proved our resilience in one of the most difficult markets any of us have experienced. This is because we hold one of the highest inventory levels relative to the size of the business in the industry – and were bold enough to invest further to support our customers through the supply chain challenges. As a privately owned company, we can continue this strategy as we grow. We have scaled up our distribution centre facility to allow us to continue to increase our inventory levels as our business expands." Irish university scholorships named after semiconductor pioneer.

The University of Limerick (UL) and Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) have announced two scholarship programs in honour of Peter Real, ADI’s late chief technology officer (CTO) and UL alumnus. The scholarships will be awarded to students in the United States who are pursuing a PhD and undergraduate degrees at the University of Limerick.

The Peter Real Analog Devices Bernal Fulbright PhD Scholarship will be awarded in partnership with the Bernal Institute at UL and the Fulbright Commission. The scholarship will fund post-graduate PhD research with a focus on scientific, biomedical or ecological disciplines and enable a US citizen to complete a fully funded PhD at UL over a period of four years.

“I am delighted to see that the multinational semiconductor company Analog Devices has decided to further invest in our strong partnership under the prestigious Fulbright scheme, targeting cleantech and health research that is critical for Ireland’s economic recovery,” said Luuk van der Wielen, Director of the Bernal Institute.


The Peter Real Analog Devices Scholarship for undergraduate students, which will award €5,000 each to three students, are merit-based and students who are accepted to UL with top academic grades will be considered. The funds are designed to help support cost-of-living expenses, including room and board. Scholarship funds will be awarded to one student in each of the following categories:

1. A student studying science or engineering
2. A graduate of a Boston, Mass.- area high school in honour of ADI’s global headquarters location
3. A student pursuing a general UL undergraduate degree

“These scholarships will truly benefit the next generation of students who wish to study at UL and broaden their cultural horizons,” said Josephine Page, Director of International Education, UL.

The scholarship program’s namesake, Peter Real, received a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Systems from the University of Limerick (formerly the National Institute for Higher Education) in 1981. Mr. Real enjoyed a successful engineering career including serving as CTO of ADI where he led and defined the company’s technological vision. He held strong ties to both the United States and Ireland, having worked at ADI in both countries. In 2019, Mr. Real was posthumously recognized at the University of Limerick’s Annual Alumni awards for his outstanding contributions to science and technology.

“Peter was an engineering industry giant, holding nine patents and having deep experience across different engineering roles, mentoring many future engineering and business leaders. Throughout his career, Peter nurtured technology development at UL as well as in the United States and advised many research bodies across the globe,” said Martin Cotter, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Digital Marketing at Analog Devices and a close colleague of Mr. Real’s for many years. “When we thought about how to recognize Peter’s contribution to our company and to the industry, it was a natural decision to fund scholarships that represented his personal and professional relationships with the United States, Ireland and the University of Limerick.”
