Pressure sensor meets SIL 2, PL d!

Following intensive testing of its SMO series current-loop output pressure sensors ADZ NAGANO, the leading German industrial sensor manufacturer, has released comprehensive diagnostic information for failure rates, reliability and lifecycle performance that enables users to meet the requirements for functional safety related applications to SIL 2 and PL d.

This SMO series sensor, from Variohm EuroSensor, has a well proven use for high accuracy pressure sensing in mobile hydraulics, automotive and industrial equipment amongst others, and now offers ECU and other safety controlled applications compliance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1 and IEC61508 and several other recognised safety accreditations.

The tests have established low and high diagnostic range values that may be used, with appropriate control evaluation algorithms, to interpret internal failures such as operational and non-operational connection, internal EEPROM and Watchdog errors. Performance values are also available for MTTFd, Failure rate (λF), DC, and CCF as well as specific PL information. An application note covering this data and comprehensive support for functional safety related pressure sensing tasks is available on request from Variohm EuroSensor.

ADZ’s SMO series pressure sensors are available for pressure ranges from 4 to 4000 bar with generous overpressure and burst ratings, and with RT accuracy of ≤ 0.5 % of range according to IEC 61298-2. A wide choice of electrical connection options include Packard, Superseal and AMP as well as cable output. Pressure connections are equally diverse with all common types covered. In addition to the 4…20mA output version adapted for SIL 2, PL d functional safety, the range offers 0..10 VDC and 1…5 VDC output.

The durable and robust SMO series benefits from a stainless steel membrane and semiconductor thin-film sensor. The electronics are fully enclosed in a high strength stainless steel housing with IP67 protection as standard and up to IP69K on request. Shock and vibration and other environmental performance specifications are more than consistent with the high reliability and long life offered by these premium range sensors.
