First drives then motors.

Originally planned as an addition to its gear unit portfolio, NORD now supplies motors in standard and special versions for more than 100 industries. Each year, more than 1 million stand-alone motors leave the NORD Drivesystems production halls worldwide. Originally planned as an addition to its gear unit portfolio, NORD now supplies electric motors in standard and special versions to users in more than 100 industries.

In 1983, NORD Drivesystems started the production of its own motors. Today, quantities top the million mark each year. In three factories, the solution provider for drive technology manufactures asynchronous motors from 0.12 kW to 55 kW, and synchronous motors from 0.5 kW to 11 kW. With standard motors and customer-specific configurations, NORD serves a wide range of industrial requirements. The focus is on two aspects: flexibility and availability.

From continuous operation to explosion protection.
NORD motors can be found in various applications. This includes energy-intensive motors for continuous operation in intralogistics or NXD tupH®-treated smooth motors in wash-down areas in the food industry. Explosion-protected versions according to ATEX, IECEx and HazLoc for conveyor systems in dust or gas atmospheres are also part of the range.

Popular efficiency portfolio.
The efficiency portfolio with motors of efficiency classes IE3 to IE5 is one of the most popular NORD developments. It meets all efficiency regulations of the international target markets. With its IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motor, NORD even surpasses the efficiency specified by the highest defined IE class. For customers who aim to achieve a higher efficiency class in retrofitting, the manufacturer makes it easy: Identical motor dimensions allow users to perform such a change without fundamental mechanical modifications.

Quickly and internationally available.
With factories in Italy, Poland and China, NORD manufactures the standard and special versions at international hubs. Further motor assembly facilities are located in North and South America, India and Australia. This way, the company achieves short delivery times for national and international customer projects. NORD motors are thereby not only quickly available but immediately ready for use. The portfolio comprises motors with international approvals and acceptances. This allows for the worldwide integration of, for example, the asynchronous UNIVERSAL motor and the IE5+ synchronous motor without any significant changes in system and machinery design. This simplifies and speeds up system commissioning.

Quality.
NORD manufactures its motors with great production depth. By using modern production facilities and a quality management certified according to DIN ISO 9001, the company meets its self-imposed quality standards at all locations. They apply to the motors as well as any other drive component from NORD. Whether standard or special solution – they must have a long service life and work reliably.

Data centre reliability.

System-level framework and uptime diagnostic tool.

Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK) has launched Data Center Availability Intelligence - a system to protect users uptime - to help owners, developers and operators secure uptime in the high-density AI era,

As traditional component-level analysis is no longer enough to support complex modern facilities, HBK’s new offer moves the focus to system-level outcomes, helping teams engineer availability during early design phases and actively protect it, post-launch, across the three critical stages of planning, validation and operation.

During planning, users can model power, cooling and network architectures before major capital choices are locked in. Next they can virtually test redundancy, dependencies and maintenance strategies before the go-live date. And in the final stage, they can leverage real-world equipment and monitor data to identify emerging risks, before these cause downtime.

HBK has also introduced Uptime Diagnostic - a targeted, low-barrier evaluation of a single critical system, such as power, cooling or design architecture. This focused engagement provides several advantages including quantified baseline of availability and downtime risk. It provides direct proof on the outcome of planned redundancy strategies – and removes trade-offs between availability, capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating efficiency.

"Understanding individual component reliability is no longer enough; we must look at how the entire system performs together," said Adi Dhora, Principal Consultant at HBK. "Our system-level approach moves teams away from reactive troubleshooting, enabling them to optimise capital costs and target maintenance precisely where it prevents downtime."

HBK’s model, established by the initial diagnostic, easily scales into a live RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) Digital Twin. Powered by the ReliaSoft Asset Performance Framework, the solution connects real-time operational data with engineering models to guide ongoing investment, spares, and maintenance decisions.

Intrinsically safe dew point.

Designed for hydrogen, biomethane and industrial gas infrastructure, the DMP370 delivers continuous dew point monitoring in hazardous locations.

The Vaisala DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument for hazardous locations has just been launched. The new instrument extends Vaisala's proven DRYCAP® dew point technology into hazardous locations. The DMP370 enables continuous, drift-compensated moisture measurement in hydrogen production, renewable and natural gas infrastructure, chemical processing and other industrial applications where combustible gases or dust may be present.

Growing industrial gas markets increase the need for reliable moisture measurement.
According to the International Energy Agency's Global Hydrogen Review 2026, global hydrogen demand surpassed 100 million tonnes already in 2025. Much of this demand comes from industrial processes where gas quality directly affects safety, equipment performance, and operational reliability.

As hydrogen and biomethane production and other decarbonized gas applications expand, reliable moisture measurement is becoming increasingly important across both new and existing gas infrastructure.

Moisture plays a critical role in many gas processes. Excess moisture can compromise fuel cell performance, reduce process efficiency, shorten equipment lifetime, and increase operational risks in gas infrastructure, electrolyzers, and industrial processing facilities. In many of these environments, only equipment certified for hazardous locations may be used.

Existing measurement solutions often require compromises.
Measuring moisture in hazardous locations has traditionally involved trade-offs. Some solutions require additional protective enclosures or introduce installation constraints, depending on the protection concept and application. Other technologies periodically interrupt measurements during regeneration or heating cycles, creating gaps in monitoring data.

The new DMP370 addresses these challenges by combining intrinsic safety with uninterrupted measurement. The solution is enabled by Vaisala's proven DRYCAP® dew point technology and an innovative drift-compensation solution.

In hazardous locations for the first time.
The DMP370 combines Vaisala’s DMP37X probe and HMT370EX transmitter into a single intrinsically safe solution. Intrinsic safety limits the instrument's electrical energy by design, preventing it from becoming an ignition source in explosive atmospheres. The DMP370 measures continuously, combining fast response with long-term stability, providing operators with uninterrupted gas-quality data without measurement gaps.

"As hydrogen and renewable gas projects move from pilot installations to full-scale industrial operations, the need for reliable, continuous gas-quality monitoring is growing. Operators need measurement solutions that support both process performance and safety in hazardous locations," said Antti Heikkilä, Product Line Manager of Industrial Decarbonization at Vaisala. "With the DMP370, we're bringing Vaisala's proven DRYCAP® measurement technology into hazardous locations, enabling continuous dew point measurement in applications where explosion safety is essential."

Automation for sustainable aviation fuel plant.

Automating Europe's first greenfield production facility to help Netherlands meet EU sustainable aviation fuel mandate.

Technip Energies have awarded a contarct to Emerson to provide automation technologies for the SkyNRG sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant – the first dedicated greenfield SAF production facility in Europe. Emerson’s DeltaV™ integrated control and safety system (ICSS) will help ensure safe, reliable start-up and long-term operational performance, while reducing project risk for this first-of-its-kind facility.

“Projects such as SkyNRG’s SAF facility represent the future of energy and sustainable fuels,” said Nathan Pettus, president of Emerson’s process systems and solutions business. “With complex, first-of-a-kind plants, early engineering alignment and a fully integrated automation architecture are key to delivering predictable project outcomes and consistent operational performance over the long term.”

Currently under construction in Delfzijl, the new SAF facility will support the Netherlands’ efforts to meet the EU’s sustainable aviation fuel mandate. Once fully operational in 2028, the facility is expected to produce approximately 100,000 tonnes of SAF annually. The plant will convert residual fats and greases into a sustainable ‘drop-in’ fuel that can be blended with conventional jet fuel without requiring modifications to aircraft or fuelling infrastructure. The project will also support compliance with the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, which requires all jet fuel supplied at EU airports to contain a minimum of 2% SAF from 2025, rising to 70% by 2050.

“Developing Europe’s first dedicated sustainable aviation fuel facility is a major step in scaling SAF production and supporting aviation decarbonisation,” said Bart Rosendaal, site director of DSL-01 at SkyNRG. “Working with experienced partners like Technip Energies and Emerson helps ensure we can deliver a safe, reliable and future-ready plant from day one.”

As a greenfield facility, the plant will be born digital, with advanced automation technologies implemented from the outset to ensure efficient, reliable and safe operations. The ICSS will include Emerson’s DeltaV Distributed Control System and DeltaV Safety Instrumented System, providing process control, safety shutdown, and fire and gas detection. Emerson’s AMS Device Manager plant asset management software will support efficient commissioning and ongoing maintenance by delivering device data, health insights and advanced diagnostics from intelligent field devices.

These systems will manage all process units, including the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids process to produce SAF, an advanced feedstock pre-treatment unit and an on-site hydrogen plant based on Technip Energies’ proprietary high-efficiency steam methane reforming technology. Together, they will provide real-time visibility and stable, consistent operation of the facility, helping to improve reliability and optimise throughput.

Emerson will deliver end-to-end project services, applying modern project management strategies and digital technologies to reduce engineering complexity and optimise operations.
