Automation in the magic kingdom! Greg Hale to address #ISAutowk 2012 in September

Greg B. Hale, chief safety officer and vice president, Worldwide Standards and Auditing, with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts will be the keynote speaker to open ISA Automation Week 2012. The conference is scheduled for 24-27 September 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, USA.

In his address, slated for 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, 25 September, Hale will discuss the automation and technology that make the magic of Disney come alive. He leads a global team of ride design, operations and maintenance professionals that keep Disney on the leading edge of theme-park safety, accessibility for guests with disabilities and technological advancements.

As an inventor and engineer working for the world’s greatest entertainment company, Hale believes everyone should “do what you are passionate about…and be passionate about what you do.”

Hale received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from the University of Mississippi in 1976 and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida. In 1988, he joined Walt Disney World Co. and has held several key positions including director of Facilities and Attractions Regulatory Compliance and director of Ride and Show Engineering. Prior to his present position, he was vice president of Design and Engineering and Regulatory Compliance.

Hale pro-actively participates in national standards committees and has been recognized for his work on accessibility standards for persons with disabilities and for amusement-ride safety standards and training. He is a member of the Amusement Industry Manufacturers and Suppliers International (AIMS) Educational Advisory Board. He has lead safety conferences and workshops throughout the US and in more than 15 countries. In 2010, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) awarded him the Outstanding Service Award, which is the highest honor IAAPA presents to an individual member or an organization.

Additionally, Hale is an active member of the (USA) National Safety Council (NSC) where he serves on the Board of Delegates and is a former Board of Directors member.

Hale served on the U.S. Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board’s Recreation Access Advisory Committee, and he has contributed to numerous innovations and inventions that have advanced accessibility for persons with disabilities. Some of the more recent are handheld captioning for the deaf and audio descriptions for the blind that for the first time provide captioning and audio descriptions on moving rides and attractions. In addition, he is a co-inventor and patent holder for Disney’s FASTPASS®, eliminating long lines at Disney theme park rides and attractions. He holds 19 US and foreign patents.

Hale is also an enthusiastic supporter of the FIRST® Program (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and serves on the FIRST Executive Advisory Board. This program brings students and engineers together to compete in head-to-head science and technology robotics competitions. FIRST reaches thousands of students each year to interest and inspire them in science, math and technology. The Automation Federation and ISA are Alliance Partners with FIRST.

Precision Pressure Test Gauges

The Fluke 700G Series Precision Pressure Test Gauges has been introduced to the market.  These are nine easy to use, rugged and reliable models that deliver highly accurate pressure measurements in the harshest industrial environments, providing pressure testing for virtually any application. The 700G Series models include the 700G04 which measures from -14psi to +15psi (1 bar) with a resolution of 0.001psi, and the 700G31 which measures from -14psi to +10,000psi (690 bar), all models offering a 0.05% total measurement accuracy and NIST traceable calibration. They can log up to 8,493 pressure measurements to memory when used in conjunction with 700G/TRACK software. Two optional test kits provide complete pressure testing solutions.

All these Pressure Test Gauges feature a bright backlit display for easy viewing of data in any environment, a ¼" NPT to ¼" ISO adapter for fast connections, and a rubber holster that protects the gauge and makes them easier to hold. Backed by a 3 year warranty, they can display readings in 18 different units, including kPa. The pressure gauges have an Intrinsically Safe rating of ATEX: II 3 G Ex nA IIB T6 and CSA: Class1, Div 2, Groups A-D for work in areas classified to include explosive gasses.

The Fluke 700G Series offers two optional test kits to provide complete pressure testing solutions. The 700PTPK Pneumatic Test Kit and 700HTPK Hydraulic Test Kit include hand pumps, hoses and adapters, and can be combined with any 700G Series gauge to create complete, portable test systems. Both kits include a hard case to protect the pump and gauge while allowing the gauge to remain connected to the pump.

For users who need to record and analyse pressure measurements over time, for example for leakage testing, Fluke 700G/TRACK logging software allows logging data to be downloaded to a PC. With 700G/TRACK, logging configurations can be downloaded to 700G Series gauges for remote logging events. Those measurements can then be uploaded and displayed on a PC, or exported for further analysis. 700G/TRACK includes a cable for communications to a PC.

Sales team strengthened!

Brennan Industries recently announced two new hires and a promotion in its sales team.

Jeffrey Burnette was promoted to regional sales manager from his previous position of operations manager. Burnette has 35 years of experience in industrial distribution and has been with Brennan Industries for 18 years. He attended Tarrant Community College in Fort Worth, Texas.

Donnie Maz joins Brennan Industries as territory sales manager. He has three years of industry experience in sales. Maz earned his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial and systems engineering from The Ohio State University.

Christopher Mays Sr. joins Brennan Industries as an inside sales representative. He has 13 years of inside sales experience. Mays attended Cuyahoga Community College and Moody Bible Institute. Mays also served in the U.S. Army Individual Ready Reserve for eight years.

Multilingual remote management!

HMS offers customers free access to the Netbiter Argos remote management service, now available in nine languages.
The three elements of the Netbiter solution:
connectivity gateways, secure hosting
and web interface.

The cloud-based Netbiter® remote management solution allows users to monitor and control field equipment such as power generators, wind turbines, tanks and other field applications via an office computer, laptop or smartphone. HMS now offers the online data center, Netbiter Argos, as a free service.

By connecting a Netbiter communication gateway to the desired field equipment, it is possible to immediately log into Netbiter Argos, visualize all parameters of the field installation, and control it remotely.

Furthermore, as of March 2012, Netbiter Argos is available in nine languages: German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese. English and Swedish versions are previously available.

Even easier to get up and running

How Netbiter works:
Netbiter is a complete package for remote management consisting of three main elements: The first is the physical layer: A Netbiter gateway attached to the remote equipment which sends and receives data.

The second is the Netbiter Argos data center that collects and stores the data from the field equipment. This data center offers secure storage of information and enables users to get statistics and reports on the performance of their devices.

The third is secure access to data via an office computer, laptop or smartphone where users see the status of their devices and can monitor and control equipment in a graphical dashboard.
