Signal quality analyser enhanced.

The Variable ISI MU195020A-040/041 option for upgrading the Emphasis function of the Pulse Pattern Generator for the Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A series has been announced by Anritsu. This with the USB Link Training Software MX183000A-PL022 supporting the USB3.0/3.1 Receiver Test.

Increasing mobile data traffic and the spread of cloud services is accelerating the introduction of 100G/200G/400G Ethernet for network interfaces along with PCI Express Gen4 and USB3.1 for bus interfaces. However, the effects of transmission path loss and noise resulting from the faster signals used by these standards and the integration of ICs and modules highlights the importance of stress Rx testing using signal sources with added transmission path loss and noise.

The MP1900A is a high-performance Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) supporting design and testing of high-speed interfaces, such as 100G/200G/400G Ethernet, PCI Express, USB, and Thunderbolt. Using the newly developed Variable ISI option offers easier and more efficient evaluations of high-speed interfaces, backplanes, and cables. In addition, USB Link training supports high-reproducibility measurements of the PHY-layer of USB3.0/3.1 devices by controlling the MP1900A.

With a built-in PPG supporting a 10Tap Emphasis function for testing the effect of transmission path loss plus Jitter and Noise Addition functions, a high-sensitivity BER measurement function, and Link Training function, Anritsu’s MP1900A series is ideal for measuring high-speed interfaces.

The Variable ISI option uses the 10Tap Emphasis function with high and flexible signal controllability to emulate CEI-25G/28G-defined signal path transmission losses which cannot be achieved by utilizing an emphasis function with lower number of taps. In addition, Anritsu’s MP1900A can automatically calculate the Emphasis settings for compensating these losses based on transmission path S-parameter data. With these new capabilities, test signals emulating the transmission path impairments can be generated easily, allowing the impact of transmission path losses on the evaluated device to be evaluated simply without testing various PC boards, helping to cut development costs and time.

USB Link Training is important for measuring USB interfaces; the built-in Link Training function supports transitioning to the device evaluation measurement mode, and when used in combination with the LTSSM Log Analysis, it helps cut times for evaluating USB device receivers and supports cost effective and all in one measurement of high-speed interfaces such as PCI Express, USB, and Thunderbolt.

Top-selling generators extend to two channels!

Aim-TTi have now launched two channel versions of their best-selling TG2511 and TG5011 function/arbitrary/pulse generators.
The new TG2512A and TG5012A have a maximum frequency of 25MHz and 50MHz respectively and represent excellent value for money when compared to purchasing two generators.

Unlike some other two channel generators, both channels provide the full performance and specification, along with entirely independent operation when required.

The graphic LCD can be switched between the two outputs or can be set to show the parameters or waveforms for both channels simultaneously.

The two channels can be operated completely independently as if they were two separate generators. Alternatively the frequencies of the two channels can be coupled such that if frequency of one channel is changed the frequency of the other channel also changes either by a fixed ratio or fixed offset.

Amplitudes (and DC offsets) of the two channels can be coupled such that changing the amplitude and offset on one channel changes the amplitude and offset of both channels.
Outputs of the two channels can be coupled such that switching the output on/off on one channel switches the output on/off of both channels.

When in tracking mode both channels behave as one channel. If inverse tracking is selected, both channel still behave as one channel except that the output of channel 2 is inverted.

The relative phase can be set from -360 degrees to +360 degrees with 0.1 degree resolution. Pressing the ‘align’ key phase synchronises the two channels with the specified phase offset. Either channel can be triggered by the other channel to set up a complex and versatile inter channel trigger scheme.

This unit is cost effective and exceptionally capable, providing solutions to generate and synchronize multiple pulses and triggers for a wide range of applications from simple to complex. This pulse generator will allow users to control their laser, camera or other timing device remotely; it won’t be limited by the length of your USB cable. Director of Sales and Marketing, Will Bomar says of the new unit, “Our Company is proud to be the first to offer wireless technology in the pulse generator industry. We can’t wait to see what applications will benefit from having the ability to work remotely.”

The Sapphire Plus Series Features:
• 5ns delay and width resolution accuracy
• < 50ps RMS Jitter
• Fast Rise Time, < 2ns
• 1ppm oscillator
• Field upgradeable

The Sapphire Plus Series improves on the standard Sapphire Series, offering better performance and more options. The standard Sapphire Series is field upgradeable to the Sapphire Plus, giving customers the added benefit of increased performance or options should their needs change. Quantum Composers states that the new Sapphire Plus timing system will have a period counter; this allows averaging the incoming periods– allowing for better accuracy. The Sapphire Plus adds additional “virtual” channels, effectively doubling the number of channel timers the unit may utilize. One more unique feature is the synchronous update mode, which allows channel width and delays to be adjusted and then updated at once with a single command. The instrument offers a complete set of channel operating modes including continuous, single shot, burst, and duty cycle. These modes combined with external trigger/gate inputs, allow for a full range of complex output waveforms.

50 MHz function generator hits new price point

The new TG5011 from TTi is a combined function/arbitrary/pulse generator with a frequency range covering 1 µHz to 50 MHz. At under £900 (ca €990 this morning!) the generator achieves a new price point below that of competitors’ products offering only 20 MHz or 25 MHz bandwidth.

The generator offers high-purity sine waves with low harmonic distortion and low phase noise over the full frequency range. Square waves have a rise time of below 8 ns with low overshoot giving good wave shape right up to 50 MHz.

The frequency of these waveforms can be set with up to 14 digits and is based on a TCXO (temperature-controlled crystal oscillator) timebase with a stability of one part per million. The high resolution of the direct digital synthesis (DDS) system means that very low frequencies can be set. For example, a frequency of 1 mHz can be set with a resolution of 0.1% and a stability of one part per million.

The instrument incorporates a pulse generator mode which provides a wide range of pulse width and delay independent of period. Pulse period can be set between 2000 seconds and 80 ns (0.5 mHz to 12.5 MHz) and the duty cycle can be as low as one in two billion. Rise and fall times (edge speeds) are also independently variable over a wide range.

Arbitrary waveforms of up to 128k words can be generated at 14 bits vertical resolution and a sampling speed of 125 MS/s. A front-mounted USB port enables external flash memory storage of up to 1000 waveforms. The memory stick also provides a quick and convenient method for transferring waveform files to and from a PC.

Commonly used complex waveforms are provided including sin(x)/x, exponential rise and fall, logarithmic rise and fall, gaussian, lorentz, haversine and cardiac waveforms. The generator comes with Waveform Manager Plus for Windows, enabling complex waveforms to be created using a PC.

The TG5011 offers a comprehensive set of digital modulations including AM, FM, PM, PWM and FSK. The modulation source can be any standard or arbitrary waveform, or any external signal applied to the modulation input.

A wideband noise generator creates gaussian white noise with a high crest factor and a bandwidth of 20 MHz. Noise can be added to any waveform or can be used as a modulating source.

USB and LAN interfaces are provided as standard, the latter conforming with LXI class C (Lan eXtensions for Instrumentation). A GPIB interface is available as an option. All functions of the generator can be controlled from the digital interfaces, and arbitrary waveform data can be transferred via them.

The TG5011 is housed in a highly compact casing with protective buffers and a multi-position stand. With the buffers removed it is half-rack 2U size for rack-mounted applications. Despite its small size it incorporates a 3.6-inch (90 mm) diagonal LCD panel that provides a large amount of text and graphical information simultaneously and offers context-sensitive soft key control.

Programming compatibility with Stanford Research's DG535

Quantum Composers now offers an easy upgrade option for SRS DG535 customers. Customers can now use their existing SRS DG535 programming language when upgrading to Quantum Composers' 9520 series. They now provide SRS Command Set Compatibility as a firmware option. This will aid customers in transitioning their programming software from the DG535 to the more fully featured QC9520.

The majority of these commands function identically to the SRS equivalent instrument capabilities. Several of these capabilities actually extend the functionality and/or the limits of the SRS equivalent capabilities.

The 9520 Series is cost effective, providing solutions to generate and synchronize multiple pulses and triggers for a wide variety of applications from simple to complex.

This series provides up to eight fully independent digitally controlled channels with width, delay, rate, and amplitude control on each output. For automated test sequencing, all common computer interfaces are available such as RS232, USB, GPIB, and Ethernet.

"This new firmware feature will significantly increase the efficiency of migrating from older antiquated equipment to an up-to-date more capable instrument" according to Senior Applications Engineer, Scott Fraser.
