Two wire Coriolis meter.

The Micro Motion 4200 2-wire loop-powered Coriolis transmitter is to a new design that makes it possible to replace existing 2-wire flow devices with minimal effort and without incurring additional power or cabling costs. The device can accommodate the largest line size (4 in) of any 2-wire flow meter on the market and is the only such product to offer an onboard real-time clock for improved diagnostics. The unit is available in a remote-mount option for applications that require the transmitter to be located separately from the sensor.

“Coriolis 2-wire flow meters offer an accurate and repeatable flow and density measurement that can maximise plant efficiency and reduce waste,” said Anthony Gentile, product marketing manager at Emerson Automation Solutions. “By replacing unreliable legacy 2-wire flow meters with Coriolis 2-wire, the existing wiring can be reused, lowering planning, engineering and installation costs.”

The 4200 transmitter provides a viable migration path where Coriolis meters were previously not practical as a 2-wire solution, either due to restrictions on running additional wiring or a lack of power sources. By using existing wires and eliminating the need for AC panels and transformers, the 4200 shortens engineering and planning time and reduces installation safety hazards. The unit is also an ideal solution for greenfield applications where it is necessary to minimise wiring costs without compromising on measurement performance.

The new meter provides highly accurate and repeatable mass flow and density measurements, which enables users to optimise production, improve safety by preventing spill hazards due to overfilling, improve cost allocation and product usage, improve throughput and optimise reaction time. To ensure reliability, the device comes standard with Smart Meter Verification, the only 2-wire Coriolis meter diagnostic tool on the market that checks the structural integrity of the tubes. The data historian, with up to 14 days of storage and a real-time clock, facilitates troubleshooting by time-stamping process data, audit trails and reports. A touch control display provides a simplified user experience and reduces commissioning time. The 4200 is also SIL 2-capable with single use and SIL 3-capable with multiple meters.

Density calibration facilities commissioned in England and the USA.

New facilities provide world’s only liquid density meter calibration at multiple temperature and pressure conditions, ensuring high measurement accuracy to help limit financial and productivity risks

Hot on the heels of announcement of expansions and new facilities in Scotland and Romania comes this news of further developments in the USA and England.

Emerson Process Management has commissioned new ‘state-of-the-art’ liquid density meter calibration facilities in Boulder, Colorado, (USA) and Slough, (GB). These new facilities are purpose-built to support the recently released Micro Motion® Compact Density Meters (CDM). The new calibration facilities offer unique flexibility that enables calibrations at real-world temperatures and pressures that mimic true application conditions, ensuring high accuracy.

In custody transfer, blending and concentration applications, accurate density measurement is critical to limit financial and productivity risks. To ensure high accuracy, meters must be calibrated in environments that closely replicate real-world applications. Emerson’s new liquid density meter calibration stands calibrate density meters at real-world temperatures and pressure conditions that mimic true application environments.

“By rethinking both the meter design and the calibration methodology, Emerson has created an on-line density meter that brings market-leading accuracy to our customers’ applications,” said Andy Dudiak, vice president of Emerson’s Micro Motion business unit.

Emerson’s new facilities have tripled the capacity of the previous density meter calibration facilities, reducing calibration processes from days to hours. Consequently, manufacturing schedules are dramatically reduced, meeting customers’ key requirements for shorter delivery times.

In addition to the innovative new liquid density meter calibration stands, a new gas density calibration facility achieves the same calibration process time reduction – from days to hours.  Built in Slough to support the recently launched Micro Motion Gas Density Meter (GDM), this new calibration facility offers significantly improved re-calibration turnaround times that shorten customer maintenance schedules.

These new facilities are part of Emerson’s global investment in calibration facilities and services. This new capability adds to Emerson’s existing flow calibration network, with primary calibration service centres located in the USA, Brazil, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Romania, the UAE, China, Japan, Singapore and Australia.

Micro Motion raises the standard in online density metering #PAuto

Compact density meter delivers real-world performance in an array of aggressive applications

The Micro Motion Compact Density Meter, a multi-variable density meter designed for the custody transfer metering of crude oil, refined hydrocarbons, alcohols and many aggressive process liquids has been introduced by Emerson.  This meter is the ideal choice for users who confront measurement challenges on a daily basis such as minimising product give-away and reducing gain/loss errors.

Micro Motion Compact Density Meter
This meter raises the standard in online density metering by combining Multivariable Digital technology, a high speed signal processing technology, with an optimised meter design that ensures outstanding performance under varying process and external environments. This is achieved through innovative compensation techniques where the Compact Density Meter measures both the fluid temperature and its own meter case temperature. This information is then used to minimise any measurement errors due to changes in environmental conditions. It is the first online density meter to offer this unique functionality and address this known effect, which allows it to deliver improved measurement performance in the harshest of environments.

Multivariable digital technology further enhances the design of the Compact Density Meter by incorporating the unique feature of fluid flow rate indication. Fluid flow rate indication allows users to have confidence in their density measurement and diagnose installation problems such as product build up or tube blockages prior to significant errors occurring.

The Compact Density Meter provides unparalleled quality assurance that is complemented by two new state-of-the-art global calibration facilities which makes it compact, rugged and reliable. Micro Motion Compact Density Meters are calibrated over a wide range of combined temperatures and pressures to provide a verification of performance under conditions where the meter will actually be used. Every meter calibration is traceable and accredited to ISO17025 and covers both density and temperature measurements, which minimises the need for external field devices. The Compact Density Meter conforms to fiscal and custody transfer industry best practice standards with direct communication to either flow computers or distributed control systems (DCS) supported.

The meter’s transmitter module can output sensor data in four formats simultaneously including: Sensor frequency (time period), 4-20mA, HART® and RS485 Modbus. This allows users to view meter health and performance indicators while using a frequency signal output when it’s connected to a flow computer. Previously unavailable in on-line density meter devices, this new technology provides diagnostic information in critical density measurement applications which can result in significant reductions in maintenance costs and cycle times.

In addition to improvements in availability of meter information, the Compact Density Meter design offers a new diagnostics capability called Known Density Verification. Known Density Verification checks the meter for measurement alarm conditions, sensor integrity and the presence of coating, erosion or corrosion. This functionality allows users to make quality decisions about their meter health and maintenance schedules at the touch of a button, minimising total meter cost of ownership and maximising process measurement up-times.

Coriolis technology reduces maintenance & ensures custody-transfer accuracy

Adria-Wien Pipeline GmbH (AWP) has upgraded custody-transfer measurement on the Adria-Wien pipeline in Austria by replacing existing turbine flowmeters with Micro Motion® ELITE® High Capacity Coriolis flowmeters from Emerson.

Micro Motion flowmeters used to
upgrade measurement systems

or Austrian crude-oil pipeline
AWP is focusing on using the latest technologies in its plants and automation. "Concerns over reliability and maintenance of the turbine meters prompted our upgrade to the latest measurement technology," said Ing. Walter Fellner, Adria-Wien Pipeline GmbH. "We chose Emerson’s Micro Motion ELITE high capacity flowmeters because they are maintenance-free and exceeded our accuracy needs for custody transfer."

The Adria–Wien pipeline carries crude oil from the Transalpine pipeline at the Italian-Austrian border to the Schwechat refinery near Vienna, Austria.

Emerson supplied two Micro Motion ELITE High Capacity flowmeters with MVD™ (multivariable digital) transmitters. The flowmeters were added to the refinery in-feed lines in a parallel arrangement that allowed them to be installed individually without interrupting the flow of crude oil.

Emerson’s Rosemount® 3144P temperature transmitters were also installed to provide accurate line flow temperature measurements, as required by the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) regulations. The temperature data is used to compensate for the effects of temperature on volume flow in custody transfer applications. Data from the Coriolis flowmeters and temperature transmitters is communicated to the existing host system using an RS485 Modbus connection.

To help AWP ensure the accuracy of its custody transfer measurements, the ELITE High Capacity Coriolis flowmeters also feature Emerson’s Smart Meter Verification – an easy-to-use, automatic diagnostic tool that quickly verifies the complete meter performance (sensor, drive and signal processing), without interrupting the flow measurement or process flow. This allows meter performance to be tracked without removing it from the pipeline.

The ELITE High Capacity range includes ten sensor models covering DN150-DN400 (6-16 inch) line sizes. They have flow rates up to 3,265,870 kg/hour, (3,266 tonnes/hour) and density accuracies of ±0.0005 grams per cubic centimetre.

Flowmeters aid shampoo products!

Coriolis flowmeters provide high accuracy results under vacuum conditions in challenging two-phase flow (entrained gas) applications

Unilever has installed six Micro Motion® ELITE® and F-Series Coriolis flowmeters from Emerson Process Management to measure the mass flow of silicone feedstock used to manufacture shampoo products. The flowmeters’ highly accurate mass flow measurements have improved product quality and reduced production time by 10–15 per cent at the Unilever facility in Gebze, Turkey - one of the world’s largest manufacturing plants for detergent, household and personal care products.

A new automatic silicone mixer line for shampoo products is part of a major investment programme by Unilever to meet increased demand for these products, including its Clear®, Clear Cosmo, Dove® and Elidor® brands. The accuracy of the blending process on the mixer line is critically important to the quality of the final products, but after the new mixing line was started, Unilever discovered that the original Coriolis flowmeters (which were not Emerson products) were unable to measure feedstock flow because of entrained gas in the silicone.

To ensure production could continue with the best product quality, Unilever decided to use a process of weigh scales and load cells to replace the unsuccessful flow measurement system. However, the resulting handling, transport and storage of over 7000 barrels of silicone per year increased production time, operating costs, and health and safety risks. Wastage increased because 1–2 per cent of the silicone was left in the empty barrels. The equipment used to handle the barrels also increased plant energy usage and costs. Most importantly, the silicone measurement accuracy from the weigh scales was lower than expected and not sufficient to meet Unilever’s exacting quality standards.

To eliminate the weighing process, Unilever required a highly accurate measurement system based on mass flow. However, the presence of entrained gas in the silicone feedstock used in the blending process made this a challenging application - as demonstrated by the failure of the previous Coriolis meters. This challenge was compounded by the need to operate at a vacuum of -700 mbarg, to help separate bubbles from the silicone and improve the quality of mixing. Unilever evaluated several types of Coriolis flowmeters supplied by various vendors, but the tests were unsuccessful under these extreme operating conditions.

To address these issues, Emerson worked with Unilever to investigate how Micro Motion ELITE Coriolis flowmeters, which were not included in the previous evaluation, would perform in the same conditions. Emerson’s Micro Motion ELITE Coriolis flowmeters feature low-frequency flow sensors that increase flow accuracy in the presence of two-phase flow. MVD (multivariable digital) technology considerably improves the accuracy and stability of the Coriolis signals from the flow sensor. Enhanced signal processing, as well as sensor stability and design, ensures accurate measurements even under entrained gas conditions. Extensive onsite tests proved the performance of the Micro Motion ELITE Coriolis flowmeter.

"Our tests concluded that Micro Motion ELITE Coriolis flowmeters are the only meters that can successfully measure silicone feedstock flow with high density bubbles," said Atilla Bozkaya, Unilever project control and system design engineer. "The meters maintained measurement accuracy despite operating in the -700 mbarg vacuum needed in this application."

Installing the Micro Motion flowmeters enabled Unilever to eliminate the process of weigh scales and load cells, reducing operating costs by 17 per cent. In addition, the reduced handling of the silicone feedstock has reduced health and safety issues and minimized the risk of accidental spills that could damage the environment.

Based on the performance of Emerson’s Coriolis flowmeters, Unilever installed an additional 12 Micro Motion ELITE and F-Series Coriolis flowmeters at Gebze when the capacity of the line was increased with two more mixers. Unilever is also expanding the use of Micro Motion products to other similar harsh applications and locations. For example, a Micro Motion ELITE Coriolis flowmeter was recently installed at a Unilever plant in Nigeria to measure detergent slurry.

Coriolis flowmeters for loading/unloading and fuel dispensing systems

Argosy Technologies has selected Micro Motion® ELITE® Coriolis flowmeters as an integral part of its new unique loading/unloading and fuel dispensing systems. The Micro Motion flowmeters provide accurate, real-time, in-line measurement data, and provide users of the new custody transfer systems with high measurement performance and maintenance free operation, even in demanding operational environments.
Argosy Technologies is using Emerson’s Micro Motion® ELITE® Coriolis meters on a Russian Railroad application
"The highest levels of flow measurement accuracy and reliability are essential for the demanding fiscal applications that our systems support," said Peter Mouler PhD, President, Argosy Technologies. "Emerson’s Coriolis flowmeters are proven within tough environments and ensure that we can offer a world-class solution to our customers."

Argosy Technologies is a leading provider of equipment and technology to some of the largest oil and gas companies in Russia and the CIS. The new Argosy AT Loading/Unloading Systems measure petroleum and liquefied chemicals during bulk discharge and loading for transportation and storage. Argosy has also added the new AT Fuel Dispensing Station for vehicle refuelling at petrol and pumping stations.

"Emerson and Argosy have a longstanding, cooperative relationship that helps us bring new solutions and increased value to customers in Russia and the CIS," said Johan Vanderplaetse, Vice President CIS and Turkey for Emerson Process Management.

Traditionally, volumetric flow measurement has been the standard for these applications in Russia. However, if changing pressures and temperatures are not compensated for, uncertainty is introduced into the final flow total or additional cost is incurred to correct for these errors. Coriolis technology solves these issues by providing real time measurement of mass flow rate, volume flow rate, density, temperature and batch totals – all from a single device.

Both Argosy AT systems utilise highly accurate mass flow measurement data provided by the Micro Motion ELITE (Models CMF 300 and CMF 400) flowmeters. These provide mass and volume measurement of petroleum products with a margin of error of ±0.15% within the working temperature range of -40°C to +50°C. This exceptional accuracy and operating performance in entrained gas conditions makes the custody transfer systems being offered by Argosy Technologies amongst the most accurate available in the market, providing customers with reduced material shrinkage and greater accountability.

Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters can be supplied with a Russian GOST Verification Certificate and are ideally suited to custody transfer applications where high accuracy is required. They have no moving parts, enabling the meters to deliver improved system reliability and increased plant availability. Additionally, Micro Motion meters do not require straight pipe runs or flow conditioning devices, enabling compact and efficient skid-based metering designs.

Flowmeters improve turbine proficiency

Ansaldo Energia is using Micro Motion® Coriolis flowmeters from Emerson Process Management to provide highly accurate measurements of the volumes of air and fuel being used by gas turbines on a test rig at its factory in Genoa (I). The greater measurement accuracy provided by the Micro Motion flowmeters has enabled Ansaldo Energia to increase the performance and generating efficiency of the turbines it produces.

Ansaldo Energia is the largest Italian manufacturer of equipment for power generation. The company manufactures a range of gas turbines with nominal power ratings of 70 MW, 150 MW and 250 MW.

Gas turbines operate at very high temperatures with peaks of around 1200 to 1300ºC. To ensure durability and reliability over time, the turbine blades are cooled with air bled from the compressor which is located upstream of the combustion zone. The removal of this air, which could have been used in the combustion process, reduces the efficiency of the turbine. In order to optimise turbine performance, the smallest amount of air possible should be taken for cooling.

For many years, Ansaldo Energia tested the blades and vanes of its turbines by measuring air flow with calibrated orifices. However, the continuous development of the test procedures and the search for higher performing turbines led to the need for more accurate measurements of the air being used.

Resulting from a close collaboration between Emerson and Ansaldo Energia quality control, Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters are now being used to measure the air cooling flowrate during blade and vane testing to optimise performance.

Ansaldo Energia is also developing the application of Micro Motion flowmeters to measure the gas flowrate of the turbines during performance testing. This innovative use provides increased measurement accuracy and flexibility, as Coriolis technology enables the flowmeters to measure all types of gas and liquid fuels − without needing any further calibration.

Cryogenic fluid custody transfer

Coriolis flowmeters have European, Asian, Australian and U.S. approvals for cryogenic fluids in custody transfer applications

Accurate mass-flow measurement
for Cryostar LNG fuel dispensers
Micro Motion® Coriolis flowmeters from Emerson Process Management are being used by Cryostar in its fuel dispensers for liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vehicles. This company is a leading provider of advanced technologies for LNG applications and they chose the Micro Motion flowmeters not only for their inherent accuracy, but also because regulatory organisations in Europe, Asia, Australia and the U.S. have approved the meters for measuring cryogenic fluids in custody transfer applications.

“When we were designing our fuel dispensers, we looked at various measurement technologies and several potential suppliers,” said Philippe Fauvel of Cryostar. “Emerson’s Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters have all the approvals we need for our growing markets, as well as providing the accurate and reliable data that this fiscal application demands.”
The Cryostar dispenser, which has a 99.5 per cent accuracy, has been approved by the relevant Weights and Measures departments in many world areas to the appropriate standard. These include MID (Europe) and Nederlands Meet Instituut (NMI) for Australia and Asia. Cryostar is also seeking National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) approval for North America.

“This project has been very much a joint development with Emerson,”
continued Fauvel. “Emerson helped with obtaining MID approval, and we used their valuable LNG knowledge and experience to achieve the best possible design – making our dispensers among the most accurate and reliable on the market.”

MID certification means that when Emerson’s compact flowmeters are used as a component of a complete measuring system, such as the Cryostar fuel dispenser, it is not necessary for the dispenser manufacturer to type test and certify the devices – saving both time and money.

The Cryostar dispenser uses a Micro Motion ELITE® CMF100 flowmeter to determine mass flow, eliminating the separate fluid density compensation required by traditional volumetric technologies. This reduces costs and measurement uncertainty while simplifying installation. Additionally, Micro Motion meters do not require straight pipe runs or flow conditioning devices, enabling compact and efficient skid-based metering designs.

Micro Motion meters are ideally suited to cryogenic applications for dispensing LNG fuel to motor vehicles. They have no moving parts, enabling the meters to deliver improved system reliability and increased plant availability. Using Micro Motion Coriolis meters for LNG dispensing provides operators with accurate, real-time, in-line measurement data, while meeting the ATEX safety limitations.

“Emerson’s full range of Coriolis measuring instruments has MID approval for LNG applications,”
said Denis Henrot, Vice President for Emerson’s Micro Motion line in Europe. “This makes our highly accurate Coriolis flowmeters ideally suited to low flow applications such as in fuelling dispensers, in addition to established high flow applications in pipelines, tankers and storage systems.”

Reducing costs, improving quality & reducing waste in paper mill

Cartiere del Garda is using a Micro Motion® density meter from Emerson Process Management to accurately measure the concentration of kaolin and other additives in the coating process at its paper mill on the banks of Lake Garda in Italy. The Micro Motion 7845 Density and Concentration Meter provides highly accurate density measurements under entrained gas conditions.

"The highly accurate measurement of the coating mixture concentration provided by Emerson's Micro Motion density meter means we have been able to discontinue the use of expensive additives,” said Fulvio Prati, instrument manager at Cartiere del Garda. “This has enabled significant annual savings and paper quality is improved."

Cartiere del Garda operates one of the most modern paper mills in Italy, specialising in high quality coated papers. For many years, a Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeter was used to monitor the concentration of the paper coating mixture and this provided reliable and accurate results. However, because the recirculation system on the feeding tank generated entrained air, it was necessary to add expensive additives to the coating mixture to prevent quality problems.

Removing the additives would reduce production costs but would cause up to 20 percent air to be entrained in the coating mixture. The existing Coriolis flowmeter was not designed to provide the same degree of density measurement accuracy under these conditions, so Cartiere del Garda sought an alternative solution. The company needed an on-line, solids concentration measurement of the coating solution, made directly at the film coater machine feed. A minimum accuracy of +/-1 percent of solids was required to guarantee the high quality of the paper being produced and avoid waste caused by out-of-specification batches.

Cartiere del Garda chose a Micro Motion 7845 Density and Concentration Meter for this challenging application. The company specified the advanced electronics, entrained gas version, which is designed to accurately measure density in aerated liquids − providing a final accuracy of better than +/- 0.5 percent with very high stability and repeatability. The 7845 provides a 4-20 mA signal to the control system, related to line density. Density is converted into percentage solids using a formula embedded into the control system.

The Micro Motion 7845 is a straight tube, liquid density meter that uses a vibrating tube to measure density. As the liquid density changes, it affects the vibrating mass of the density meter. The change in vibrating mass then affects the resonant frequency, which is inversely proportional to the density of the process fluid. By monitoring the resonant frequency and applying well-known conversions, the 7845 provides highly accurate in-line density data.

The Micro Motion 7845 Density and Concentration Meter is rugged, reliable, and requires minimum maintenance.  The meter is calibrated in an ISO17025-accredited laboratory, traceable to international standards, and requires no field calibration.

Metering rubberised asphalt

Micro Motion® high temperature ELITE® Coriolis flowmeters enable accurate and reliable measurement of extremely abrasive high temperature, high viscosity fluid

BearCat Pumps of Phoenix, (AZ US) is using Micro Motion ELITE® high temperature Coriolis mass flowmeters  as part of its metering systems for rubberised asphalt, an extremely abrasive, high temperature and high viscosity fluid. The Micro Motion meters enable accurate and reliable measurement of the difficult-to-handle fluid.

“Pumping rubberised asphalt is a very challenging application that combines heat, pressure and an abrasive material,”
said Kevin T. Hill, President, BearCat Pumps. “Our experiences with other technologies have confirmed Micro Motion high temperature Coriolis meters as the best choice, as they consistently deliver the accurate readings our customers demand.”

There are two stages in the rubberised asphalt production process where material is blended and then mixed. Measurement accuracy is critical to ensure the correct blend ratios are maintained. BearCat previously used mechanical gear pumps for flow measurement, but the abrasive asphalt caused wear in the pumps, which allowed measurement accuracy to drift.

The company solved this problem by incorporating a Micro Motion high temperature Coriolis meter into its metering systems, which also include a pump and a relief or bypass valve. At start-up, heat and pressure are applied to the relief valve and sensor allowing the asphalt to circulate. The sensor of the Coriolis meter is heated using heat-jacketed surfaces that are connected to the existing heating circuit and the complete sensor is then wrapped with an insulating cover.

Developed for harsh environments, the Micro Motion meter is suitable for process temperatures up to 350ºC. Its transmitter can be mounted remotely to protect it from the heat, and the sensor can be installed anywhere with no flow conditioning or straight pipe run required. With no moving parts, the Micro Motion flowmeter requires no maintenance or repair.

To ensure accurate measurements are maintained, the Micro Motion ELITE range features in-line meter verification. This capability enables BearCat’s customers to check the sensor tubes and electronics against original factory settings while the meter is in line and the process is flowing,

These features make the Micro Motion ELITE high temperature Coriolis meters especially suited to the harsh operating environments associated with pumping asphalt. Other applications include high temperature processes such as the handling of heavy crude, bitumen, monomers, polymers, wax and cooking oils that are difficult to control and keep below a set temperature limit.

Global accreditation

Internationally recognised accreditation helps process manufacturers ensure product integrity and improves acceptance of exported goods
Emerson expands ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation of global Micro Motion flow production calibration facilities
Emerson Process Management has completed a global network of ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration services. This network makes available ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibrations from the Coriolis production calibration facilities at Emerson’s Micro Motion® U.S. headquarters in Boulder, (CO US), at the Emerson European Flow Centre at Ede (NL), and at Emerson’s Asia Flow Technology Center in Nanjing (CN). These accreditations encompass the patented Micro Motion TSM (Transfer Standard Method) process, which has utilised a network of ISO/IEC 17025 accredited reference meters as its basis for over 7 years.

Throughout the world today, process manufacturers who use flow and density measurement devices are seeking ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for the added assurance that the products they purchase and produce will meet expectations. The confidence in the technical competency of a calibration laboratory with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation improves acceptance of goods exported internationally and can avoid expensive retesting when products reach their final destination.

Accreditation of Emerson’s Micro Motion calibration facilities and procedures are recognition of proven compliance to ISO/IEC 17025:2005, titled “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.” Emerson’s Micro Motion US facility has received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from multiple accrediting bodies, namely: the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), and the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), all independently confirming Emerson’s ability to perform accredited calibration of flowmeters. Similarly, Emerson´s European Flow Centre at Ede, the Netherlands, has ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the internationally recognised Dutch Accreditation Council RvA. The Asia Flow Technology Centre at Nanjing, China accreditation is from the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC-SINGLAS).

“Micro Motion has long demonstrated its commitment to global metrology, working with various national standards institutes in support of their international laboratory testing efforts,”
said Andrew G. Kolbeck, vice president of quality, Emerson Process Management. “Expanding our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation more broadly in the production environment is a natural evolution of our commitment to excellence and determination in providing the world’s best Coriolis measurement technology.”

ISO/IEC 17025:2005 specifies the general requirements for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed using standard methods, non-standard methods, and laboratory-developed methods.

ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation documentation affirms the measurement uncertainty of the calibration facility according to the latest revision of the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM). Calibration uncertainty values at the Micro Motion U.S. facility, with its unique TSM process and primary gravimetric systems, have been established for many years, offering best measurement uncertainties to 0.014%(k=2). This newest ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation includes additional Coriolis product calibration processes with confirmed best measurement uncertainties to 0.014% (Gravimetric) and 0.03% (TSM) for mass flow and 0.08 kg/m3 for density. Best measurement uncertainties in the Netherlands and Nanjing facilities are 0.017% for mass flow and 0.07 kg/m3 for density. All the ISO/IEC 17025 accredited facilities in Boulder, Ede and Nanjing, are also certified to ISO9001:2008 for quality management systems.

Emerson’s global flow calibration facilities are used to calibrate high precision Micro Motion ELITE® Coriolis meters. These meters are frequently used for critical applications and as master meters to calibrate other meters in the field. These facilities employ sophisticated automated calibration systems for precise, reproducible, and efficient results. Flow ranges from 0.01 kg/min up to 27000 kg/min allow accredited calibration of the full range of Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters, fitting up to line sizes of a nominal diameter of 300 mm (12”).
