Closing the gap between automation & IT.

Softing Industrial announced that its dataFEED uaGate SI gateway now also supports the MQTT protocol in addition to OPC-UA, enabling easy and reliable integration of Siemens S7 data into cloud solutions.

Thanks to the MQTT protocol's publisher functionality in the new 1.30 firmware version of its dataFEED uaGate SI, Softing is closing the gap between automation and IT. The gateway to Siemens S7 control systems now also allows easy and secure integration of data into cloud-based IoT and Industrie 4.0 applications. With this move, Softing acknowledges the growing acceptance of MQTT (Message Queue Telemetry Transport) as an IoT standard communication protocol. It is already being natively supported by many respected cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services, IBM Bluemix and Microsoft Azure.

"The dataFEED uaGate SI offers the highest level of security, simple configuration, and low maintenance costs", says Sebastian Schenk, Product Manager at Softing Industrial. "This new version provides mechanical engineers, system integrators and other customers with a flexible and future-proof tool bridging the interface between industrial networks and IT applications."

In addition to the MQTT Publisher functionality, the built-in OPC UA Server allows data to be integrated into ERP, MES or SCADA applications. User authentication, certificate handling and SSL encryption ensure maximum security. The gateway is easy to configure via a web browser and supports icon import directly from SIMATIC STEP 7 and TIA Portal projects. dataFEED uaGate SI is equally suitable for new systems and retrofits in existing systems.

The new firmware version 1.30 is available now for download from the Softing website. Existing customers can upgrade to the new version for free.

Complete redesign improves efficiency of the inspection process!

LMI Technologies (LMI) has just released their  Gocator 4.0 Firmware. The firmware supports the Gocator 3D Smart Sensor product line including displacement, profile, and snapshot sensors. The latest Gocator 4.0 firmware is a complete redesign of the web browser user interface experience that improves the efficiency of the inspection process.

“Driven by market feedback, Gocator 4.0 Firmware has an improved workflow and layout that aligns with common industry practices,” said Chi Ho Ng, Product Group Manager. “Measurement tools are intuitively regrouped by categories for quick setup. Its modern yet sophisticated graphical user interface delivers simpler setup of measurement tools while maintaining advanced capabilities and control. Gocator 4.0 Firmware truly redefines the user experience.”

Major developments to Gocator 4.0 Firmware release includes:

Part Edge Filtering Improves Measurement Accuracy
Gocator 4.0 Firmware has a built-in capability to remove noise around the perimeter and interior of scanned surfaces or parts. Noise filtering increases repeatability and accuracy of 3D measurements by allowing the measurement regions to be placed with precision without any noise interference.

Greater Ability To Handle Part Variations With Flexible Anchoring
With flexible anchoring, measurement results can be used as anchoring sources for other measurements. This feature supports multiple anchoring sources within the same setup. Measurement tools can now be used to solve complex applications with part position and size variations, giving users the flexibility in setting up measurement tools.

Surface Generation Offers Flexibility With Various Setup Options
The new firmware now supports a number of methods to create a surface or a 3D point cloud. This provides greater control and flexibility for supporting common industry scanning methods such as conveyor, web, robotic, and rotational scanning setup.

Improvements To SDK Simplify Software Programming
The SDK is updated to provide cleaner API along with built-in support for multi-sensor systems. Simplified programming for multi-sensor systems greatly reduces software development time.

Compact Protocol Delivers Faster Processing Speed
The new Gocator Ethernet (TCP/IP) protocol reduces overhead and makes data parsing much easier. Reduced network bandwidth and data processing requirements allow applications to run faster on the same hardware.

Data loggers' firmware upgrade now available

MadgeTech has released a firmware upgrade for the TC101A and ETR101A data loggers. This upgrade enhances the devices to address the needs brought to MadgeTech by customers.

The firmware upgrade provides:
• Trigger setting capability: Program the data logger to only record temperature above a certain degree. No more analyzing unnecessary data!
• An LED alarm: Program the data logger to activate an LED alarm after it has recorded data for a user specified period of time!

These features are now included in all new ETR101A and TC101A data loggers shipping today. The firmware upgrade is FREE, and easy to install from a PC. Simply log onto their website , and select Firmware Upgrades from the Downloads menu. Click on the ETR101A Firmware Upgrade, and download the .zip file. Follow the instructions provided in the Installation Tech Note to upgrade each device.

The new firmware revision requires MadgeTech Software 2.05 or higher. The software can be downloaded FREE from the MadgeTech website.
