Diagnosing your electronics issues.

Connector Clinic is a free remote diagnosis service designed to support engineers and companies that are facing interface, pinpoint, wiring, assembly and interconnect challenges just launched by Inelco Hunter.

This service gives engineers quick, practical guidance on issues such as sourcing alternatives, pin-out matching, environment sealing, continuity concerns and compliance considerations. Drawings, photos or a brief description of the problem can be submitted for a brief review with the Inelco Hunter team. The service supports interconnect challenges across industrial, high power and high current, EV, and harsh environment applications where connector selection or integration can slow development. Support includes reviewing likely failure modes, assessing materials and standards suitability, and highlighting practical options for moving forward.

“Engineers often need quick, informed guidance when interconnect issues arise,” says David Bushnell, Inelco Hunter MD. “The Connector Clinic provides fast, focused support based on proven solutions from Amphenol Ltd, LTW and Anytek portfolios, as well as other compatible technologies where appropriate.”

The Connector Clinic is a brand-neutral specialist service, designed for engineers working with a wide range of connector technologies, including those looking for alternatives to their current solution. The aim is to give engineers a clearer understanding of the issues and options available.

Open to OEMs, design houses and engineering teams working on new or existing designs, upgrades or troubleshooting tasks. Sessions can be booked by contacting Inelco Hunter directly.

COVID19 Laboratory testing

The Covid-19 Test Laboratory, BioGrad Diagnostics, has adopted Autoscribe's Matrix Gemini as its Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). BioGrad manages client and sample data within the LIMS, driving automation and efficiency.

BioGrad Diagnostics is a rapidly expanding diagnostics laboratory in Britain focused on fast turn-around COVID-19 samples. In a short period BioGrad has built a reputation for rapid, accurate Antigen and PCR testing, analyzing ever larger numbers of home test kits posted directly to its laboratory. It has also opened several satellite collection sites including Manchester, Warrington, and Liverpool, offering supervised Pre-Travel, Day 2, Day 8, and Test to Release testing services for British travelers and international travelers coming to the territory. In addition, BioGrad also offers workplace testing for businesses, schools, and events, ensuring a safe working environment for all. To demonstrate its commitment to quality it has become a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited laboratory.

To cope with the increasing volume of samples due to the SARS-COV-2 epidemic BioGrad chose to replace its old management system with Matrix Gemini LIMS. The new LIMS provides the flexibility to capture the data it was required to, and to report that data to Public Health England (PHE) for test and trace purposes. Certificates of Analysis are also created for clients to support the various types of testing offered for the market, including Fit-to-fly, Day2, Day 8 and Test-to-Release.

A study on this project has been published and is available on their site here: Covid-19 Testing Laboratory Benefits from Flexibility of Matrix Gemini LIMS.

“A big thank you to Autoscribe’s technical services team who were always available and very responsive. It ensured the project progressed quickly to completion”, said Biograd Diagnostics’ Chief Scientific Officer. “The LIMS has dramatically improved our efficiency by automating many of the manual and tedious processes in our operations. Autoscribe’s open, collaborative approach was very refreshing.”

BioGrad Diagnostics values the flexibility and configurable nature of Matrix Gemini LIMS. They have been able to quickly adapt workflows, especially around the import/export of data, and configure the LIMS to suit the changing requirements. LIMS flexibility has been especially valuable in a young industry such as COVID-19 diagnostic testing. Rapid growth and changes to regulatory reporting mechanisms have required constant adaption of working practices.

Diagnostics and commissioning networks.

Softing has introduced an enhanced version of the proven PROFINET commissioning and diagnostics tool Analyzer IE. The new version is called Analyzer PRO and allows the measurement of passive parameters that give a more detailed insight into the PROFINET network.

As an enhanced version of the commissioning and diagnostics tool Analyzer IE, Analyzer PRO includes a TAP (Terminal Access Point) device called “profiTap”. profiTap records network communication such as jitter, load ratio and device update rate. These so-called passive parameters cannot be determined via actively communicating to devices. With the help of profiTap, all packets traveling to and from the controller are analyzed and network communication is recorded. Eventually, the parameters are integrated in the acceptance report and add an additional layer of information which provides more detailed insights into the PROFINET network.

Analyzer PRO is the combination of Softing’s products TH SCOPE software and TH LINK PC. It monitors and diagnoses the health of industrial networks so that field devices continue to communicate with PLCs which would otherwise cause plant downtime or outages. The generated acceptance reports correspond to the recommendations of the "PROFINET Commissioning Guideline" from PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI). Analyzer PRO is tailored to the needs of maintenance and production operations and requires no IT or network expertise on the part of the user. In addition to the PROFINET standard, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and PROFIBUS are also supported.

Building diagnostics

Fluke has introduced a new entry-level Fluke TiS Thermal Imaging Scanner for Building Diagnostics. "Now Fluke quality, durability and performance are available in a thermal imager engineered for the value-conscious building professional." Specifically designed for building and home inspectors, electricians, energy auditors, HVAC/R professionals, insulators, roofers and window installers, the Fluke TiS is the perfect tool to identify hidden issues, find moisture intrusion, detect energy losses or missing insulation, spot overheating in electrical components, identify leaking ductwork, inspect steam traps and check compressors, motors and pumps.

The Fluke TiS Building Diagnostic Thermal Imaging Scanner is the top-performing imager in its price class. It has the highest resolution (120x120) in its price class and the largest display size, 3.6", which is 30% larger than comparable imagers. And it is the only imager in its class with versatile manual focus. The award winning design includes a three-button menu designed for intuitive operation and navigation. The rugged Fluke TiS Thermal Scanner is tested to withstand a drop of 2 metres, and is IP54 rated to withstand water and dust.

With a widescreen, full color LCD display and increased thermal sensitivity, the Fluke TiS Building Diagnostic Scanner is designed for applications including:
  • Weathering and Energy Audits: Increase the thermal efficiency of a home or building by scanning for thermal heat loss, air infiltration or exfiltration, or air delivery problems.
  • Roofing Surveys: Detect wet areas in roofing systems quickly and efficiently to
  • Moisture/Restoration: Accurately detect moisture issues located behind exterior and interior walls, in ceilings or under carpet-covered floors.
  • Mould Remediation: Control mould by finding unknown sources of moisture.
  • Electrical Inspection: Detect overheated components in circuits, switch panels, motors, pumps and more.
  • HVAC Inspection: Identify leaking ductwork, inspect steam traps and check compressors, motors and pumps.
