Industry forum for Amsterdam next month!

ARC Advisory Group will host its European Industry Forum (EIF) in Amsterdam (NL) during March 4-5, 2015. 

The European Industry Forum is part of ARC’s successful series of worldwide conferences in the USA, India, China, and Japan. The European forum builds on the ARC Process Management Academy (PMA) broadening the scope to cover a larger variety of current topics from the process, hybrid, and discrete industries alike.

With its substantial experience, ARC unites all experts at one place.  End users and solution providers come together in Amsterdam to network with other automation experts to exchange ideas and to discuss experiences and needs.

At the two-day forum participants will be invited to attend a series of exclusive plenary and breakout sessions. In these sessions, ARC analysts and other automation experts will analyze trends and drivers in manufacturing and tell the inside story of successful operations and applications.

Among others the forum will be joined by experts from Siemens, The Dow Chemical Company, NOVARTIS, BSI, ISA, OPC Foundation and MESA. ARC Advisory Group will present its ARC market trends and outlook 2015 – 2025. In addition to industry-specific automation questions and information technologies, the conference takes a holistic look at current issues that keep producers and automation suppliers busy.

Furthermore ARC’s European Industry Forum features dedicated workshops, offering ample opportunity to learn and discuss about trends and developments and to lay the foundation for changes that can benefit all stakeholders.

Prior to Moog Components Group, Paul was Sales Director, EMEA & APAC, for two divisions of the Danaher Corporation - Gems Sensors & Controls and West Control Solutions. He holds an M.Eng. Mechanical Engineering from The University of Hertfordshire (GB) and an MBA from The University of Leicester (GB).

Aspiration smoke detection applications guide!

Choosing the right fire detection method for a specific environment can have wide-reaching benefits not only in terms of the level of protection provided but also economic advantages such as reduced downtime and improved maintenance.
Aspiration Smoke Detection (ASD) – where air is drawn through sampling holes in a pipe network for smoke particulate analysis – has become one of the premier detection methods in challenging applications, due to its adaptability for diverse applications.

Small but perfectly formed for measuring pressure!

The new Type 9215A miniature force sensor from Kistler Instruments is only 23.3mm long and 6.0mm diameter and weighs only 2.5g making it ideal for both laboratory and industrial applications where space is at a premium. This highly sensitive, piezoelectric force sensor is suitable for measuring quasi-static and dynamic tensile and compression forces from 1mN to 200N in three calibrated ranges. The sensor has a sealed DIN 1.4542 stainless steel body with an M5x0.5 external mounting thread and an M2 tapped bore for force input.

The highly sensitive measuring element fitted under low preload gives the sensor very high rigidity with simultaneously low sensitivity to transverse force and acceleration over the -50°C to +180°C operating temperature range. The versatility offered by the three measuring ranges, 2N, 20N and 200N, and the low force sensitivity make the new sensor exceptionally suited to a wide range of applications in product testing and for highly sensitive force measurements in research and development. Typical applications include:

Contact force measurement on keys, switches, relays and similar components.

  • Measurement of spring characteristics
  • Measurement of electrical connector contacts extraction forces
  • Construction of highly sensitive miniature force plates for wind tunnel measurements.

The sensor comes with a force introducing cap and a fork wrench as standard whilst connecting cables from 1m to 10m are available options. With the cable connected and the O-ring correctly fitted in the cable connector, the plug connection is splash proof to IP65.

Housing offers versatile mounting possibilities!

Harting has introduced a new angled Han® 3A housing panel mount with a square mounting flange that permits attachment in either a vertical or horizontal configuration in conjunction with the identical panel cutout. As a result, the cable outlet direction can be adapted in an extremely flexible manner.

Featuring M25 cable entry, the new metal hood is the first of its kind to offer the capability to use cables with larger diameters: up to 25% larger than existing solutions.

The ability to use larger-diameter cables is particularly appropriate for systems featuring inserts from Harting's recently introduced Han® Q series, such as the Han® Q3/0, Han Q4/0 and Han® QHD, which require a wider cable entry.

The new hood is compatible with all existing Han® 3A contact inserts, and meets the requirements of IP 65/67. The recessed flange seal also guarantees optimal electrical contact between the connector housing and motors or other connected equipment, and features excellent EMC characteristics.

Intelligent cooling concept!

This is an interesting product for Aavid Thermalloy. It is an intelligent, innovative, high performance Liquid Cooling System which aims to replace existing air cooled systems. The company claims "HydroSink™ is the most efficient and convenient solution for medium and high power electronics!"

Three advantages
It drastically reduces the cost in comparison to traditional air cooling systems. This is the result of the three main advantages that it provides: compactness, high-reliability and optimised thermal performance.

First of all, it is very compact. Its largest component is the heat exchanger which includes a smaller fan compared to other market solutions.
