Manufacturer of critical instrumentation protection strengthens service in Europe.

AMETEK O’Brien has announced the establishment of a new manufacturing facility in Subotica, Serbia. The facility will serve as a regional production hub supporting industrial projects across Europe, a strategic market priority, with expanded reach into adjacent markets.

Scheduled to be fully operational in April 2026, the new facility will manufacture a broad portfolio of O’Brien solutions, including TracePak® and StackPak® heat‑traced tubing bundles, non‑traced tubing bundles, as well as GRP instrument enclosures (Vipak®) and GRP sunshades. Localised production enables closer alignment with regional requirements while maintaining O’Brien’s global standards for quality and performance.

For project-driven customers, European manufacturing directly addresses challenges associated with long transatlantic supply chains—such as extended lead times, freight volatility, and limited flexibility late in the project lifecycle. By producing closer to execution, AMETEK O’Brien improves schedule certainty, reduces logistics complexity, and increases responsiveness to engineering changes, project phasing, and site‑specific requirements.

“Customer expectations for regional manufacturing and predictable delivery have fundamentally changed,” said Nikhil Chaube, DVP BU Manager of TPM. “This investment reflects strong demand for European‑based production that supports faster project execution, better coordination, and reduced supply‑chain risk. This facility gives us the scale and proximity needed to meet those expectations.”

Beyond manufacturing, the facility strengthens regional sales and technical collaboration, improving day‑to‑day coordination with engineering and procurement teams and enabling faster response aligned with European standards, approvals, and installation practices.

While Europe is the primary focus, the new location also supports select projects in nearby regions through established European logistics corridors and certification frameworks, reinforcing AMETEK O’Brien’s role as a long‑term partner for geographically complex projects with heat‑traced tubing bundles, instrument enclosures, and engineered winterisation systems.

Imaging in Serbia.

IDS Imaging Development Systems has been represented in Serbia with its own subsidiary since July of this year. Based in Novi Sad, Serbia's second largest city and considered the country's technological centre, the pure development unit is closely linked to the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the local university. This leading manufacturer of digital industrial cameras is thus intensifying its cooperation with science and research – especially in the field of artificial intelligence.

Prof. Rastislav Struharik,
head of IDS Serbia
"We are a company with a strong focus on development and are constantly coming up with new products and new technologies. In order to gain access to these new technologies, contact with science is particularly important. This is where we get the knowledge for our innovative products," Jürgen Hartmann, founder and owner of IDS, explains the step.

The company's investment in the branch demonstrates the strategic importance of IDS in addressing the topic of artificial intelligence. "The topic of artificial intelligence will change our market in the long term," says IDS Managing Director Jan Hartmann. Together with Alexander Lewinsky, he is also the Managing Director of the new IDS Imaging Development Systems Serbia d.o.o. Professor Rastislav Struharik is responsible for the management on site. His team consists of specialists from the corresponding faculty of the University of Novi Sad. This is the first foreign development site for IDS. It paves the way for even more active AI research and development. After all, "cameras and artificial intelligence are a combination that allows IDS to reinvent itself and contribute to shaping the future," continues Jan Hartmann.

In addition to the new subsidiary in Serbia, IDS already has its own branches in the USA, Japan, South Korea and Great Britain, as well as two sales offices in France and the Netherlands.

Modernising to improve improve safety, reliability and efficiency.

ABB has entered into an agreement with Zijin Mining Group to install its state-of-the-art ring-geared mill drives and control systems at Veliki Krivelj Copper Mine (SRB) - a surface mining operation with an annual ore processing capacity of 2.5 million tons.

Veliki Krivelj was acquired by Zijin Mining Group in 2018 as part of a deal with Serbia's Bor Copper Mine, which included three open-pit mines, an underground mine and a smelter. The US$350 million investment is one of China’s largest investments in Serbia to date. Zijin Mining Group expects to invest 200 million euros to transform and expand the existing production capacity of Serbia's Bor copper mine and smelter.

As part of the modernization project, ABB will provide ring-geared mill drives and intelligent control systems for one SAG mill (2x6.5MW) and one ball mill (2x7.5MW), including electric control systems, drives, motors, transformers and end-to-end services which will increase productivity, reduce downtime and boost energy efficiency.

ABB’s solution provides dual pinion mill drives, frozen charge detection, controlled roll back, automatic positioning, variable speed and cascade monitoring functionalities. The dual pinion mill drive is a variable speed technology which will effect low mechanical stress impact on the pinion and ring gear by realizing precise load sharing between the two motors of each mill.

Haibo Jing, head of ABB Process Industries, North Asia and China said: "We are glad to be working with Zijin Mining on the Veliki Krivelj copper mine project and to be bringing our technology to further support the success of the company in their 'Belt and Road Initiative."

ABB has worked with Zijin Mining since 2018 providing strategic consultancy, project expertise and drawing on ABB's track record in supplying total integrated solutions to the mining industry across electrification, automation, digital, drives and motors and infrastructure. In 2019, ABB supported Zijin on both the phase III technological upgrading project of Xinjiang Zijin Zinc Industry Co., Ltd and the Majdanpek (MS) copper mine in Serbia.
