Underwater electric power converter!

A new electrical power conversion technology for subsea power distribution requirements in the oil & gas industry that replaces hydraulic systems with efficient electric drive motors, actuators, and small cables has been intro- duced by Diversified Technologies, Inc.

The PowerMod™ High Voltage Underwater Electric Power Converter is a modular system that allows 10 kV transmission to the ocean floor using 10 AWG cables and converts it to working voltage levels from 100 to 600 VDC or 480 VAC. Eliminating hydraulics and miles of hydraulic cables, this system can be configured with modules that can each down convert 20 kW to 20 mW @10 kV to drive loads at multiple locations from a power station up to 500 miles away.

Permitting the use of electric drive motors and actuators rather than hydraulics, the PowerMod™ High Voltage Underwater Electric Power Converter’s solid-state power distribution center employs proprietary high frequency switching technology to perform the conversion within a single unit. This subsea electric power conversion system has a rated life more than 25 years.

High peak power amplifier!

A new, turnkey high peak power amplifier which provides pulse fidelity and repeatability with high reliability is being introduced by Diversified Technologies.

DTI PowerMod™ Solid-State Klystron Transmitters include a PLC-based controller, pulse transformer, high voltage solid-state switch, and the required protection circuitry to run a Klystron. Featuring > 0.1% pulse fidelity and repeatability, with 100,000 hours MTBF, this Klystron modulator is an ideal building block for high availability applications such as particle accelerators and mission-critical radars.

Minimising the stress on the system in the event of a tube arc or fault, Diversified Technologies’ PowerMod™ high voltage solid-state opening switch technology contributes to long tube life and high availability, with rapid fault recovery. Peak RF power is available to 100 MW, pulse widths from 1 µs to 5 mS repetition rate to 1 KHz, voltage flatness is < 1%, reproducibility is 0.1%, and pulse-to-pulse jitter is < 5 nanoseconds.

Agreement signed for working on next generation of particle accelerators!

Diversified Technologies (DTI)  has recently signed an agreement with SigmaPhi Accelerator Technologies of Vannes (F). They will be working together on systems for the next generation of particle accelerators.
Michael Kemkes of DTI flanked by Pascal Dupire (L) and Jean-Luc Lancelot of SigmaPhi
DTI and Sigmaphi will collaborate on the design, development, production, installation, repair, maintenance, and marketing of systems consisting of modulators and power supplies including Klystron Pulse Modulators for a broad range of high power RF applications. Sigmaphi manufactures magnet systems and beam transport lines for particle accelerators.

According to Michael Kempkes, DTI VP, “Working with Sigmaphi’s highly dedicated and skilled team will provide DTI with a strong partner to manufacture, install, and service equipment and systems for CERN, ESS, and other high energy physics facilities throughout Europe.”

High voltage switches

Diversified Technologies provide compact, solid-state high voltage switch modules that provide direct high voltage switching for replacing switch tubes, ion and plasma processing, and large scale electroporation.

Their DTI PowerMod™ Solid-State Switch Modules provide high voltage switching in as little as 50 ns and pulse repetition frequencies up to 30 KHz are avail-able with pulsewidths variable on a pulse-to-pulse basis from 1 µsec to DC. Eliminating transformers and impedance matching, the modules are controlled at ground with a simple magnetically-coupled loop, operate on 110/220 VAC power, and accept pulse commands via fiber optic link to simplify integration.

Featuring >99% switching efficiency, or <50 V drop for a 10 kV, 300 A module, DTI PowerMod™ Solid-State Switch Modules measure 305 x 127 x 76.2 mm and can be stacked for switching up to 500 kV at 5,000 A. Operating fully “on” or fully “off” which greatly eases high voltage management, each module yields >1 million hours predicted reliability per MIL-HDBK-217F.

Solid state replaces vacuum tubes in radar TX

A full line of highly reliable, solid-state radar transmitter systems to drive Klystrons, TWTs, IOTs, and magnetrons operating from UHF to W band is available from Diversified Technologies.

DTI Radar Transmitter Systems incorporate switching power supplies, solid-state pulse modulators, and controls that provide from 10 to 50% greater power efficiency and higher reliability than vacuum tube based systems. Featuring full pulse flexibility from 50 ns to 10 ms pulse frequencies, depending upon application, these modular, all solid-state systems are suitable for new and retrofit radar installations.

Providing >99% switching efficiency, <500 ns switching times, and pulse frequencies up to 100 KHz, depending upon load, DTI Radar Transmitter Systems are easy to install. Stackable from 11 to 66 KV, they have a single controller that can drive one or two switches in a push-pull configuration, yielding fast fall time for a capacitive load.
