Leadership in Automation.

"ISA Society Elections Open Today!"

This was the title of an email in the Read-Out mailbox yesterday morning. Participation in the annual selection of leaders for the International Society of Automation is possibly one of the most important functions of the member.

"I have always felt that the future of any organisation is largely dependent on how successful it is in choosing the right future leadership," said the 2014 President of the Society Dr Peggie Koon. Thus it can be said that this 75 year old organisation has been largely successful in the past not only in its birthplace but more and more in the world.

Many of the Standards instituted and developed by the Societies committees have been accepted and adopted by international bodies. It's publications are essential for understanding of modern developments, indeed its Journal, ISA Transactions, The Journal of Automation is possibly the most respected publication in the discipline of Automation in the world.

This year the slate of candidates is a good cross section of automation professionals.

The candidates for the 2022 presidency represent several nationalities and territories. The presidency of the ISA has an unique path and it is no sinecure. The person elected this year will serve for three consecutive years with obligations as President-elect Secretary, President and Past President. As president-elect he may be said to learn the ropes for the onerous task of president where he will be responsible for leading the Executive Board, and, in conjunction with the ISA Executive Director, setting the tone of the Society. Finally as Past President he will be able to share his expertese and experience with his successor and also with the incoming President-Elect Secretary.

Polling will conclude on 3rd July 2020.
