Middleware for next-generation factory automation.

Today's factory automation requires faster and more precise motor control, timely and seamless communication over Industrial Ethernet (PROFINET-RT, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, POWERLINK, OPC UA and TSN Time-Sensitive Networking for PROFINET CC-D / CC-LINKIE TSN) of next generation.
Features:
• Dual/Single Arm® Cortex®-R52 CPU core (max operating frequency at 800MHz)
• Large tightly coupled memory (576 KB) eliminates execution time variability and realizes real-time deterministic responses
• Improves the speed and precision control of AC servos by placing motor control peripherals on a low-latency peripheral connector accessible from the CPU
• Supports EtherCAT®, PROFINET RT/IRT, EtherNet/IP™ and the next generation Ethernet standard TSN
• User-friendly development environment, including Renesas Starter Kit for RZ/T2M
• Extensive software package with RTOS, drivers, middleware and many other application examples

The combination of the GOAL middleware from port and the new generation RENESAS RZ/T2M TSN-enabled family offers a future-proof option to use all previously used real-time protocols and at the same time to retrofit TSN-based protocols such as PROFINET CC -D or CC-LinkIE TSN.

Port's GOAL middleware offers a uniform platform for the quick and easy integration of Industrial Ethernet protocols such as PROFINET RT with MRP, EtherNet/IP inc. DLR, EtherCAT (and more) and in the future PROFINET CC-D TSN and CC-linkIETSN. GOAL also offers an OPC UA extension that standardizes access to machines, devices and other systems in the industrial environment.

Port's GOAL middleware is supported by a powerful tool (ICC - industrial communication creator). Here, too, port offers a uniform tool for parameterization and administration of all GOAL-supported real-time extensions.

Port offers some examples for download, which can be tested on the EVAL platform "Renesas RZ/T2M RSK".

The RZ/T2M microprocessor (MPU) provides high-speed processing and high-precision control, improving real-time performance in factory automation. Equipped with a 3-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, the RZ/T2M can connect to the main industrial Ethernet multi-protocols and TSN in one chip. A functional safety system can be built using only one RZ/T2M MPU and one other MCU to monitor.

Multiprotocol support.

PROFINET, EtherNetIP und EtherCAT supported.

The connection of SoM modules (Stack on Module) has been extended by port to the STM32 MCU family from ST Microelectronics. With the firmware extension µGOAL, all derivatives of the STM32F, STM32G, STM32L and STM32H families can now be connected to the SoM (Stack on Module) via SPI. The user is now able to offer PROFINET (incl. MRP), EtherNetIP (incl. DLR) and EtherCAT for all named derivatives.

The firmware extension µGOAL describes a software package that enables the integration of the SoM module in applications without using a complete GOAL framework platform. As a result, for example. 8 bit CPUs with 2KB RAM can also be connected via SPI with the multi-protocol support technology SoM (Stack on Module). This makes it possible to enable low-cost or low-performance CPUs to be integrated into PROFINET, EtherNetIP and EtherCAT environments quickly and easily. µGOAL mimics the required functionality from the GOAL framework, which is specifically required by the application controller framework. It is configurable in a number of ways to ensure compatibility with a wide variety of destinations. Most of the CCM-specific examples for fieldbus applications can be reused without modification.

By using the module, no investment costs in the form of licenses are necessary. The module is cUL / CE certified. The PROFINET, EtherNetIP and EtherCAT protocols are “PRE-Certified” and therefore easy to integrate.

An extensive tool chain such as the ICE (Industrial Communication Explorer - is included free of charge) and the ICC (Industrial Communication Creator - optionally available) make integration much easier.

Communication creator tool.

port is increasingly focusing its activities on the range of semiconductor-independent real time multiprotocol solution. The stacks, resp. Protocol libraries for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, CANopen, EtherCAT and CC-Link IE TSN have already been combined under the technology roof of the “GOAL middleware”. Now port has also combined its extensive range of design tools into an Eclipse-based toolchain – with a new name “Industrial Communication Creator”. This unifies the former separate tools into one Tool for all.

The Industrial Communication Creator supports customers in the design phase. Due to its simple handling, this tool leads to a significant shortening of the design in phase and thus to significant cost reductions.

The Creator Tool does not only speed up the development process, it is as well a unique way to create a repeatable documentation of the engineers activities. In case another engineers need to take over the activities – there is a source documenting what has been done.

While port´s customers using PROFINET / EtherNetIP and CC-Link IE TSN already know this look&feel – for our EtherCAT and CANopen customers this is a new approach. Especially for CANopen and EtherCAT, port´s customers will find the very same functionality as in the previously used Design-Tools. Newly supported platforms will be included by simply adding plugin files in the corresponding directory – no new version needs to be installed. These plugin files are provided in the corresponding driver directory in our customers download portal site.

The new Industrial Communication Creator support also the new SoM Modules from port and the new RJ45 Modules from RENESAS.

Customers are now able to integrate and use the Industrial Communication Creator in automated build systems and include the project files into code repositories.

This new Industrial Communication Creator can run with the regular GUI but as well as “headless”. For the “headless” mode a small executable without GUI is available, which simply processes the project file with library, creating the corresponding output. This will help to run our Industrial Communication Creator in automated build systems. Further there is an option to create the project file parallel in XML format. This XML-File can be parsed and archived and handled in regular code repositories. The possibilities for importing and exporting object information have been expanded and improved.
