We are completely signed up to high quality, responsible and ethical manufacturing practices and to ensuring the best possible conditions in the workplace for all of our Team.”

This is the largest ever survey of British business management capabilities, executed on a population of 25,000 companies across industries, regions, firm sizes and ages, documenting the variable quality of management practices. Intended to help  business’ get through the impact of the current economic uncertainty the survey notes that, in Britain and internationally, firms with higher management practice scores on average tend to have higher productivity and profits.

The overall management practices score takes into account all the different tools and practices used to run a particular business, over four categories: continuous improvement, KPIs, targets and employment practices.

Intelliconnect have a policy of continuous improvement in working practices and during 2020 achieved accreditation to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, adding to their existing ISO 9001:2015 quality standard and SC21 Silver performance standard for the Aerospace, Security and Space Industry Supply Chain Programme. * The UK Management and Expectations Survey (MES) was first conducted in 2017 and again in 2020 by a consortium of academics who belong to the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The MES revealed significant variation in management practices amongst British firms that were otherwise similar in terms of workforce composition, industry, age and size. Free mentoring is offered for companies wishing to find ways to improve their management scores.

People, Processes & Products! What & where you read in 2016!

These are the 10 most viewed stories on the Read-out Instrumentation Signpost throughout 2016. There are now over eight thousand stories published in the six or seven years since we started reporting them here. We decided to use this format as the printed format is obviously limited in the number of stories that can be published. The online service also reaches a far wider audience.

Both our web site (established in dial-up internet days of 1994) and these blog-type entries attract between 5000 and 9000 per week from all over the globe. About 30% of these are based in the USA and of the rest about 28% come from Europe (principally France, Norway, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Ukraine and Russia) and Asia about 3%. The balance came from the rest of the world including Canada, Central & Latin America, Africa, Australia & New Zealand.

Robot sales grow!

The latest robot sales statistics compiled by the British Robot and Automation Association (BARA), reveal that sales have increased by a dramatic 68% over the last year. Almost all of the major robotics suppliers to British Manufacturing have reported this trend which is welcome news from the industry.

The most dramatic growth has come from the automotive or automotive components sectors with growth of 235% and 176% respectively. Surprisingly both the food and drink and pharmaceutical, health and medical sectors reported a decrease of 8% and 76% respectively.

Mike Wilson Chairman of BARA said "we are delighted with such an increase in industrial robot sales over the year although most of this has been within the automotive industry. Most sectors have experienced increases and this represents the best growth statistics since 1997. Average growth is nearly 70% year-on-year which represents strong sales for most of the robot manufacturers."

Mike continued "the Government are also putting considerable money behind the promotion of robotics in UK Manufacturing in recognition that robots actually create more jobs through growth. Currently over 100 companies are making use of the free automation review open to any UK manufacturer. This in turn should also enhance growth in robotics over the next couple of years"
