Significant emhancement for software source code analysis.

TrustInSoft has announced that their analyzer now includes memory mapping, in addition to its already highly accurate target hardware awareness.

Low-level software relies on mappings between program variables and chipset-specific memory regions. Memory mapping awareness is therefore of high importance when analyzing low-level code that accesses specific memory regions (like bootloaders or device drivers).

TrustInSoft Analyzer implements a unique feature that faithfully represents these memory mappings thanks to the new TIS Address variable attribute. Thanks to this accurate representation of physical memory access, TrustInSoft Analyzer can more precisely analyze the behavior of these programs.

Target architecture awareness enables TrustInSoft Analyzer to faithfully emulate hardware features such as endianness, integer and float sizes, and type alignment constraints of a targeted platform. TrustInSoft Analyzer supports 24 architectures for six processors including x86, PowerPC, ARM, SPARC, MIPS, and RISC-V, a range of out-of-the-box architectures and can be easily configured for others.

“TrustInSoft Analyzer’s unique feature set, which now includes TIS Address, differentiates it from any other testing software by allowing the user to accurately emulate architectures with total control over address and pointer formats.” said Fabrice Derepas, Founder and CEO of TrustInSoft. “What this means to C/C++ SW developers, embedded software developers, and product security experts is that TrustInSoft Analyzer enables them to verify low-level software like drivers, firmware, bootloaders, and operating systems that rely on specific hardware behaviors.”

TrustInSoft Analyzer is the most advanced industrial-scale sound code analyzer for proving absence of bugs and memory safety vulnerabilities in C/C++ code available on the market today. Thanks to its emulation abilities, TrustInSoft Analyzer offers several important benefits including:
• Testing effort optimization, by helping to test software against any target hardware early in the software module development cycle, reducing the number of test iterations on the final platform.
• Solving the constraints due to the unavailability of hardware platforms and enabling concurrent engineering
• Reducing the number of hardware platforms and emulators required for integration testing.

Derepas added, “The benefits of TrustInSoft Analyzer help to eliminate the bottleneck typically caused by limited access to a hardware platform and enables developers to clean their code much earlier in the process, resulting in significant cost reductions. Its unique target awareness capability enables software developers to accurately emulate and test their target, therefore eliminating the need to access and test the real targets.”

Workstation memory enhancement.

Innodisk has announced the debut of their new industrial-grade DDR5 memory in workstations, which are powerful computers intended for specialized technical and scientific use cases. This new technology gives early adopters the chance to demonstrate the real-world speed, and performance gains that were promised during the hype surrounding the announcement of DDR5 in 2021.

Now, as Innodisk begins mass production, the new technologies that DDR5 introduced, such as double bank groups, same bank refresh, on-die ECC, and dual subchannels are being utilized in workstations that push the limits of speed, capacity, and reliability in professional environments.

Innodisk is already leading the industry in the implementation of DDR5 memory in workstation computers. One of their clients, who has already put DDR5 to the test in a meaningful way, is a global company that designs and manufactures workstations for engineering, product design, architecture, data science, and VFX. They decided to use Innodisk’s 4800MT/s 32GB DDR5 UDIMM for their workstation computers. These workstations provide the ideal match for early DDR5 adoption as they offer server-grade performance, with high-end processors, and lots of memory, in a standard PC form factor for CPU and RAM-intensive applications like graphics, 3D design, and video editing.

The client, whose end customers cover multiple industries including science and medical, film, mission critical applications, as well as manufacturing and design, was able to benefit from DDR5’s increased bandwidth, better power efficiency, and higher memory efficiency, while also future proofing the workstations they built with the latest and greatest standard in DRAM technology. The aforementioned improvements over DDR4 will allow customers to work faster, and more efficiently, while not having to worry about data loss, due to the extra layer of protection through IC level checking that DDR5’s on-die ECC provides.

Bidirectional data memory module.

A compact memory module with IP 67 protection is just 34 x 16 x 8 mm in size is available from Balluff.  It can be used as a memory storage device on interchangeable units such as milling heads on gantry type machining centers.

This means the assemblies can carry their actual operating data along with them. With the following advantage: When a machine is changed, all the data such as the number of use cycles, shock and vibration values or lubrication and oil change intervals are directly loaded.

The work required to install and parameterize the module is minimal. Only a single standard cable is required for stable, fault-free, bidirectional data transmission between the milling head and controller. The cable is connected to the milling head interface in the system ring. Data transmission is noise-immune as well as resistant to EMC effects. The module can hold a total of 14 segments of 64 bytes each.

Machine operators will profit from the fact that when a milling head is switched from one machine to another, all the identifying and usage data will be automatically copied and loaded from the milling head memory into the NC controller through a cable. When maintenance or repair work is needed, the service personnel can read out all the data from the memory chip on a PC or laptop and update it as needed. This gives the plant operator continual and transparent information about the current status of the milling head.
