Appointments to developer of open architecture software solutions.

Lynx Software Technologies has appointed experienced industry executives Michel Genard and Ed Dolanski to its Board of Directors.

Michel Genard
Genard brings over three decades of experience working with embedded software companies, most recently serving as Vice President of Product Management at Wind River, an established provider of embedded safety and security solutions. As a member of Wind River's executive leadership team, Genard oversaw product strategy under Intel’s ownership and following the sale of the company to TPG in 2018. Earlier in his tenure at Wind River he held leadership positions, including Vice President and General Manager of the Industrial IoT and Aerospace and Defense business unit and management of the company’s first European research and development center. Genard has also held leadership roles at Virtutech, a provider of simulation software tools, which was acquired by Intel in 2010, at TimeSys, a provider of Linux-based security solutions for the embedded market, and at Integrated Systems, a provider of embedded and computer-aided engineering software, which was acquired by Wind River in 2000.

Ed Dolanski
Dolanski brings over thirty years of experience within the aerospace and defense end markets, recently serving as President of Boeing’s U.S. Government Services business. In this role, Dolanski oversaw all aspects of the business, including growth, operations, and technology strategy. Previously, Dolanski held leadership positions across multiple Boeing business units, including President of the $10 billion Global Services & Support unit within Boeing Defense, Space & Security and President and CEO of Aviall, and he also served as the Vice President of Raytheon’s Mission Support & Cyber Engagement and Services business units. Dolanski serves on the Board of Directors of VSE Corporation and as the Chairman of the Board of MD Helicopters.

Financial Officer.

Amanda Blum has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer with Lynx Software Technologies. Blum was previously with Green Hills Software, an established provider of embedded safety and security solutions, where she served as the Corporate Controller. She will oversee finance, accounting and other administrative support functions and report into CEO Tim Reed.

She is a certified public accountant and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Business Economics with an emphasis in Accounting.

New CEO for embedded systems provider.

Lynx Software Technologies has appointed Tim Reed as Chief Executive Officer. Reed was previously with Green Hills Software, an established provider of embedded safety and security solutions, where he served as the Senior Vice President of the Advanced Products division and as a member of the executive leadership team.

Reed succeeds Gurjot Singh, who joined Lynx in 1992 and has served as CEO since 2008, recently leading the Company in securing a strategic investment from an affiliate of OceanSound Partners, LP (“OceanSound”). Singh will continue to serve on the Board of Directors and will advise the Company on key initiatives, including corporate strategy and supporting key customer relationships.

Reed graduated with a B.S. in Engineering and Applied Science from the California Institute of Technology.

Starter Kit Options for IT/OT Convergence.

Advantech and Lynx Software Technologies have partnered to offer multiple Mission Critical Edge Starter Kit options that enable the convergence of IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology).

LYNX MOSA.ic™ for Industrial, Lynx’s mission critical edge platform, provides virtual air gapping between the control automation and other workloads. It is available for implementation on select Advantech industrial hardware, which reduces integration time for OT edge processing. These Mission Critical Edge Starter Kits enable the following:
  • Implementation of the edge use cases in the OT domain
  • Virtual air gapping of IT and OT workloads
  • OT operators’ ownership of the system management
  • vPLC, Machine Learning and Security running on the same system
  • Ability to host cloud workloads in the OT domain without impacting operators

The foundational building block in LYNX MOSA.ic for Industrial is the LynxSecure® Separation Kernel, which provides strong isolation of applications, deterministic real-time performance and management of critical system assets to increase immunity to cybersecurity attacks. Additionally, Lynx has developed unique management technologies that allow Mission Critical Edge systems to be deployed at scale and meet the strict requirements of systems that enable OT & IT convergence.

Many networks across a variety of verticals including government, military, financial services, power plants, and industrial manufacturing have been so-called “air-gapped.” This means they are physically and logically isolated from other networks where communication between these networks is not physically or logically possible.

The combination of Advantech hardware and Lynx software allows users to have IT/OT collaboration and network separation. In the starter kit, hardware partitioning is provided by Lynx Separation Kernel (LSK). Additional features ideal for customers include the following:

Partnership bridges IT and OT worlds in mission-critical industrial environments

Lynx Software Technologies has announced a partnership with the CODESYS Group to provide a platform that can deploy industrial control automation technology on general purpose computer platforms alongside artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML), security and other application workloads.

The LYNX MOSA.ic™ for Industrial product, Lynx’s mission critical edge platform, provides virtual air gapping between the control automation and other workloads. The combination makes it possible for edge use cases that require mixed criticality workloads to be hosted on the same hardware platform.

The foundational building block in the LYNX MOSA.ic for Industrial product is the LynxSecure® Separation Kernel, which provides strong isolation of applications, deterministic real-time performance and management of critical system assets outside operating systems to increase immunity to cybersecurity attacks. In addition, Lynx has developed unique management technologies that allow mission critical edge systems to be deployed at scale and meet the unique requirements of systems that enable OT and IT convergence.

Robust connected camera-based quality system for industrial environments.

Bosch VHIT (Vacuum & oil pump products Italy) has announced that it has partnered with Lynx Software Technologies to test a new proof of concept camera-based quality program for use with real-time decision making in industrial settings. The move is part of Bosch VHIT’s digital transformation of its processes and product development.

The program captures data from cameras on manufacturing plant floors and logistics warehouses and harnesses machine learning algorithms to identify quality issues and feed information into the MES system, in order to generate an optimal decision in real time. When securely connected to the cloud, the system benefits from continued access to advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and data analytics packages.

This partnership enables the digital feedback loop that is reliant on capturing quality images and analyzing the data to provide a safe real-time action. The LYNX MOSA.ic for Industrial product enables the program to run multiple functions on a single SoC without compromising performance, security or safety.

Cybersecurity and COVID-19.

Lynx Software has announced the results of its pandemic cybersecurity survey* designed to capture U.S. employees’ sentiment toward how seriously companies have taken cybersecurity since the start of COVID-19. Companies have not done enough to prevent heightened security risk in light of remote working, as nearly 4 in 10 (36%) respondents have been, or know someone who has been, impacted by a cybersecurity attack since the start of COVID-19.

Secure Laptops & the Enterprise of the Future
Lynx’s survey findings of 1,000 working Americans indicates that a large majority of respondents (69%) are more concerned about cybersecurity risks during COVID-19 than they were before the pandemic - as perimeter-based security is no longer possible so device infrastructure becomes even more vulnerable. Worryingly, less than half (49%) of respondents said their organisation’s cybersecurity has strengthened since the start of the pandemic. Employees are mostly concerned about how this could impact their data privacy as 54% of respondents indicated that the biggest cybersecurity concern they have is their personal data being compromised.

Employee IT behaviour is leaving many companies exposed to heightened cybersecurity risks during the pandemic. While working remotely:

· 76% of respondents use a personal device for work at least sometimes
· 75% use cloud based services to store and edit their documents
· 60% use a USB to move work files
· 22% are not sure if they are able to switch off their work Virtual Private Network (VPN) and 22% know they aren’t able to
· 65% indicated that their company allows them to use their work computer for accessing personal services

Since they started working remotely, many respondents said their company has not doubled down sufficiently on strengthening security policies and measures:

· 60% say their company has not prohibited the use of certain apps and tools that do not meet high security standards
· 58% say their company has not implemented antivirus software
· 48% are not aware of their company implementing strict IT security policies
“Organisations of all types need to prioritise finding ways to secure end-points for their employees’ devices, whether they are on laptops, edge servers or anything between, especially in the remote, zero-trust environment we are living in. For IT teams this doesn’t have to mean prohibitive costs or compromising performance,” said Arun Subbarao, vice president of engineering and technology at Lynx Software. “At Lynx, we endorse increased security awareness for IT in order to combat risks that have come as a result of people’s increasingly virtual lifestyles since COVID-19.

Lynx’s survey illustrated that not all employees are aware of the additional cybersecurity risks they are exposed to since working remotely or what to do in a threatening situation. While 95% of respondents agreed that it is important that they feel like their work laptop is secure, 3 in ten were not aware that company devices used outside of the workplace are at greater risk for cyber threats. In addition, over half indicated that they would not be able to recognise if their work device had been hacked, and three in ten would not know what actions to take if they sense their device has been attacked.

The fight to protect organisations from risks in zero-trust environments and educate employees on cybersecurity policies and protocols is far from over. Once vaccinations have been more widely rolled out and office returns get underway, 70% of people surveyed still expect to be working from home for some period of the work week, making cybersecurity a priority for IT teams beyond the pandemic. Survey respondents shared their perspective on what steps companies can start with:

· 51% say that organisations can make them more aware of the actions they are taking against cybersecurity risks by sharing policies
· 50% would like training sessions
· 44% would appreciate weekly newsletter updates on cybersecurity efforts

*Survey Methodology: Findings are based on a Pollfish survey of 1,000 employed Americans. The survey ran on February 19, 2021.

Appointments at software innovator.

Lynx Software Technologies has named Ian Ferguson as Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Alliances and Pavan Singh as Vice President of Product Management to strengthen its focus on delivering safety critical, autonomous systems for aerospace, defence, automotive, industrial and other markets. They join Keith Shea, who was named Chief Revenue Officer and Board Advisor by Lynx in December.

Ian Ferguson spent over ten years at Arm, where his positions included VP, Ecosystem Development, IoT Services Group; VP of Worldwide Marketing and Strategic Alliances and VP of Segment Marketing. As Director of Server Systems and Ecosystem his achievements included conceiving and implementing the initial energy efficient data centers. More recently, Ian has been consulting for a range of clients focused on technologies such as blockchain, machine learning and robotics. Other technical marketing experience includes positions at Arduino, Linaro, IDT and Motorola Semiconductor (now NXP).

Pavan Singh, Vice President of Product Management, will take responsibility for the Lynx product strategy and portfolio management including the Lynx MOSA.ic™ framework announced at Embedded World in 2019. Pavan has spent more than 16 years in technology leadership roles helping companies unlock rapid growth. He was previously Senior Director, Product, IoT Edge at Wind River. Pavan is recognized as a thought leader in the Internet of Things and has consulted with start-ups and corporations on their digital transformation strategy. He also held leadership role in the IoT Solutions Group at Cisco Systems. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, an MS from the Texas A&M University and Bachelor degree from the Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay.

Key appointments at platform software technologies leader.

Lynx Software Technologies has made key appointments to its leadership team and significantly expanded headcount at its headquarters in San Jose (CA USA). Neeraja Vemulapalli joins Lynx in a newly created role as Vice President, Program Management and Quality, and David Beal joins as Director of Product Marketing. Lynx has also significantly expanded its core software engineering team to support program delivery.

Systems software group expands European team!

Lynx Software Technologies has expanded its European team with the appointment of Andrew Turnbull as Senior Director, EMEA Sales and Tim Loveless as Principal Solutions Architect. They both report to Lee Cresswell, vice president of global sales at Lynx.

Andrew Turnbull takes responsibility for Lynx customers in the EMEA region. He joined Lynx from Oracle, where he was Senior Sales Manager, MySQL Embedded Europe. He has exceptional experience of sales and marketing in the software and semiconductor industries, including roles with Integrated Device Technology (IDT), Tundra Semiconductor, Wintegra, Wind River, Integrated Systems and Motorola Semiconductor.

Tim Loveless will work closely with Andrew, offering providing technical leadership in solution design and development for EMEA customers. He has over 20 years’ experience of embedded real time and safety critical systems development, including ten years leading an FAE team at Wind River (Intel).

VP Sales for embedded software.

Lynx Software Technologies has promoted Lee Cresswell to a worldwide role as Vice President of Sales. Lee was previously Sales Director, EMEA at Lynx and brings over 20 years’ experience in embedded software markets.

Lee Cresswell joined Lynx Software Technologies as Sales Director, EMEA in 2013. Prior to that he was Director, International Sales at Real-Time Innovations (RTI), where he had responsibility for sales in the EMEA region including both direct and indirect accounts. Previously he held European sales positions with Texas Instruments and Wind River. Lee Cresswell has a BSc in Computer Science from the University of York and an MBA from the London Business School.

New technology chief at embedded software company.

Lynx Software Technologies has named Will Keegan as Chief Technology Officer. Will was previously Technical Director, Software Security at Lynx with responsibility for leading the LynxSecure separation kernel hypervisor product line.

Protecting critical industrial infrastructure.

Lynx Software Technologies is participating in the inaugural IoT Security Foundation (IoTSF) Conference by delivering a joint paper with Webroot, and by exhibiting at the event. The Conference takes place at the Royal Society's august premises in London's Savoy Place next week (December 1 2015).

Lynx announced a strategic partnership with Webroot in October. The two companies are combining their security technologies to enable developers to build advanced threat detection and protection into Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices. Lynx joined the IoTSF also in October.

Supporting IoT Security.

Lynx Software Technologies has joined the recently launched Internet of Things Security Foundation (IoTSF) to support its vision of delivering a safe Internet of Things environment for all.

What is The IoTSF?
The IoTSF is a non-profit, technology neutral body, which will take a system wide, holistic perspective on IoT security best practice. It is not a standards body but intends to work collaboratively with existing standards and other consortia “by default”.

The programme of activities of the foundation will initially target three key stakeholder groups: technology providers, systems adopters and end users. IoTSF has an executive steering board comprised of leading technology organisations and security experts including BT, Vodafone, Imagination Technologies, Royal Holloway University of London, Copper Horse Solutions, Secure Thingz, NMI and PenTest Partners.

John Haine, industry veteran and visiting professor at the University of Bristol has been announced as the inaugural chair.

Partnership to protect connected IoT devices from targeted attacks.

Webroot and Lynx Software Technologies have announced a strategic partnership. The companies are combining unique security technologies which enable developers to build advanced threat detection and protection into Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices.

The Webroot® IoT Security Toolkit enables IoT and IIoT system integrators and solution designers to integrate real-time threat intelligence services and intelligent cybersecurity device agents to protect critical systems against modern threats. The LynxSecure Hypervisor from Lynx Software Technologies is a secure virtualization solution that is based on separation kernel technology, originally designed to separate and protect military networks at different classification levels.
