Absolute positioning system.

The PXV 2-D absolute positioning system from Pepperl+Fuchs sets new performance benchmarks when it comes to reliability and handling. With its large reading window, the system keeps a sufficient number of codes in view, even in relation to track switches and changes to the code tape. Precise positioning is guaranteed at all times.

The safePXV and safePGV sensor Six years of experience with the PCV system have helped to shape the development of the PXV. The reading window of the PXV has been enlarged to approx. 120 x 80 mm, meaning that the Data Matrix code tape is always located within the sending range. Mounting and commissioning are easier, and plant availability is further improved. The reading window has an increased depth of focus range, allowing it to capture even more codes simultaneously and also guarantee position detection through multiple redundancy. Unlike other systems available on the market, the PXV requires only a 2-D camera, ensuring that irritation relating to track switches is excluded. To prevent this, the cameras in the two-camera systems can receive the relevant differing position signals in these areas.

A certain degree of contamination on the code tape is often unavoidable during everyday operation. For this reason, the codes for the PXV have been expanded to 15 x 15 mm without compromising the resolution, and the "coarse-grained" design ensures that they are unaffected by contamination. Thanks to redundant detection, the system also cannot be disrupted by the destruction of individual codes. The code tape can be interrupted by a stretch of up to 80 mm without affecting position detection. Innovative safety technology

The new safePXV manages all that a single positioning system can with just one sensor. The new safety technology combines a 2-D reader with a three-colored Data Matrix code tape. The special code tape contains two overlapping Data Matrix codes in red and blue. The 2-D reader is equipped with two different colored LED rings—also red and blue. These rings are activated separately and then read just one Data Matrix code each. An SIL 3/PL e absolute position is always provided as the result.

Rotation speed!

The SC-System's family of signal conditioners by Pepperl+Fuchs can now be used even more comprehensively: the single rotation speed monitor with just a 6 mm installation width processes digital input signals of all binary sensors currently on the market and is now fitted with a restart inhibit. This feature enables the module to have to be activated via a reset input after limit values have been exceeded for a short period of time so that possible faults are found and rectified before restarting.

The design of the rotation speed monitor meets the philosophy that all signals of a signal type currently on the market may be processed with just one module. Signals from NAMUR and SN sensors including line fault detection and short-circuit detection, as well as the measurement data from the 2-wire DC sensors may be processed in accordance with EN 60947-5-2. Signals can be transferred safely in the control level from S0 sensors for measuring the water volume and from 3-wire sensors with PNP or NPN switching outputs. With its S0 interface the rotation speed monitor is also of interest for areas outside industrial automation, such as building automation. The module can safely detect any signal up to 30 V with an input frequency up to 50 kHz. The device is set using a DIP switch or PC software. A start-up override is available to restart the system when standstill monitoring.

The SC-System from Pepperl+Fuchs includes a wide portfolio of signal conditioners for nonhazardous areas. With its space-saving enclosure design that is 6 mm wide and 97 mm high the modules are among the most compact on the market. They can be used at ambient temperatures of up to 70°C. The signal isolators are characterized by 3-way isolation withstanding a working voltage up to 300 V and a test voltage up to 3 KV. Optionally, they are supplied by terminals or a power bus.

Wireless Sensor Connection.

The new WIS 2 (Wireless Inductive System 2) is an ideal way for Pepperl+Fuchs to round off its portfolio for the wireless connection of sensors to moving machine parts with a higher-performance system, according to a statement.

The WIS 2 is used both for signal transmission and for supplying power to the sensors connected to the secondary side, making wear-prone trailing cables and slip rings redundant. The WIS 2 supports ratings of up to 12 W over transmission distances of 0...7 mm compared to the WIS 1 with a maximum of 1.5 W and 0...5 mm, which has been available for years. In addition to the 8-channel design, a streamlined 2-channel variant is now also available for small applications with up to two sensors.

All system variants use a primary and a secondary transmitter, either for two or for eight channels. They come in size M30 in a cylindrical design and fitted with 30 cm cables and M12 connectors as standard. Since the transmitters are not paired, the secondary transmitters are freely interchangeable. As a result, for example, any number of different tool carriers can easily communicate via the same system. Inductive, capacitive, optical or ultrasound models with binary switching output and standard 3-wire connection technology are suitable as sensors. Whereas the 2-channel system uses a space-saving Y-splitter, the 8-channel system has an 8-way connector box with an IP67 degree of protection that can be installed up to 20 m away from the transmitter. Pepperl+Fuchs provides a wide selection of cable lengths and connectors for every application.

The WIS 2 has numerous potential applications in rotary tables, presses and change tools, for object detection on workpiece carriers, on rotation tools, robot gripper arms and all similar devices.

Smallest US Sensor!

The UMB800 from Pepperl+Fuchs is the world's smallest ultrasonic sensor in solid stainless steel. It is made entirely from FDA-compliant materials. With its large detection range and highly compact design, it opens up new automation possibilities in hygienic applications.

The new sensors in the UMB800 series feature hygienic housing that is made entirely from V4A stainless steel. The surface roughness of the housing is less than 0.8µm, minimizing the risk of microbial contamination. The outer skin is hermetically sealed and free from gaps. The sensor can withstand steam jet treatment and aggressive cleaning agents. It features IP68/IP69K degrees of protection and ECOLAB certification. No cleaning processes need to be changed when the sensor is installed in existing systems.

At 18mm in diameter and 55mm in length, the UMB800 is the world's smallest ultrasonic sensor in solid stainless steel. The compact design does not reduce its performance: It provides an exceptionally wide measuring range from a dead band of only 70mm and a detection range of 800mm.

The sensor complies with the guidelines of the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG). All materials are FDA-compliant. The certification covers its specially developed hygienic mounting bracket. No tools are required for assembly. The sensor is resistant to significant temperature fluctuations and remains functional at a continuous operating temperature of up to 85°C.

The UMB800 series is primarily designed for use in hygiene applications (food and pharmaceuticals). It demonstrates its strengths when used in applications in aggressive environments, such as in the chemical or vulcanization industry. The same is true for systems in which robust cleaning methods are used. Typical applications include packaging food in thermoformed trays and measuring the fill level in receiving tanks, as well as applications in car tyre production or processes in electroplating and painting systems, e.g., to detect parts moving into and out of an acid bath.

Making AS-Interface be made even better.

Pepperl+Fuchs is setting a new and innovative standard for AS-Interface IP20 modules in the form of an easily accessible push-in connection at the front of the device. The crimped wire ends can be inserted directly into the push-in terminals. The entire wiring harness is guided downward, meaning there is no need for the upper cable ridge/cable duct. This not only provides a sophisticated solution for the switch cabinet wiring, but also saves on space and ensures clarity.

In switch boxes, modules featuring this connection can be mounted flush on the upper edge of a switch box, without impairing the installation. The transparent hinged cover, which can be snapped into place at multiple points, ensures a clear view through to the digit display at all times and enables the terminal functions to be color-coded internally. The terminals can be removed individually and are coded to prevent them from being mixed up, meaning devices can be replaced without any problems.

The IOs are displayed and diagnostics are performed centrally by means of backlit numbers. There is no need to assign labels to LEDs. This setup also ensures that information can be read even in dark conditions. Dual LEDs are used to indicate overload of an output on a channel-specific basis.

The terminal contacts for AS-i and AUX, which are bridged internally, achieve the full 8A, eliminating the need for double wire end ferrules at terminal points.

The sensor supply for the module can easily be switched between an internal supply from AS-i and an external supply through AUX. This reduces the range of devices required.

As a result of the reliable functional isolation between AS-i and AUX, decentralized system components can be safely deactivated using these modules by disabling AUX. This saves on costs and increases plant availability.

"For those wanting increased efficiency when it comes to AS-Interface in the switch cabinet, the KE5 is the solution to choose," said a spokesman.

The Perfect Combination!

Tailor-made Ex de solutions from Pepperl+Fuchs offer all the benefits of the Ex e and Ex d ignition protection classes in an ideal setup. These solutions are designed and built locally around the world in the company's Solution Engineering Centers, to customers' specific requirements.

Ex de solutions from Pepperl+Fuchs are essentially flameproof enclosures (Ex d) combined with Ex e enclosures, into which terminals and control elements are installed in line with customer specifications. Special cable ducts ensure that the two enclosures are securely connected. A flange between the enclosures ensures that the Ex e enclosure is protected against explosions and prevents dirt from settling or moisture from penetrating the device.

Components for measuring and control technology, or electrical installation technology, that are not specifically designed for areas posing a risk of explosion can be installed in the Ex d enclosure. In addition to isolated barriers or FieldConnex® fieldbus modules from Pepperl+Fuchs, these components may include DCS and ESD systems or other electrical components made to user specifications. The flameproof enclosure ensures that the non-hazardous devices do not pose a threat to the environment. In an ideal scenario, the Ex d enclosure will be opened as little as possible after initial installation, as special rules under IEC 60079-14 must be observed during opening and closing.
The Ex e enclosure underneath contains only components with separate Ex certification. This makes it much easier and safer to access within the system after activation than the Ex d enclosure.

Terminals as well as control and monitoring elements can be serviced or replaced at any time, subject to compliance with the relevant provisions.

With Ex de, Pepperl+Fuchs is offering users the benefits of both ignition protection classes in a tailor-made solution. Ex de provides the ideal means of combining reliable protection for non-hazardous devices with the scope to commission and modify devices in a quick and simple process.
