“Snap on, snap off” detachable HD video camera.

THine®, California Eastern Laboratories (CEL), and Keyssa®, have announced a HD Camera Proof of Concept solution for ruggedized detachable HD cameras. The detached HD camera enclosure can be water and/or oil proof to accommodate severe outdoor environment conditions.

Higher resolution cameras are critical to accurate operation and great user experience. Our unique detachable HD camera solution solves the following problems required by advanced vision systems:

  • Provides high resolution, high frame rate, and low latency to capture and display an accurate image

  • Performs under severe environments including those requiring water and oil-proof enclosures

  • Delivers quick video streaming immediately after “snap-on” connection of the rugged detachable camera

  • The cable-less connection to the camera provides a safer environment for wearable applications by avoiding accidents from cables getting interlaced with clothing or nearby objects

The Proof of Concept solution uses one of THine’s newest chipsets with a MIPI CSI-2 interface, which is a common output of high-resolution cameras, and outputs V-by-One® HS video.

The V-by-One® HS protocol is a standard developed by THine Electronics for video transmission up to 4 Gbits/second per lane for greater than 10 meters. It uses a proprietary encoding scheme along with a clock data recovery- (CDR-) based serializer/deserializer (SERDES) technology. A single Keyssa chip wirelessly transmits V-by-One® HS with 60-GHz technology over about a centimeter, which penetrates plastics. The system can operate with no compression-induced delay due to the highspeed signal transfer capability of the Keyssa and THine technologies.

The Proof of Concept shows that the combination of these different technologies from Keyssa and THine will achieve these demanding requirements. At CES 2019, Keyssa will have a private suite to demonstrate many unique solutions including this Proof of Concept.

“The impact will be significant when you think about the numbers of potential use cases for this solution. The gaming and AR industry have more than 12 million people that could use such devices. Endo/laparoscopic surgery takes place more than 15 million times a year in the US,” said Tak Iizuka, Chief Solution Architect of THine.

Also, by enabling quick and smooth video streaming initialization, the Proof of Concept allows unique system architectures; such as multiple Snap-on Cameras with one Contactless Interface, and one Snap-on Cameras with multiple Contactless Interfaces. Applications include, but are not limited to, wearable/body-top devices for XR (AR/VR/MR), smartphones, tablet-type or lap-top computers, surveillance cameras, home/business security cameras, machine vision, document scanners, medical equipment, and automotive devices.

“THine’s V-by-One® has become a de facto standard for delivering HD video content in consumer and commercial applications,” said Eric Almgren, CEO of Keyssa. “Our wireless connector works seamlessly with THine’s technology to enable new and innovative product designs that require HD video streaming.”

“We are very excited to introduce an unprecedented solution where V-by-One® HS goes over the air thanks to Keyssa’s unique technology,” said Yasuhiro Takada, President and CEO of THine, and “We believe people from many markets will be very impressed with the potential of our state of the art solutions.”

The new Cortet Lighting Control Solution and the Cortet™ by CEL “Powered By Cortet” partnership program enables lamp and luminaire OEMs to provide a full range of local and IoT connected control systems, integrated solutions and lighting accessories to their clients and customers.

As a “Powered By Cortet” partner, a lamp or luminaire OEM can expand its product lines and increase overall profit margins by leveraging Cortet’s industry leading lighting control system with a full line up of tested and certified accessories like sensors, switches, luminaire control adapters, LED drivers, etc. Additionally, the Cortet engineering team, with decades of experience in real world commercial control systems, can provide integration expertise to help with the design, installation and fine tuning of entire systems required for industrial and commercial buildings.

By adding a lighting control system to its portfolio, a luminaire and lamp OEM can increase sales of its existing product lines by selling more luminaires and/or lamps, gain new revenue by selling lighting controls, and open the door to sell new products and services that build on an IoT connected system.

One of the most critical issues that luminaire and lamp OEMs face today is the more rapid than expected deterioration of profit margins for LED products (which last longer than incandescent and fluorescent products, which is another stress on OEMs’ top and bottom lines).

“They need new, higher margin revenue to protect their businesses,” says Erik Davidson, Cortet’s Director of Marketing and Product Management. “We have heard this described to us many times in many ways. That is why CEL developed the ‘Powered by Cortet’ program that gives these OEM’s something new to sell. It’s an added bonus that they can attach this new thing to sell to their higher margin existing products.”

Cortet’s proven technical advantages as well as its unique user interfaces, enable lighting manufacturers to differentiate themselves from the competitors and to better establish long and rewarding relationships with their industrial and commercial facility customers.

According to Paul Minton, CEO Cortet by CEL, “Our new “Powered by Cortet” program, similar to the classic ‘Intel Inside’ program, provides both the technology and the engineering expertise that will enable lighting OEMs to accelerate time to market for new products, expand their service and product offerings, and to increase overall sales and profit margins without having to add more staff. This is a fast and safe way for these technology companies to expand further into their market sector, establishing new customers and expanding engagement with existing relationships.”

The program includes access to the newly launched “Cortet Certification” program - a comprehensive offering of tested and certified to interoperate lighting products and accessories from leading suppliers like Leviton Manufacturing, Illumra, Magnitude Lighting, and more to come. The Cortet Certification program ensures that these lighting products and accessories have been tested to fully interoperate with each other and to be controlled by the Cortet Lighting Control Solution.

High Power CG2409 RF Switch for Wirelass.

The CEL CG2409 family of high power RF switches has been announced recently by CEL.

RF switches are microwave devices that route high frequency signals through transmission paths and can be used for diverse range of applications including WLAN, Mobile Communications, Wireless Security, Wireless Home Automation, Digital TV and many other RF products. The CG2409 is available in two packages X3 and M2. The CG2409X3 and CG2409M2 are manufactured using state of the art pHEMT technology and are packaged and tested in Japan to guarantee high quality and reliability.

These RF switch components can be used within an application to switch between Transmit / Receive modes, as Diversity Switches, switching between two different antennas, and also switching between RF Frequency Bands.

The CG2409X3 is a wideband, high-power single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) GaAs MMIC RF switch, specified for the frequency range of 0.05 to 6GHz, and can operate at a control voltage from 1.8V to 5V. The P0.1dB compression point of the switch is 37.5dBm at 3V. The second and third harmonic specs are -80dBc and -85dBc respectively at input power of 26dBm. The insertion loss ranges from 0.3dB to 0.6dB while the isolation ranges from 32dB to 28dB over the frequency range. The device is in a compact 6-pin XSON package (1.5mmx1.5mmx0.37mm).

The CG2409M2 is also a high-power single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) GaAs MMIC RF switch but is specified for the frequency range of 0.05 to 3.8 GHz and operates at a control voltage from 1.8V to 5V. The P0.1dB compression point of the switch is 36.5dBm. The second and third harmonic specs are -80dBc and -85dBc respectively at input power of 26dBm. The insertion loss ranges from 0.35dB to 0.6dB while the isolation ranges from 35dB to 21dB over the frequency range. This device is in a small 6-pin surface mount package (2.0mmx1.25mmx0.9mm).

Why use a High Power SPDT RF Switch?
There are two trends that dominate recent Wi-Fi systems development. One is the increase of RF transmission power for improved coverage range and better signal quality, and the other is the increasing use complex modulation schemes to boost the data throughput.

Both trends put more stringent requirements on power handling capability as well as linearity of the RF components used in the transmission path in order to meet regulatory and signal integrity specifications. As a result, these RF switches at the antenna ports are now one of the most critical components. While more integrated front-end-modules (FEM) are finding increasing usage, particularly for space constrained applications, discrete MMIC switches still offer the most flexibility in terms of system configuration and performance selection.

These new CEL Switches are drop-in compatible to at least one RF Switch model from Renesas (Renesas switches also offered through CEL). CEL’s RF Switches have lower prices than their equivalent drop-in Renesas RF Switches.
