VA meter switch.

Krohne's variable area (VA) flowmeters DK46/47/48/800 with glass tube are now available with SIL 2 compliance. They are the first and currently the only SIL 2 glass tube purgemeters on the market.

The SIL option is applicable for devices with stainless steel or brass process connections with bistable NAMUR limit switches and junction box. It can be combined with ATEX certifications and also applies to VA flow controllers with individual probability of failures.

Typical applications for the SIL 2 glass tube flowmeters are sample flow monitoring for process analyser systems, gas or liquid supply monitoring for mechanical sealing systems, purging monitoring for measuring systems (e.g. dP flow measurement), or nitrogen inertisation.

VA meter with electrical output.

The DK32 variable area flowmeter is now available, from Krohne, with an electrical signal output: the new version DK32/ESK3x with 4…20mA/HART 7 communication can be used for continuous monitoring, logging or control of low flow applications with liquids and gases.

Being in the portfolio for over 60 years, the DK32 series is a true KROHNE classic for small flows, typically used in 4…12 mm / 1/8…1/2“ pipelines, with local indication of current flow via the mechanical scale. It features a compact design, no need for straight inlet and outlet sections, and an adjusting valve for flow regulation. With available hazardous area approvals, typical DK32 areas of application include process or carrier gases, dosing of chemicals or additives, vessel inertisation, purging, monitoring of analyser sample flow or seal gas/barrier fluids.

Previously only MIN/MAX limit alarms were possible in these applications, the new version DK32/ESK3x can now transmit the current flow to a PCS via 4…20mA/HART 7 at a competitive price-performance ratio in terms of purchase and operation.

Communicating VA meter!

The functionality of the Foundation Fieldbus (FF) module for Krohne's H250 M40 variable area flowmeter has been updated from Interoperability Test Kit 5.2 (ITK 5.2) to ITK 6.3. The new version has been tested and registered with the FieldComm Group, and has also passed the stress test on a DeltaV control system.

Since the introduction of the FF interface in 2012, several thousand devices have been put into operation. Customers who would like to update existing H250 M40 FF devices to ITK 6.3 can do so by ordering a new ITK 6.3 module and simply change it in the field without removing the device from the pipeline. As it is only a new firmware, all 32 international Ex approvals of H250 M40 are still applicable.

With ITK 6.3, NE107 compliant diagnostic messages have been implemented, and execution times of the function blocks have been significantly improved so that more devices can be polled for a given schedule (total cycle time of the bus system). It is possible to operate FF ITK 5.2 and ITK 6.3 devices simultaneously in one system. Each version requires its own driver (CFF/ DD/ DTM), which must be installed once per device type.

VA meters with HART!

The Krohne variable area flowmeter H250 M40 is now available with HART 7.4 communication.

HART 7 compliance and interoperability have been validated by FieldComm Group FCG (formerly HART Communication Foundation HCF) and issued with a "HART Registered" certificate. Thus, the H250 M40 can now also provide NE107 diagnostic messages; compliance with the requirements of NAMUR has been proven as part of a supplementary type test according to NAMUR recommendation NE95.

H250 M40 is a well-proven flowmeter in all process industries for cost-effective measurement of liquids and gases. The new communication option adds to its modular design: with the purely mechanical version as a base, electronic (communication) modules can be added or replaced/retrofitted to match applications from analogue flow measurement without auxiliary power to digital integration into a fieldbus system.

Metal free flowmeter!

There are no metals in the fluid path of F-462N Series inline Variable Area Flowmeters from Blue-White Industries,  making these units well suited for use in many ultrapure applications.

Constructed of tough, chemical resistant Polysulfone, F-462N flowmeters offer better resistance to high temperatures, pressures and a broad base of harsh chemicals, than many plastic flowmeters on the market.

The high capacity F-462N utilizes precisely engineered ridges molded into the meter body, which guide PTFE floats. Calibration range is 2.0 to 80 GPM/8.0 to 300 LPM and permanent direct reading scales are easy to read.

F-462N features Polysulfone 2” F/NPT fittings with FKM O-Rings and half union adapter connections. Socket fusion fittings are available.

Maximum fluid temperature is 200 degrees at 0 psi. Maximum working pressure is 150 psi / 10.3 bar at 70 degrees F/ 21c. An optional splash shield is available.

4-20mA output for variable area flowmeters with glass measuring tube!

A 4-20mA electrical output signal is now available with the new option "WIM" for the variable area flowmeter VA40 from Krohne. While the flow rate with these glass devices could previously be read only locally, the 4...20mA output option allows for transmission of the measured value for control or evaluation purposes.

With VA40 WIM version, the height of the float is converted into an electrical signal via a Hall sensor chain. This signal can be used for a PLC/DCS, or to record the measured value over a certain period with a data logger. Along with each VA40 WIM, KROHNE supplies the calibration curve, allowing the customer to assign the exact flow value to any current value.

VA40 variable area flowmeters are used for the volume flow measurement of liquids or gases. The glass measuring tube enables visual inspection of the medium to evaluate properties such as gas entrainments or colouring. Typical applications include measurement of flushing, purging or inerting gases, heating and cooling circuits, gas measurement in industrial furnaces, or other basic applications in machine building and process industries, where this purely mechanical measuring principle has proven itself for almost 100 years.

All connection variants of the VA40 are also available with the WIM option. With the robust stainless steel taps, the maintenance-free device is mounted directly into the pipeline using flange, screw, clamp or hose connections. An installation in hazardous areas according to ATEX II2G Ex ia IIC T6 Gb and ATEX II2D Ex ia IIIC T85°C Db is possible. Retrofitting the WIM option to existing devices is not possible.
