Eight KB transponder.

Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) systems use radio waves to localize and identify objects. The Simatic RF200 is an RFID system from Siemens which is particularly suitable for use in industrial production in the areas of for small assembly lines and intralogistics. To allow to objects to carry a large amount of data locally, Siemens has extended its RFID portfolio to include a new series of compact, rugged transponders based on the ISO standard 15693.

The new models come with an eight kilobyte memory capacity, and their Ferroelectric Random Access Memory (FRAM) technology supports an unlimited number of write cycles at high speeds.

Whether you need to keep track of car body components in the automotive industry, or order picking boxes in a warehouse – all the user-specific data is stored on the transponder. The new series of MDS D52x transponders from Siemens are exceptionally compact and rugged, making them ideal for a wide range of uses. MDS D521 can be used wherever small data carriers and precision are needed, for instance for tool identification or on workpiece carriers, while in assembly and production lines as well as powertrain applications, MDS D522, D525 and D528 models are most suitable.

MDS D524 is ideal for use in production and distribution logistics applications, and the MDS D526 transponder units are particularly suited for logistics operations close to production under even the toughest of environmental conditions. Large data memory and FRAM technology This new series of passive, maintenance- free data carriers based on the ISO standard 15693 allows the user to utilise the large eight kilobyte FRAM memory over a range of between 6 and 400 millimeters. Because the transponders allow an unlimited number of write cycles, they are particularly suitable for the permanent identification of workpieces, part carriers and containers. The transponder data is read by the proven RFID readers of the Simatic RF200 system.

RFID transponder.

Intelligent RFID transponder incorporates monitoring functions for sensor data

Harting has enhanced its RFID Embedded Transponder (ETB) with a range of extended functions including the ability to monitor and transmit sensor data. As a result, it becomes possible for an object or component that is equipped with an RFID transponder to determine and wirelessly transfer not only its own ID, but also its current status with the help of connected sensors. This supports the Internet of Things principle in which passive devices can communicate with one another.

The integrated UHF (ultra high frequency) technology embedded in the transponder performs, in effect, as a direct control system, and allows mobile parts that do not have their own constant energy supply to be monitored comprehensively.

This passive mode of operation, in which the system on the transponder side functions without an energy source, is a major advantage of UHF-based control systems. The system obtains its energy from the RFID reader device, and powers the RFID transponder via the transmitted radiation - which in Europe lies in the frequency band from 865 to 867 MHz. Communication between reader and transponder also takes place via these radio waves. The transponder can address external sensors and transmit data to the reading device over a range of up to 3 m.

The Ha-VIS RFID ETB 86v1 transponder is equipped with up to four digital inputs that can be securely read and evaluated with the help of an EPC Class 1 Gen 2 compatible RFID reader.

Versatile RFID transponders for optimal performance!

The new Ha-VIS RFID VT 86 (HT) from Harting is an RFID transponder that combines robustness, a high protection class and resistance to the effects of high temperatures and chemicals and to achieve optimal performance in difficult environments.

Originally developed to meet the requirements of the aviation industry, the new transponder meets the regulatory requirements for operation in both the EU and the US/ASIA frequency bands (865-868 MHz and 902-928 MHz, respectively), and is therefore qualified for global use.

The new transponder is ideally suited to on-site applications in maintenance, repair and operational scenarios in industrial environments. It also meets the increasing need in integrated industrial plants for RFID transponders that are capable of recording and storing extra information: for example, the documentation of the maintenance history of a safety-critical object.

The new unit measures only 41 × 11 × 5.15 mm, incorporates a user memory of up to 3 kbit capacity, and has a range of up to 5 m when mounted on metal. It is EPC Class 1 Gen 2 compatible, and has an operating temperature range of -50°C to +160°C.
