Force and displacement control for presses.

Innovation dedicated to the needs of monitoring and total traceability of industrial processes.

EMG offers a range of force and/or displacement management solutions combining force and displacement sensors connected to a display for 100% part control. This new equipment enables permanent and accurate quality control and anomaly detection on rack and pinion, toggle or pneumatically operated bench machines used in manual, automated or semi-automated workstations.

Suitable for use in the most challenging industrial environments, this plug-and-play solution enables the production of compliant parts right from the manufacturing stage and includes multi-programme management, sequence programming, statistics provision and can be an important part of any SPC process. Accessories such as panel mounting brackets are also available.

Stéphane Long, CEO & Sales Manager France and Export, emphasises: "At a time when production lines are undergoing digital transformation, we had to offer an agile and easily integrable solution. The complete "EMG-CONTROL®" ecosystem is a turnkey solution which, as a first or second fit, enables manufacturers to digitise their workshops independently."

Measure, control and store force, stroke and time variables.
EMG-CONTROL® offers a wide variety of standard measurement applications, either simple or combined, such as: Force · Force and distance · Force/time · Distance/time · Specific solutions can be offered according to requirements.

Measurements can be displayed in the form of bar graphs, smileys, numerical values, curves, and allow the user to view measurement history in real time in graph form. A sequence editor allows total control over the display and measurement process.

Simple and intuitive for the operator.
Anomalies are detected immediately if the required parameters are not met. The monitoring unit displays an "OK" or "NOK" message via an optical display, an audible signal, or by locking the press in position. This signal allows the operator to immediately isolate the non-compliant part.

Flexible and easy to configure for a wide variety of applications.
The plug-and-play sensor with TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) technology is self-calibrating and, when connected to the display, is automatically recognised and configured, eliminating the need for manual configuration.

The information is stored in the control unit and can be exported to a PC for analysis, statistics or archiving purposes. Data transfer is provided, depending on the version, via USB-A port (Host = USB key), USB-C (device = keyboard emulation), COM (ASCII or MODBUS RTU protocol), Ethernet (Modbus TCP or file generation on server)

Adaptable to all brands of presses and automated machines.
Paul Marks, General Manager of Berger Tools Ltd, the distributers in Britain, explains: "Although primarily designed for EMG manual and pneumatic press ranges, the EMG-CONTROL® solution is also available in the form of adaptation kits for all brands of manual and pneumatic presses, as well as for automated machines or semi-automated workstations, with the addition, as required, of modules and terminals to ensure optimum connectivity."

Greater productivity through permanent lubrication of the internal toothing.

High efficiency, better process performance and low heat development. These are just a few of the advantages of a servo pump.

The Baumüller servo pump solution has been in use for years in a number of applications such as presses and injection molding machines. By now, their use has become part of the standard equipment of machine manufacturers, partly due to rising energy costs. End customers are increasingly taking the total operating costs into account and are finding that the purchase price for a servo pump very often pays for itself within a year due to the significant reduction in energy consumption.

Baumüller has worked continuously, together with its customers, on enhancement and has now brought its latest servo pump version onto the market.

In the latest enhancement, the hydraulic pump is attached directly to the engine with a gear tooth system. This dispenses with the coupling and pump support as is the case with classic servo pump versions, which has the advantage of a shorter installation length and therefore a smaller machine installation area. Furthermore, direct attachment eliminates the need for mechanical parts. In this way, the machine manufacturer benefits from lower storage costs.

Another advantage lies in the intelligent use of hydraulic oil. The latest version, for example, features new connections for both the motor and the constant pump so that the leakage flow of the pump can be used for the permanent lubrication of the gear tooth system. This eliminates the need for grease lubrication of the internal toothing, which is required every 3,000 operating hours on average. The machine can operate without interruption. Baumüller is the sole supplier of this solution, which also results in significantly reduced service costs for machine manufacturers and machine operators.

The structural change also offers a further customer benefit. Since the holes for the connections are on both sides, the motor can be installed horizontally or vertically, depending on the application. This means that the motor position can be freely selected and adapted to the respective machine design.

The new features are available for Baumüller's DSD2 three-phase current synchronous motor series in sizes 71 and 100 and are very well suited for plastic and die casting machines. Size 132 will be available shortly.

In addition, the customer can also use the existing bores in the motor for his own sensors. For example, pressure sensors for monitoring the oil lubrication of the internal toothing can be easily attached. The installation of leakage sensors for early indication of possible leaks is also straightforward, enabling predictive maintenance. The measured values and data recorded by the sensors minimize uncontrolled breakdown times and the machine can proactively undergo service at a pre-defined point in time.

The servo pump of drive specialist Baumüller combines the advantages of hydraulic power transmission with the benefits of electric servo drive technology. The control of the drive and the low energy consumption of the components, especially in the partial load range, results in a highly energy-efficient and yet economical solution that machine builders and users in the plastics and die casting industries can implement in their machines as a decisive competitive advantage.

The drive package consists of a constant pump, a DSx servo motor, a b maXX 5000 converter and the servo pump software module integrated in the converter. The comprehensive range of dynamic motors and converters in different cooling versions from Baumüller offers the right drive solution for an optimal and energy-efficient process design according to the respective load profile of the application. Thanks to the integrated software module of the servo pump, Baumüller's solution can be used independently of the respective manufacturer’s machine control system.

Monitor, evaluate and document the XY characteristics of joining and press-fit processes!

The new Type 5847 maXYmos NC represents a significant improvement to the capabilities of the Kistler NC servo press modules. The maXYmos NC will monitor, evaluate and document the XY characteristics of joining and press-fit processes using the force and displacement data from the servo press module.

The new version extends the capability of the NC Servo Press system to monitor and control the shape of the measurement curves against a defined profile in real-time. A significantly greater degree of control in terms of position, velocity and force, is possible compared with equivalent hydraulic systems. As a result, optimum cycle times can be achieved with the highest degree of process repeatability.

The integrated sequence control module (Sequencer Mode) enables versatile mapping of even the most complex joining processes easily and effectively without the need for expensive, external PLC programming. Programs are set up using the intuitive user interface on the colour touch screen. . In total, up to 128 programs can be stored, with the option of defining each one with an independent sequence of up to 255 elements. As a result, even highly complex processes can be defined simply and effectively. Such processes are evaluated by means of the curve patterns of  force and displacement, in relation to one another, which are then rated as good (OK) or bad (NOK). Each program can contain up to ten Evaluation Objects, each with a range of evaluation options, ensuring that process deviations are reliably detected.

The flexible design concept of the maXYmos NC system allows easy integration into existing or new systems. The maXYmos NC comprises two components, the measuring and evaluation module (MEM) and the display module (DIM). These two components can be installed separately or as a single compact unit. Up to eight joining processes can be visualized on the same display module guaranteeing maximum operational flexibility, whilst saving space and contributing towards an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

The (MEM) can operate entirely autonomously and may be operated without the DIM with setup and process visualization being carried out via the graphical user interface (GUI), which can be transferred onto a PC accessible by Virtual Network Computing (VNC) via the Ethernet interface or USB.

The MEM incorporates the most common fieldbus interfaces such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET. EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT which can be selected via a menu on the touch screen display enabling users to respond to changing requirements in relation to sensor or fieldbus types. In addition, the standardization of MEM development keeps costs for spare part handling to a minimum.

The maXYmos NC monitoring and control capability ensures that faulty parts are detected and removed early in the production process optimizing productivity, enhancing quality assurance and reducing production costs.

Press force sensors have switchable ranges!

Seven press force sensors from Kistler Instruments provide full coverage from 0.1 to 700 kN. The ability to switch the measuring range, when using suitable amplifiers, bolsters this advantage to meet the needs of production and measuring stations handling a greater variety of parts.

The piezoelectric sensor element provides a compact design with a low sensor weight, offering significantly smaller dimensions and mass than equivalent strain gauge devices. However, the wide-range measuring chain also offers critical advantages in laboratory applications, where frequent changes of sensor are common practice and the extremely high degree of overload protection eliminates the need for involved protective measures when using the lowest measuring ranges.

The range of seven force sensors has been developed specifically for use in production environments, especially for quality assurance monitoring in assembly applications. The piezoelectric sensors cover measuring ranges from 10kN to 700kN and are supplied as standard with 1%, 10% and 100% measuring range calibrations. In most applications, the sensors may be fitted directly into presses, punches and rams but, where this is not possible, a variety of flanges and adapters are available.

New Servo Press Module for clean room applications uses wireless

Suitability for use in cleanrooms to ISO standard and wireless telemetry of the force signal are just two of the outstanding attributes of the new Kistler Type 2157B NCFT electromechanical, servo press module. These new features make the new module particularly suitable for use in processes with small test and joining forces, such as sensitive press-fit operations and test routines in the medical and precision product sectors.

The compact mechanism, integral piezoelectric force monitoring in the ram and two predefined measuring ranges from 0.05 kN to 1.5 kN make the new modules ideal for use in assembly and joining processes monitored by force-vs-displacement. Advantages include easy selection of the ideal measuring range, a high overload factor and modest user spare parts inventory. Complex drive profiles with a maximum speed of 400 mm/s and displacement repeatability of 0.002 mm can be achieved.

The new NC servo press module provides ultra-high precision measurement of extremely small forces directly on the tool holder under actual process conditions, without the need to mount a sensor on the ram. This eliminates any possibility of the measurement signal being impaired by dynamic characteristics of masses or moving cables.

Many medical consumables are required to be manufactured under cleanroom conditions. The NC joining module Type 2157B meets the stringent, cleanroom production environment requirements defined by ISO 14644-1 Class 8 as standard and Class 7 conditions can be met with minor adaptation.
The new NCFT augments the range of NC servo press systems from Kistler. Five series now provide seamless coverage of measuring ranges from 0.05 to 600 kN. They are available not only as a system subassembly but also as complete manual workstations for development, prototyping or small-batch production.
