Coriolis meters for Europe

Litre Meter s distributing a range of coriolis flowmeters from US-based manufacturer Tricor that is backed by the engineering expertise of designers involved in many of the original patents for coriolis technology.

Tricor’s engineers have been continually developing coriolis flow instrumentation technology since its inception. The meters are designed and engineered in the United States, manufactured, calibrated and tested at a state-of-the-art facility in Germany then distributed throughout Europe by Litre Meter.

Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss said: “Tricor may be a new name on the scene but Tricor engineers have been intimately involved with the development and evolution of coriolis flow instrumentation since the beginning.

“Our customers can be confident that, as well as the expertise and back-up of our own engineers, they will benefit from high performance coriolis technology supported by the very gurus who crafted the originals.”

Coriolis meters are used in a wide range of applications worldwide in the oil and gas, petrochemical, food and beverage and life sciences sectors. Litre Meter is now able to supply the full Tricor range of coriolis instruments to its customers.

The meters offer a measuring accuracy of between+/- 0.10 per cent and +/- 0.15 per cent, even in long term operation and across a temperature range from -100 to +204°C depending on the meter selected. The mass flow rates that can be measured range between 0-300 kg/hr and 0-65,000 kg/hr with density range up to 5,000 kg/m³. Tricor coriolis meters are rated up to 100, 200 and 345 bar. Versions will soon be available with sanitary 3A tri-clamp flanges.

Coriolis technology works by passing a fluid towards (and away from) a centre of rotation through vibrating tubes. The force of the fluid passing through the tubes causes twist which is proportional to the mass flow rate of the fluid passing through them. Sensors and coriolis mass flowmeter transmitters are used to measure the twist and generate a linear flow signal.

The Tricor product line complements the range of flowmeters built by Litre Meter itself. They offer a broad range of metering technologies suitable for virtually every liquid, gas or steam measurement application and has particular expertise in measuring low flow rates.

Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss added: “Litre Meter’s strength has traditionally been in flowmeters for particularly demanding situations, often with meters almost custom-designed and built for particular applications. Tricor coriolis technology gives our customers access to a wide range of accurate and robust meters which meet the needs of a vast range of industry applications.”

Flow appointment

Litre Meter has appointed Chris Ringer as applications engineer. Chris joins Litre Meter from Krohne and brings with him expertise in a range of flowmeter technologies including Coriolis flow meters. Prior to working with Krohne as its sales manager in Britain, Chris was flow products manager at Foxboro and before that he was a sales engineer at Hartmann and Braun.

At Litre Meter – part of the Tasi Group – Chris will be mainly responsible for strengthening the company’s customer focus by providing sales support for Litre Meter and products for offshore, sub-sea and general applications manufactured by other Tasi Group brands including TRICOR and KEM.

Commenting on his appointment Chris Ringer said: “I am pleased to be a member of the team here at Litre Meter. My role as applications engineer will enable me to utilise experience I have gained elsewhere in Coriolis engineering applications to effectively promote Litre Meter’s and KEM’s flow meter technology in the UK and provide the best possible level of service to our customers.”

Chris will also liaise closely with sales staff to ensure the accurate quoting of delivery lead times to ensure that customer deadlines are met.

Commenting on the new appointment, Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss said: “I am delighted to welcome Chris to Litre Meter. He brings with him valuable experience which will make him a great asset to our team.

“Making appointments like this during the current economic climate demonstrates our continued commitment to providing the best possible service to both new and existing customers.”

A keen motorcyclist, Chris lives in Northampton with his wife Julie and their children Helen and Susan.

Flowmeter range augmented

Litre Meter has expanded its range of metering options with ZHM gear flowmeters from KEM.

KEM meters are employed in a wide range of applications worldwide in the automotive, oil and gas, process engineering, food and beverage and energy sectors. Litre Meter is now able to supply the full KEM range of instruments to its British customers.

The meters feature automated lubrication for reduced maintenance. KEM gear meters offer a linearity of +/- 0.5 per cent of the actual value across a temperature range from -20 to +180°C depending on the meter selected. Flow rates that can be measured range between 0.005 and 100 litres/min and typical viscosity ranges from 0.5 to 25,000 mm2/s. The meters are pressure rated up to a maximum of 1,000 bar.

Gear flow meters are positive displacement meters that work as the substance being measured rotates two gears. The fluid is forced through closed measuring chambers between the gears and the housing. The rotational speed of the gears is proportional to the instantaneous flow rate. Sensors precisely detect the rotational speed through the body of the meter without contact with the fluid.

The KEM product line complements the range of flowmeters built by Litre Meter in its own premises in Buckingham. The company offers a broad range of metering technologies suitable for virtually every liquid, gas or steam measurement application and has particular expertise in measuring low flow rates.

Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss said: “Litre Meter’s strength has traditionally been in flowmeters for particularly demanding situations, often with meters almost custom-designed and built for particular applications. KEM ZHM gear technology gives our customers access to a wide range of accurate and robust meters which meet the needs of a many different industry applications.”
